How hard is it to put one in?

No idea without looking at the bottom of the laptop. However, if I’m buying new, I’d prefer it have what I want out of the box.

And usually you will pay for it. If you know how to do simple things like upgrading the RAM/wireless card/HD yourself you can get much better deals.

And usually you will pay for it. If you know how to do simple things like upgrading the RAM/wireless card/HD yourself you can get much better deals.

Yes, obviously. But RAM and other hardware upgrades are easy. Hard drive upgrades are much more work because of what is involved in installing the operating system and drivers. I’ve done it before. It’s not worth my time for the small amount of savings.

I put a ssd to replace a spinner, in my desktop, I’m not much of a tech wiz, I followed directions from a utube video, and it worked out well, Same with memory upgrade on my desktop.

I would never try a laptop on my own, I’m afraid I would never get it back in one piece

We just purchased a similar laptop from Dell with a 256 ssd and a 7th gen i5 chip for $429, so there are choices with a ssd already included.

We just purchased a similar laptop from Dell with a 256 ssd and a 7th gen i5 chip for $429, so there are choices with a ssd already included.

I was scared of doing a laptop mod for many years, but it’s really quite simple (assuming you have one of those laptops where the HD is easily removable.).

If you have to take the whole thing apart just to get at the HD, I just let the Dell tech do that for me.

I believe samsung SSDs come with the software to clone your existing drive (assuming it’s not larger than the SSD). You would also need an external usb enclosure to do the clone.
