BUZZ CLUB (Big Lots) Improvements, get $5 reward with every 3 purchases, plus other perks

  • Global Moderator

  • I like the idea of they pay you $1.67 for any day that you purchase anything. It will encourage me to buy a little bit, a lot of times.
My store had many clearance items today, those count as well.

@LORENW they’ve sent me three $5 off $15 Q’s in the last month. Have no problem going 3x, getting 33% off each time, then a $5 on top of that.

I don’t live close enough to run in for $1-2 items so doubt I’d buy stuff just to hit the reward, but will certainly make use of any good deals they send me. Plus BF is coming up and sometimes they have decent sales.

Yes we all need to work it out to our best benefit. I have a Big Lots quite close, so I can pop in a couple times a week and grab something cheap to qualify as a visit.

  • Man, this new policy won’t be lasting very long. People can buy a $1 item 6 days a week (e.g. a 2L bottle of soda), get back $10, make $4. And that’s not abusing the rules at all.
What’s the over/under on how soon restrictions will be forthcoming?

  • 500 Club

@mistercheap There are going to be a lot of people with birthdays in November & December.

  • You can only earn one $5 bonus per week so it’s unlikely that people are going to go crazy enough to shut it down. It appears though that you could shop at multiple stores each day and stack up the qualifying purchases to apply to each reward period. So maybe you could visit two stores each day for a week and have rewards for the next month.

  • 500 Club

@lowpricewanted I don’t understand “have rewards for next month”?
Rewards expire 17 days after they’re earned. How can you bank them?

Any thing over 3 shopping trips in a week, will bank for future weeks. They issue one reward per week

Example if you go 9 times in the first week, you get one $5 reward for each of the next 3 weeks.

Of course my cats may have a Big Lots Buzz card, so maybe your pet can have one as well…

  • Global Moderator

@LORENW they would only get a CATalina coupon then…

    BWHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • 500 Club

@lorenw Good idea. Since we won’t have Rite Aid any longer the cats will have to find a new hobby.

Last year we found single packs of chicken Nong Shim for 99¢ ea. That’s about what I pay for them on Amazon. I’ve been avoiding Big Lots because they carry Belly Flops and I can eat a bag of those in 2 days.

  • Can I combine this somehow with my 20% off day shopping trips? I only shop there on 20% off days.

  • It will count for a trip with any purchase, even using coupons, etc

When you get a $5 reward, it applies before the 20% off coupon, so it will actually be a $4 reward, much the same way Kohls Cash works

  • 500 Club

@lorenw so is the best use to make purchases on a 20% off day and redeem on a “normal” day?

  • The end value of the reward is the same either way
The best value would be if a $5 off $15 coupon would show up, and then use the reward, just be mindful the reward expires about 2 weeks after you get it, so I will use mine asap, so I don’t forget

  • 500 Club

@lorenw I just received a $5/$15 coupon for signing up. So I guess I make a trip today, tomorrow and Monday. Hopefully receive the $5 Reward mid-week and spend it with the $5/$15. Pay $5 for $15 worth of stuff? Plus the oop to earn the $5 Reward makes it a 50% discount.

I don’t need anything at Big Lots and doesn’t sound like there’s a way to cash out so I might not last long in this game.

  • Global Moderator

@my4mainecoons Look for the Halloween clearance area, s/b 50-75% off

Some of the grocery items at BL at pretty good deals at 33% off, especially some of the gourmet type items, chips/nuts, and they actually sell the old style WOODEN Q-Tips for $1 for 300 before discounts in HBA.

One item I buy there which is ABSOLUTELY delicious and low in calories is the RED PEPPER APPETIZER DIP (16oz jar is $3 pre coupon). the Spicy version is our favorite (also a mild but not as good IMO). It’s found by the pickles/relishes on the grocery aisle if your store has it. Well worth $2 a jar, stuff is delicious. Last time I got a $5 off $15 I bought 5 jars, paid $10 oop.

  • 500 Club

@mistercheap The cheapest thing I found on quick trip was 33¢ for Nissin cup of soup. I got Nong Shim for 90¢ since its something I use.

Sure there’s stuff to buy but its nothing I’d be buying normally so they’re winning by getting me to spend money I wouldn’t otherwise be spending. Even the Nong Shim was real money. Usually I order it from Amazon. I get Amazon gc for taste testing so I think of anything I get on Amazon as “free”.

Does the BL sales week run Sunday to Saturday? If I make more than 3 trips this week will it count towards next week’s Reward? I’d like to use 2 $5 Rewards and $5/$15 coupon on one purchase. Will I be able to do that?

  • Global Moderator

@my4mainecoons I don’t know the answers to many of your questions unfortunately. the program is brand new with these rewards, so not sure what exact ‘sales week’ they use, since the circulars dates seem to start on Saturday in my area.

