What a system. You earn 100 points per $1 spent but to use them, 200 points = $1. Points usually post within 48 hrs but may take up to 60 days for recycling.
Points may be redeemed for dollars off an Easy Rewards™ member’s purchase amount at checkout. Points may only be redeemed for whole dollar amounts, and 200 points provide $1 to redeem toward the qualifying purchases. Members may select the number of Easy Rewards™ points (in increments of $1 in value) to redeem and apply to their qualifying purchase. Members may redeem Easy Rewards™ points in Staples® U.S. stores by scanning their digital Staples Easy Rewards™ card located in the Staples® app or by providing their phone number at checkout. Members can redeem Easy Rewards™ points via staples.com® or the Staples® app by logging in to their account with their credentials. For full program details, please visit staples.com/easy for the Easy Rewards™ Terms and Conditions.

Am I understanding this correctly?
Old system: 20 ink @$2 ea + $5 tech = $45/month
New system: 30 ink @400 pts ea + 1000 tech =13K pts or $65/month

Uggh, I had a rewards certificate I forgot to print, and now that is gone from my rewards. Also a Plus member, and I am at 400 pts per 20 carts per month.

Contact support. They often re-issue the Rewards.

This is a mess. They sent me an email yesterday saying that my rewards number is being used by another account and that I should sign up again. The website showed no activity. Today I checked in the connect app to see if my tech recycling reward was still there. After going through a few changeover screens and clicking around a lot, I finally found my reward.
If I recall, when they forced us to the connect app, I had to sign up again. My guess is that that created a second account.
I don’t recycle ink, but I wonder if you all have a similar situation. Maybe your second account gets the better recycle deal and has your old statuses. Just a thought.
-
I logged into today and was pleased to see I still had the $5 Rewards that expires 2/29 from tech recycling in Dec. I also got 1000 pts that says “Welcome Gift 2/6/24” under Points History!
I recycled an old cable a few days ago (before this new launch) so I wonder if I’m getting the 1000 pts for that as well. I guess I have so many I can recycle another one in a couple weeks if I don’t see it. I think they said the recycling pts should reflect much quicker than before??
PS. A relative told me they logged in and did not see the 1000 “Welcome Gift 2/6/24” but they also don’t have any leftover rewards either. Not sure if everyone is supposed to get the Welcome Gift…
-
If your Staples account username is NOT your email address, go to the website and change it first. Then you will be able to log into the Staples app with that email address.
Just got the rewards from January recycling.
-
It is a total mess. I’m going to our local store and get the friendly manager to help me sort it out.
I used to have two accounts, one personal and one business, each with different usernames and email addresses. I haven’t used the business one in several years.
I just got this email, which is on the personal account I use for Staples which matches my Staples Connect app. It does have a username for login rather than an email.
Our new loyalty program is launching this week, and we can’t wait to share it with you.
But first, we need to let you know that the Rewards number(s) above is associated with another existing Staples.com® account and will be removed, as only one Rewards number will be allowed on each Staples.com® account.
So, once the new program launches, you’ll need to sign-up. It’s easy and FREE to join! Look for more details coming soon.
Staples has messed this up bigtime!

Did you sign up again? I was worried about doing so because it might assign a new rewards number.
I think you may be right about signing into the app and getting a duplicate account. I received the same message. I may have forgotten that I use a different email for my Staples Rewards and used my everyday email for signing up for the app. The odd thing is all my purchase history and recycling receipts show up under my rewards email, but the rewards certificates do not.
I am curious about the age of the account determining the amount of carts you can recycle. I had multiple accounts at one time and still have a rewards card and number that is older than the one I currently use. Doesn’t seem like there is a way to find out if that account is still active without going through support though.
-
Guys…DO NOT USE THE STAPLES APP!!! That way you will never have an issue with them saying you have duplicate accounts…simply tell them your “rewards #” when you get to the register. They can log you in at the register with either your phone # or your rewards #.
Also, this actually looks like a great new program for all of us that pay for the PLUS membership. Its a no-brainer. We all get to recycle ink and get the same rewards as before (points now but still equal in value) and don’t need to buy ink every 6 months and the points never expire. THIS IS A GAMECHANGER!!!

Try having the store scan the card. It should have the e-mail you used to sign up.

I didn’t sign up again like the email they sent me suggested (same text posted above), but I wondered afterwards if going through the new screens on the Connect app might have done something.
I think I’ll need to try and contact support to see if they can merge my accounts, if that’s what the problem is.
-
So in my case, my username was NOT my email address. When I log into the account today, it gave me the option to “Join for free”. When I do, first, they wanted me to fill out my name as it did not move over. At a point, it offered me to ‘log in with email’ but I didn’t select that option. In any case, once I selected “Join for free” it said my email address was already in use.
I think this is related.
-
The App must be one of the problems. I never signed up for it and all my accounts are fine. Has anyone tried cancelling the App?
-
I didn’t buy ink nor recycle in January or February because of the changes. My ink recycling offer now is 10 a month at 100 points. I wonder if previous purchase of ink does still count for those that are getting the 400/per offer.
No way I’m going to recycle them for 50 cents. I have $30 in rewards to blow then I guess I’m done with staples.
-
My recycling offer is 10 cartridges a month for 50 cents each. I think I will stick to recycling only at Office Depot going forward, unless the amount increases. 50 cents a cartridge is not worth my time, especially since I bought each cartridge for 25 cents from eBay. After I spend my banked rewards I won’t have much of a reason to step into a Staples store anymore.

