for me, Costco has this locked up. $397 for 4 Michelin X with 80k warranty + 5 year road warranty.
priced same size tires and got Kumho tires, with 50K warranty for $340 at tire rack. I still have to pay for shipping and installation. firestone tires were $460 to install at their low end. so no go there.
i don’t understand how anyone can compete with Costco?!

sounds good, I’m curious where to buy light truck tires that don’t look the belong on a cheap beater car. It’s impossible to find All Terrain 220/75/r14, I got cheap walmart $50 tires on truck now but they suck, they whine BAD.

The top two tires on this page match your size. Here’s the tire calculator comparison

Compete with Costco prices? No. Get a Price Match at a local Dealership to them is the way to go.
-
What’s the benefit of getting it done at the local dealer?
-
America’s Tire competes really well with Costco during their sale events - e.g. labor day, memorial day. Next one might be near black Friday - don’t know. I prefer America’s tire - seems really easy to get rotation every 6K miles. Don’t have direct experience with Costco rotation policies but I heard that it is first come first served - that can be crazy. America’s tire will do it with appointments.
-
The wait at costco is terrible, they won’t honor warranties unless you do regular tire rotations there, they are limited in what other services they do. I get decent enough prices and better service at just tires and they match or discount frequently.

In my experience, the Acura dealer is cheaper than Costco at the times I need tires.
That said, warranty isn’t going to be as good. The Acura dealer doesn’t do anything with tire warranties. I feel much better about Costco handling the warranty when needed.
Costco’s wait times are a PITA, though.

any smart shopper knows better than to shop at warehouse clubs

@honkinggoose , a down vote doesn’t make it untrue

Any smart shopper knows to compare prices and figure out which things are good values at warehouse clubs. Not to mention knowing how to shop at warehouse clubs for free/cheap, and how to calculate ROI on any membership fees paid.
-
I got sick of the ridiculous wait times and impossible appointments at Costco and Sam’s. Not to mention the fact that Sam’s Club requires an active membership to maintain road hazard coverage.
Tire Rack with installation at Firestone cost a measly few dollars extra all-in for much better service.

@doveroftke
the founder of best buy had a motto "stack it high and watch it fly"
you see so many loyal warehouse club members falling for the setup.
impulse by and over buy.
certainly, there are things that might be a good deal, but only if you actually needed it, most members won’t comparison shop, granted, there are likely a few that benefit from their membership, but i’m sure it’s noly a few
it’s just like wal-mart does, they pile up something cheap at the front of the store, and people stop looking at price tags.
-
some things you can only get there at good price, like large container of pickled pig feet. large container of cajun boiled peanuts

What’s the benefit of getting it done at the local dealer?
Let’s see: Dealerships will usually PM Costco website prices. Not having to spend the money on gas to drive the usually longer distance to Costco. Can make an appointment to either sit and wait for an hour or a get a in-house rental. If by a rare chance I get a flat, I can drop off the tire and come back later when they will place it back onto my vehicle at no additional cost to doing the repair on the tire.
-
i’ve never had a dealer step up and say they will match costco prices. i’ll look into it.

I don’t think most will either, they are higher than warehouse clubs, naturally because they can’t buy in bulk like they can.

i don’t think so either but PruHTp said MOST will. while i did not agree, i did the polite thing and said i’ll take a look. i might just call the dealer nearby for kicks, because i like first hand evidence.

About as much as your saying it makes it true.

I go to Costco 20-30 minutes before the tire center opens, so I’m the first or the second person in line. Another 30 minutes later, my car is done.
-
I did decide to have the local Firestone match Costco price and they agreed. Since I get my oil change there, now they can balance and rotate too. This will make my life a lot easier. Getting tires balanced and rotated at Costco took some doing.
-
I ordered 4 General Altimax RT43 tires (highly recommended by Consumer Reports) from Discount Tire Direct for $266 shipped and a $75 Visa card. Had all 4 installed and balanced for $60. Considering I did not have to pay any sales taxes, no local dealer could come anywhere near this price.
