Plus tax. No roaming.
Tello operates on the Sprint network.
I have been with them since the demise of Ringplus.
Very satisfied with coverage and customer service is outstanding.
The data is throttled down after you reach the plan max (not a hard stop) and the reduced speed is still adequate for Google voice calling and web surfing.

As far as I know, Google Voice uses data only for setting up outgoing calls. The actual phone calls go through the voice channel.

Not sure if there is a difference but I use Google Hangouts and that uses data (wifi or cell). I was using the term GV interchangeably with Hangouts but that may be inaccurate.

Google Voice now has an option to use VOIP data for the call itself. It used to be a beta, but I think it is now fully available for both Android and iOS.
For iOS, in the Voice app, SETTINGS >> MAKE & RECEIVE CALLS option, you have a choice of “Prefer Wi-Fi and Mobile Data” or “Use Carrier Only”. The first option to “Prefer Wi-Fi and Mobile Data” is VOIP routing.

1GB Data plan has been $14 all year. I’m still looking for a decent and cheap Sprint compatible new phone.

Interesting… it was only on November 3, 2017 that they announced dropping the price for the 1 GB plan from $29/month to $22/month.

I just started using the GV/Hangout Dialer apps to make VOIP calls on an Android phone 2 weeks ago. The phone is on WiFi and has no cellular plan/service. I never had to specify VOIP/WiFi vs. carrier, yet making/receiving calls has worked without any problems. I’m not even able to find any settings that would allow me to change how calls are made even if I wanted. Maybe VOIP is the default/only option on Android now and it offers to switch to your carrier if there’s no WiFi. Even though online tutorials specify the exact path in the settings menu like you did for iOS… it is just not there (I have the latest software versions).

Are you using Hangouts or Google Voice. Hangouts has always been VOIP data only.

The GV app with the blue receiver logo… but it has the exact same (lack) of options as the Hangouts and Hangouts Dialer apps. They need to combine all 3 of them into one customizable app… but as long as I can continue to make free VOIP calls I’m not going to worry about it.

I guess it is still technically a beta — those Google beta programs go on for a long time… If you google it you can find the signup page and one added those options will start to appear in the app. I looked yesterday and it seems as if you can still join the beta.

Thanks… I thought the beta testing was over because I can use WiFi calling/VOIP without joining the beta testing (i.e., it is publically available to anyone who uses the current app). I’m not going to join the beta to do what I can already do… with my luck it would only make things glitchy and all I would gain is access to settings on the app that allows me to do what I’m already doing without said access. I’m team “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it” on this one.
