Heads-up: SiriusXM Music Royalty Fee will increase 2/15
Just a heads-up if anyone is about to sign-up / renew SiriusXM. Looks like their “Music Royalty Fee” will increase to 19.1% starting 2/15/18.

    To Our Valued Customers:
Effective as of February 15, 2018, the U.S. Music Royalty Fee will increase from 13.9% to 19.1% of the price of all audio packages which include music channels. Your fee may vary depending on the package and plan term you have chosen and the number of subscriptions on your account.

The U.S. Music Royalty Fee applies to most audio packages* and offsets the royalties payable by SiriusXM to composers, publishers, recording artists, musicians and record labels that hold copyrights to musical works and recordings. The increase is a result of the recent decision by the Copyright Royalty Board of the Library of Congress.

  • Last time I checked SiriusXM had the worst sound quality compared to the competition.

It’s over-compressed for sure…but FM commercials suck. Bluetooth streaming is also compressed and doesn’t sound spectacular either. Aux cable can sound better than BT, but requires you to use your phone to control the music. Don’t get me wrong, I have Spotify Premium also, and love it. But that uses data, which isn’t free, and requires me to pick up my phone and fumble through menus while I’m driving if I want to change the style of music. With Sirius, I just push a preset on my dash without taking my eyes off the road.

Every cost has value to someone.

If you fumble through menus while you are driving you are a danger to everyone. Pull over to the side of the road!

Yeah, that was my point. The Sirius built-in to my car radio is my preferred music source and one of the reasons is that it’s less dangerous to operate.