My 6-month ink purchase is not supposed to expire until next month, but I only qualify for 100x10 now.

$5/month for tech junk is still useful.
-
@rsuaver - Update - so I had two accounts. One with the email, and one with the username only. When I tried to login with the email address I had to reset the password. Then I got a prompt to select which account to reset (email or username). Once I got in with the email one, I saw my prior issued reward cert.
And got 100 points per ink, max 10 a month. That’s 50c instead of $2. F’ them…

I got the $5 Reward for Jan’s tech recycling, expires 3/31. I should be able to combine that with the one that expires 2/29. I still have the 1000 pts for “Welcome Gift 2/6/24” so I’m wondering if I get stuff worth $15, I can ‘convert’ the 1000 pts at the register and use the $10 in Rewards too.
If someone could report on their experience converting the pts at the register, I’d appreciate it. (also wondering if it must be $5+ for 1000 or will they let you convert for $4.99…)
-
@briarycliffs I think it’s based on time & money. I have “base” accounts that haven’t purchased or recycled ink since the minimum purchase went from $30 to $50. They received 400 points & 15 carts/month. The accounts are 10+ years old and “spent” a lot of money on FAR software, paper, etc. back in the day.

Should be open to everyone, as advertised here: https://www.staples.com/stores/recycling
You do have to activate the offer in your account.

I just chatted. According to the recording I listened to while on Hold:
You can use the website or the App.
The minimum spend to recycle ink is gone.
The Elite, Premier & Regular statuses are gone.
-
Just recycled a tech item, and the 1000 points were credited in 5 minutes.

Online, you can apply only $4 of points for the $4.99 purchase. Don’t know about in-store, but my guess is the same.

Thanks! I forgot the Rewards can be used online! I guess because I only do tech recycling and those Rewards are in-store only. Love that you can do 600 pts for $3 off or whatever. The pt system is so much more flexible than trying to figure out how to maximize in $5/10 increments for me.

Good to know! I did my tech item recycle a couple days before the change, and haven’t gotten pts yet. I’m going to recycle another old cable to see if it’ll trigger the 1000 pts…
-
@pakle if you recycled tech on the old program you’ll get the old $5 reward. That’s it for Feb. You won’t get 1000 points if you recycle another item. I called and asked.

Thanks! I guess I won’t see that $5 reward until 2nd Thurs of March if it follows the old system. Probably better to have waited until after the change to get 1000 pts & faster credit and more flexibility I guess.

@c3 FYI, I recycled 2x in FEB on the same account and received a 10 off 30 Q both times, good for that day.

I just recycled tech (a single AA battery I got FAR at Office Depot) today and no $10 off $30 printed, but I did get a 15% off your in-store purchase coupon, which expires 12/31/24.

I recycled my old cable and got 1000 pts after a few minutes like everyone else. However I also recycled a cable a couple days before the change so it’ll be interesting to see if I also get the $5 reward on the 2nd Thurs of March.
My account actually has the offer to earn 400 pts up to 50 cartridges per month. I haven’t recycled any for over 10 yrs but probably won’t start now.

Wow!!! There is a discussion on SD that those limits may change from month to month.
-
In case someone can’t find their rewards from past months, I finally found mine here:
https://www.staples.com/grs/rewards/sr/rewardscouponsI did not search through this thread so maybe someone else posted it too.

That’s interesting since a U.S. CSR told me that the range is 5-40 carts/month.

@c3 Here’s my post from the Ink thread.
@my4mainecoons said in Ink Rewards affected by Staples Program changes? Don’t get cheated, obtained a good outcome, see post:I just chatted. I recycled before Feb. 7 and those 20 will be credited as per the old program. My monthly recycle limit went up to 30 but since I recycled for Feb. under the old program the 30 doesn’t start until next month.
CSR said that the offers were “fluid”, based on spending and that there aren’t any target dates or spend amounts.
me: if I can recycle 30 this month how do I know if it’s the same the next month?
CSR: check your account each month before you recycle
me: if my offer has changed, i.e. all of a sudden I can only receive credit for recycling 20, what can I do to get back up to 30?
CSR: there’s no way to know. There’s no spending target. The statuses (Elite, Premier, Base) are gone.
me: why does it say that points will post in 24-48 hrs but in the Ink Recycling T&C it says that it can take up to 60 days?
CSR: 60 days is if you do it online. If you do it in-store it’s a “one & done” transaction like any other in-store purchase and will credit within 24-48 hrs.

Answering my own question. Still no sales tax on amount paid for with Rewards.
Almost everything is priced $xx.99. I spent way too much time hunting for a cheap filler. The cheapest item I found was 46¢. I gave up. Paid 98¢ + 2¢ sales tax on cc. So instead of using all my Rewards I have $1 left.
-
I don’t see a way to add a “missing” receipt to my rewards account. does spending even make a difference with the new program?
-
@597404 you earn points for each $ spent. Can’t you use the missing points form?
-
Can’t find that form, may not be included in my level of membership ;>]
