Frys Electronics - Going out of business

I have such fond memories of FAR software. It was Fry’s that introduced me to FW. I was looking for Norton AV on eBay. I saw a bunch of listings where people were selling boxes without the UPC. So I Googled for NAV without UPC and it brought me to a FW listing for NAV FAR at Frys.

yes, got a couple of things there too, mainly software. Deal hunting was fun in those days, so many MM deals that got you large ticket items too, like laptops and various tech items. While we get excited now about a $6mm at Rite Aid, that’s nothing compared to making like $150 on software rebates plus a free laptop to boot!

The shelves have been empty for a long, long time, way before the Covid19 days. I live in the Silicon Valley and used to go over there for lunch.

@c3 I’m surprised they’ve lasted this long. I recall photos of empty shelves years ago. They needed more shelf space than other stores because of their oversized packaging. Which came first, huge retail spaces needing larger than needed packaging to fill it or “unique” packaging needing more shelf space? Either way it was a poor marketing plan. Rebaters probably supported their bottom line for years.

Reminds me of the best Credit Card rebate ever. Egghead had their own Visa card, and they converted to another bank, stored 130 bonus points converted to $1300.00 to spend at Egghead. Now those were the days. Just received a Fry’s email over the weekend. Good thing I didn’t make a purchase.
