Duracell Coppertop vs Optimum batteries

I know many of us buy your batteries 100% free after rewards from Office Depot. A while back in the weekly Office Depot thread c3 posted a question that I was wondering about too, so I called Duracell Customer Service. He asked Coppertop stamps an expiration date on their batteries, but Optimum does not, so when do Optimum batteries expire? I called the rep this morning and he said since the Optimum line is a new battery they have not yet completed their storage research, so how long they can be stored at full power is still unknown. I said to him Coppertops last 10 years, so do you think Optimum would last the same., He said probably but without proof they cannot put that on the batteries.

I also asked him what is the difference between the Coppertop line and the Optimum line. He said the Optimum batteries have more power, so they last longer. He said when used in a flashlight the bulb actually burns brighter, too, I asked if the Optimum line is available in all sizes and he said right now it is only available in the AA and AAA sizes.

In the end though, I know most of us are just buying them to meet the $10 spend requirement each month, so the ones that are closest to $10 after 20% off coupon I;m sure are the ones that will be more appealing to most.

Thanks. My goal is to spend as little as possible to recycle 10 cartridges, so Optimum usually has that advantage.

  • Buy some Eneloops, you caveman! 😉

100% reward is the primary reason, not the batteries. I use primarily Eneloops myself.
