Need help: Adding Google Play to Amazon Fire - Resolved
-
This is my 3rd Fire tablet. I’ve used APK to make the Fire an Android device and installed Google Play so I can use Chrome, etc. on the previous 2 Fires.
This is the first time I’ve had the latest version of the tablet with newest OS.
I need help figuring out which version of Google Play Services to download from APK.The instructions say: Download the file labeled Google Play Services (64-bit ARM, nodpi, Android 9.0+). Note: Look for the first file not labeled beta. You’ll need to click on the Variants text below the file and search for the version we mentioned above.
The article I’m following was written Feb. 21, 2023. There are versions of Google Play Services after that date that don’t say Beta. I scrolled back to a Feb. 2 release then All Variants but I’m not sure if the 2nd one on the list is the correct variant. It says arm64-v-8a + armeabi-v7a for Android 9.0+ nodpi.
Is this the correct one?
The Fire is 12th generation running Fire OS 8.3.1.4.Thanks.

This ia an older tutorial, but it is specific to your device, Lilliputin, Dec 2022 (“How to install Google Play on 12th-gen Amazon Fire tablets (2022 models)”).
It advises using the latest realease. All see the comments section at the bottom for additional troubleshooting.

@fivetalents Thanks very much. I had to try 3 different versions of the Google Play Store to get one that would install. The author of the article noted that this Fire isn’t as easy to adapt as previous generations so it wasn’t just me. This is my 3rd Fire for ~ $20.
$59.99 - 30% for using 1 Amex Reward point - $25 Amazon gc for trade in of previous Fire. I went through TCB for 8% cashback. Now I can ship the trade in.

That doesn’t surprise me… the evil corporations are removing more and more consumer choice and autonomy in electronic devices (e.g., phasing out removable batteries, memory card lots, and upgradable components Ike mother boards and hard drives). They want to force you to buy their products and services and to have to upgrade frequently to have a device that is more than barely functional

@fivetalents So I followed the instructions to download the 4 APK programs. Used the tablet for a day+ when I discovered that some of the Google programs wouldn’t work with what I’d installed. Needed a different Google Play Services. So I unistalled the 4 APK programs and the things I’d downloaded from Google Play. It took me a while but just completed installing Google Play using the Fire Tool Box. Presently installing apps (Chrome, Drive, etc.) I hope they work.

@my4mainecoons Amazon and Apple are just ridiculous and disgusting with their proprietary software and hardware.

@fivetalents Some apps are working and others e.g. Google Translate, do not work. They give an error message to install Google Play Services. I tried re-installing Translate but it still didn’t work. But I learned my lesson. Since Gmail, Chrome, YouTube & the Play Store are working instead of starting over (again) I downloaded Microsoft Translate instead. It works.
It’s probably true for all touch screens; It’s much easier to switch between English and Ukrainian keyboards on the Fire. I don’t know how I would do it on my laptop without a physical Cyrillic keyboard.

You can install Bluestacks on your windows PC and use it to install and run any Android app through the Play store or via apk.

I saw this article “how to install Google Play on Fire 12th generation tablets running Fire OS 8”. The article mentions that you need to download the file labeled Google Play Services (64-bit ARM, nodpi, Android 9.0+). You will need to click on the Variants text below the file and find the version mentioned above. The article also includes a link to download the Google Play Services APK file for the 9th and 11th generation Fire HD 10 and 10th generation Fire HD 8. However, this should work for your Fire2 tablet as well. For further assistance, you may visit wallyhome to explore their resources or contact their support team directly.
Hope this helps!
