I’m always reluctant to download anything to my computer. Who else here has installed Epic Launcher and would vouch for it? The game sound like fun.

  • @dionaea I haven’t installed it as of yet as I have the recent freebies on Steam, but have installed Steam, Origin, Twitch, and uPlay clients without issue. Epic is a digital game store that does Fortnite and other exclusive releases. I wouldn’t think that with Fortnite as popular as it is that they would use malicious software in their client. When unsure, I install unknown programs on my old laptop and run a virus check before installing it on my gaming pc.

  • @dionaea I used the Epic launcher to play Subnautica when it was also offered for free (terrific game btw). The Epic launcher seems much more streamlined that Steam or Origin, quick to launch and navigate. I really enjoyed its simplicity, and only ran it when I wanted to play the game (I do think I had to change the option for it to remain off unless I launched a game that needed it, it launched on Startup by default I believe). No issues so far.

Thanks, Midori. One thing that bothers me is that they claim the game is from the creators of Monkey Island and Maniac Mansion. I’m old enough to have played those when they were DOS games, and those were definitely from Lucas Arts. In fact, I had the boxed set, including Loom. Is “Epic Games” a part of Lucas Arts or did they buy Lucas Arts’ game operation?

  • @dionaea I too had the original Lucas games…on 3.5" diskettes. Lucas was bought by Disney who closed the development wing of Lucas Arts and only maintained LA for licensing only. Disney then licensed Lucas game development to its own Disney Interactive and EA. Fyi- If you like older Lucas games, add Day of the Tentacle Remastered to your Steam wish list and get it on sale…it’s great.