As far as spending money, I don’t mind spending money if it is stuff I really like and use and can’t get any cheaper or even find elsewhere. But that’s up to you naturally.

  • 500 Club

@mistercheap Sure I’ll spend money if its something I like and use but there’s very little that I like and use that I can’t get without paying real money-- including gas. There’s nothing I want at Staples either but at least I can use Rewards to buy ink to resell. Not sure that there’s anything worth buying to resell at BL but will have to spend more time exploring.

  • The last time I shopped at Big Lots was a Friends and Family 20% off event. That is when I stock up in the food section. I remember Pringles and Poptarts were 80 cents after the discounts. Cheez-Its were $1.60 compared to $2.88 at Walmart. Any packaging with expired promotions or contests are often deeply discounted. Always look for the clearance section and clearance endcaps. I remember one time buying huge pool covers at 90% off after the season was over. I used them as tarps at a fraction of the cost of real tarps at Lowes.

  • 500 Club

@lowpricewanted Check out Cheez Its at Rite Aid this week. Halloween packs dropped to 75% off today-- $2.50 per carton of 20 pks.

Check out locally owned lumber yards. Mine lets me have lumber tarps. They’re about 20’ long and 10’ wide. Not as strong as tarps that you buy but they’re waterproof, sturdy and free.

Thanks! I will check out both.

@mistercheap I picked up info in the store today. You can earn max of $50 Reward within a 7 day period (Sun.-Sat.) . While weekly ad effective dates are Saturday to Saturday I’m guessing Reward week is Sunday - Sat.

I don’t eat breakfast cereal but my Dad likes Corn Flakes. He’s gonna get a bunch for Christmas. Raisin Bran was $0.25. 0_1510014910453_WIN_20171106_192731.JPG

@myisland I signed up for card this past weekend, giving a birth date in November. Today I received a 15% off coupon birthday card. 🙂

  • 500 Club

Since this is new program, thought I’d post my experience so far.

Sunday & Monday of this past week I made 3 purchases in 2 different stores.
The purchases were not in my purchase history until Thursday and still didn’t show anything towards the “purchase 3” reward.
Thursday night I made 4th purchase.
Friday I made a purchase in 2 different stores.
Friday PM I now have a “pending” $5 Reward. Says it will be emailed in 7-14 days.
Will post when the email appears and what happens with the 2nd Reward.

    Reward #1: $1.89 oop
    Reward #2: 88¢ oop

  • @my4mainecoons I guess birthday deals rate lower than friends and family. I’ll wait.

  • On both of our accounts, it said pending reward, now it shows 1 reward in offers, but it is a $5 off $15 coupon
Has anyone else received an $5 actual reward, or is this going to be just a $5 off $15 coupon as the earned reward

  • Global Moderator

@LORENW click the op link, clearly shows a $5 reward outright, not a $5/15 Coupon. Perhaps you will still get the $5 rewards and the $5/15 is just an extra Q in your account.

I am NOT very good at waiting, but I will need to.

I just figured someone would have received one by now

    Thanks

  • 500 Club

@lorenw not until BF at the earliest.
Acct showed I’d earned 3 Rewards. Now it only shows 2. I’m hoping that the 3rd is on deck to be issued.
This is a very slow program.

  • 500 Club

@lorenw I’m getting cranky. I’ve done 15 transactions. The first set of 3 was completed the week of Nov. 11. They say it will take 7-14 days to receive email. Nothing.
Not only that but I had 4 pending, went down to 3 which I thought meant one would be coming.
I made another 3 transactions which brought the pending back up to 4.
Last week that 4 went down to 3 again.

  • 500 Club

@lorenw Chatted online. CSR couldn’t explain why no emailed Rewards, gave me one but told me to call Rewards help. Called & chatted. They didn’t know why rewards weren’t posting. Escalating. You might want to call. I’ve had 2 Pending Rewards disappear into cyberspace w/o the Reward being issued. Expect another will disappear this week too.

  • I now have two REWARDS, they are both $5 off $15 purchase coupons,

Nothing else, it says in the email, I have a Big Reward

  • 500 Club

@lorenw I received a $5/$15 today as well. That’s not what the program says we’ll get, I think that’s coincidental.

  • Also it clearly states you can stack a reward and a % off coupon and it explains the reward would come off first, per the rules…

HOWEVER, a birthday coupon today says can NOT be combined, with other coupons, the $5 off $15 so called reward is just a coupon

The Buzz Rewards is like last weeks fish, sorta smelly

my 2 rewards 5/15 coupons say reward1 and reward2 on them

  • 500 Club

@lorenw on phone w/ Corp. right now.

  • 500 Club

@lorenw Just informed that its $5/$15 COUPON not a $5/$5. Asked CSR to show me where it says that on website. He can’t find it. I said its false advertising and not sure where to go next, BBB vs. state’s AG. On hold now for Claims & Litigation.
