Would this be a good general purpose set for a new homeowner? I am thinking it would be a good gift if so…
Thinking of the furniture and workout equipment etc that uses sockets. I know from personal experience that it is a pain to use the mfr provided tools…

@gremln007 In my opinion, this wouldn’t be a very practical general purpose set. I had something similar to this (link) that was amazing for me going through college and when I moved into my own house. Even used it to build the arch for my wedding. While this is a very nice socket set, sockets are rarely needed for your average Joe homeowner. Some channel locks can get the same job done, usually. I’ve also had a really good experience with a Black & Decker set like this (link). Just my two cents, hope it helps
