Unlike Rite Aid, who, when they send out a 30% off regular price coupon, they mean it…
CVS goes the cheap/bait and switch route.
Here’s what happened to me. Got a 30% off Q in email on reg price. this week they have spend $20 get $10ECB on Flonase and there’s a $10 off man Q on the 120 ct spray.
OK, so I go to CVS expecting to pay about $4 oop ac’s/ecb’s and get back a $6 savingstar offer for a slight MM (plus I needed to roll some expiring ECB’s).
Item is priced regular, at about $32, hand in 30% coupon, works fine, takes off close to $10. Then I hand in my $10/1 and $7 man Q and ECB and my total is $11.xx. Basically you are penalized for any manu coupon and ECB use!! basically added back about $6 to my total. voided the sale and said forget it.
Won’t ever fool with their useless 30% off coupons again.

Yes, all their % off coupons work that way. I tried to reason with them 2 times at 2 different store but all said that it was the register set up (that way) so there’s nothing they could do about it. Now i just ignore their stupid % off coupons.

Right, it is not the store’s fault, it is programmed that way. But I do think it is a fraudulent offer to say 30% off regular priced items but have every form of payment other than cash/credit be penalized. as I noted Rite Aid has this also from time to time, but you get the 30% off, even if you use coupons/Plenti/Bonus Cash to pay.

Yeah, they definitely elevate the deals to require a lot of work…
I generally use their percent-off coupons when something yields new ECBs (e.g., a $5 item that provides $2 in ECBs). I then try to use the dollar-off coupons with my ECB certificates for something on sale.

@mistercheap I agree it’s very deceptive! It’s kind of sad that a lot of people probably don’t even know they were ripe off because most people don’t pay attention to their receipts.

Update 2/19:
Was reading on the CVS board on SD that apparently some card specific kiosk type coupons are now acting the same way. Where coupon use/ECB use is penalized against their value.

Years ago CVS had maybe the most liberal coupon policies of any retailer, as well generous ExtraCare reward offers, including allowing “point rolling”. I remember $20 free groceries offers, perpetual free Soy Joy bars, “make money” deals, and so on. Then some deal-hounds made themselves duplicate accounts to really reap it in. Ha! Soy Joy Bars, do they even make them any more? Haven’t seen them around (or mentioned) in a long time.

@mistercheap Yes, they’re made in Japan. But not sold in the US anymore (CVS gave too many away I guess).

None of which are members here who brag about having multiple accounts at Sears/Kmart, RiteAid, etc…@CouponClippen not sure if that’s directed at me directly.
As for multiple accounts, actually when the Extra Care program was launched, they encouraged EACH PERSON to have their own card, not one shared by one household. So it wasn’t unusual to have 4 cards in one family (mom/dad/two older teenage-college kids). then they changed it but people weren’t going to be bothered w/consolidating cards. Also in the ‘old days’ Extra Buck print outs were not tied to a specific card you could interchange them as with the many $3/15, $4/20 coupons that circulated on deal boards as you could find. Some of these Q’s even stacked! (ie a $5/25 and and a $4/20 on the same order). CVS tightened up most if not all those loop holes so that isn’t even an issue any longer.
Also most ECB promos are limit 1 these days, there was NO limit on many deals in the early days (about 11-12 years ago now).
As for Rite Aid, sort of the same thing with each person having an account. So having access to 3 cards isn’t unusual.
I have one Sears account, that’s it.

I knew this a long time ago when I first started using coupons. After the first use of their coupon of 30 percent, I realized that this was a hoax and I didn’t need to touch their coupons at all anymore. Fortunately, I didn’t spend a lot of money on it, so I’m glad, but my friend believed them until the very end and lost more than 200 bucks because of them. I told him many times that it was a hoax, but this jerk didn’t believe me. My grandfather used to say that until a person learns from his stupidity, he will not understand anything. Fortunately, now I have found a place where the coupons are real. I take them here DontPayFull.com and several times they have already helped me buy a discounted product. I advise you to be careful and use only verified coupons!

If you pay cash and just use the 30% off, it’s not a hoax. But combining it was any other offers? a hoax.
