RE: Kmart 100%+ back in SYWR points on $10+ Smart Sense and other house brands (namely, Little Ones, Champion Breed, Cat & Co., Grey Wolf, Image Essentials, be bath escapes, or Essential Home products) Now through Sat., 2/3/18. MAX 50,000 points per member.
I stand corrected. Based on what you guys are saying, I guess regular points can be used for anything. For some reason I thought they could not be used for “hot buys” and other clearanced stuff, but I could very well be confusing regular points with surprise points.
I still think its a brilliant program, making people think they are getting stuff for free when really, overall, they are just getting stuff for 50% off and also limiting people’s ability to do a return. -

Everyone says SHC will soon go belly up, but as I marvel at the brilliance of the SYW and points program they have in place, I just can’t believe a company with such a brilliant marketing program can do anything except succeed.
This promotion fools your brain into thinking you are getting things for free and also eliminates your right to make a return.
No one is getting anything for free. They are offering 100% back in points on items they select to be part of the promotion. But of course, you have to pay $50 to buy the stuff that they select to be part of the promotion. Then you get the points and those points also can be used only on stuff they select. The points can be used on anything already not discounted. At a store where discounting everything is part of their marketing strategy, those exclusions are pretty limiting.
On top of that, the promotion eliminates your right to return items. When you return the first batch of items you bought and paid for with cash, you can get your money back - less any points you later used that you earned from the sale. So if you used all your points on other stuff, you can return items you paid for but they won’t give you any money back. If you try to return items you paid for with points, you just get points back that you must use to buy something else at Sears. So they pretty much limit you to exchanges and eliminate returns!!
Brilliant marketing!! -

RE: Prepaying utilities?
This will work if you have discipline. However, people like me will see a huge credit on the water/electricity bill and then decide I am rich enough to flush the toilet (and use the electricity-consuming fan) more often than I do when I am feeling frugal. If you maintain your typical money-saving habits, then I say go for it. But if you are like me, you will just end up wasting the credit on your bill by flushing the toilet each and every time you go potty (and wasting money using the bathroom fan/light when you want to see what you are doing or make it stink, as well).

RE: Land Deed Transfer in Family
Depends on how smart you are and whether your intentions are pure.
Do you know what abstratct, torrens, and recording means? If not, get a lawyer.
Are you trying to take advantage of old senile parents with dementia? (no offense, but it happens often). Do you have a brother or sister who will think you are swindling them out of a portion of their inheritance? If yes, get a lawyer involved. If you are smart enough to do it right and there is no possibility of any legal issues, then maybe, just maybe, you can handle it yourself.

RE: Manufactured spending
What bothers me most about MS is how rude Walmart clerks can be. Sometimes I am in a hurry, I need to go right from the store where I bought the VGCs directly to Walmart and did not have time to rip the card packs open and remove the VGCs. I mean I can do it while I am driving but that is more dangerous than texting while driving. Often the clerks get angry if I am ripping open the VGC packs in the money center when I am buying money orders. It seriously takes just 1 or two more seconds to rip the package open before I use the card. I always clean up after myself. Why are they so mad, what gives!!
