AVEN App Ending Free $5 Weekly Starbucks/Dunkin Gift Cards in 6 weeks per APP Pop Up Notice

  • Global Moderator

    Hello,

I went to redeem for my latest gift card in the AVEN app (I signed up when they started offering Dunkin cards) received a pop up that ‘all good things must come to an end’ and the free $5 GC program will end in six weeks (not sure on exact date, but guessing around end of August)

I am assuming the Starbucks program will also end but I can’t confirm so need verification from others who have the Starbucks option.

Says they will have sweepstakes for gift cards instead (don’t need a sweepstakes personally).

After the program ends, I’d like to get out of this app and have they stop monitoring my personal information, I hope there is a way to do that.

Yes similar for Starbucks. I got 22 weeks. I saw some people say they got 52 weeks and others got 2. Not sure how they decided that.

    After my 22 weeks, I will have gotten 46 x $5, so $230. I sell them for 70% the value so $161. It’s something.

If you go into your profile, Account Information, 3 dots, there is a button to delete your account.

Does anyone know how to cancel the app and end them having access to your information?

My free gift card period ended, and I don’t have a use for AVEN without the GC perk.

And please don’t answer ‘uninstall the app’, I want to revoke their ability to have info.

In app, click user icon, Account information, 3 dots, delete account

  • Mister C, there’s no nicer way to say this, but you learned the wrong lesson; you shouldn’t have given them your info in the first place. Plaid access to your checking account, Social Security numbers; address and homeownership information letting random companies the ability to open up HELOC by giving them enough credit information; none of that should have happened in the first place.

Deleting the account on Aven is putting a lot of faith in a company that has shown to act in bad faith, your data probably doesn’t get deleted.

    At minimum:

    • If you can’t revoke Plaid access to your checking account on your bank’s website, then you’ll have to open up a Plaid account (Plaid Portal) using the information you used to set up your Aven account (if you used a burner phone or secondary email that doesn’t match your bank account, this is going to be more difficult, you may have to setup multiple Plaid accounts) More information on the Doctor of Credit thread.
    • SSN you already know you shouldn’t have given out.
    • credit should already be frozen, freeze it if it isn’t
    • if your local county has a title lock/warning signup, not all counties do, then I suggest signing up.

  • Also, there’s already a class action lawsuit against Aven:

Yes, that was based around some antics with their credit card which I was very careful never to click on any offers for inside their app. I didn’t sign up for that card and there’s no info on my credit reports. I do get notified of ‘hard pulls’. And I signed up for AVEN in early May '25, after that Class Action was annouced. So I think I’m ok there.

I don’t think I did give plaid permission, but I’ll double check through my bank and have their permissions revoked if they are on there.

Thanks for the heads up on all this, I’ll be sure to protect myself to the greatest degree possible.

@ctujackbauer update: I was able to log in to my bank info and revoke the Plaid to Aven permission from there. I also have PLAID permission for Venmo, but that I’m keeping.

Aven Financial (via Plaid) Revoked 09/01/25

    Thanks again.
