  • Finally! A 15% off site-wide coupon on a weekend! 😁

    Actually, TWO 15% off site-wide coupons on a weekend! 😁 😁

First, over to Target to get 5% off some eBay GC’s with my REDcard…
Now, how to maximize the savings…? 🛒 🤔

  • Spent hours filling my cart with thoughtful gifts, making sure that I was ready to check out a good half hour before the end of the sale this time, in case checkout was glitchy again… 🤨

Entered the 15% off coupon code, noticed that the discount was only $75 (oops! forgot that it’s not $100 until tomorrow!) — scrambled to whittle the cart down to $500 from $666.67 to take advantage of the full discount — checked the clock…15 minutes left… ⏰

Raced to open up my email from Target with my eBay GC code and enter it…noticed that the 15% off code had disappeared, so I had to re-enter that…down to 5 minutes… ⏰

Noticed that the GC hadn’t applied…re-entered the 13-digit number…this time, red error message: “This code can’t be used with the payment option you’ve selected.” Huh?!! 😕

    Re-entered the GC…same red error message…2 minutes left… ⏰

No time to figure out what was wrong with my method of payment — there certainly were no restricted items in my cart — nor to re-enter the 13-digit GC, so I blindly clicked the button to submit the purchase…spin, spin…$75 discount disappeared out of the payment summary…spin, spin…red error message appeared in the lower left corner of the cart announcing that the code had expired…spin, spin…no way to cancel the process at this point… 🙈 …spin, spin…congratulations, your purchase is complete, for the full price of $500 + tax… 😱🙀😱🙉

Refilled the shopping cart with cell phones for tomorrow’s sale, so as not to lose them to early shoppers; no longer under a time crunch, I did a trial run through checkout, but wasn’t able to re-enter the GC until I logged into PayPal. 🤨

The GC was automatically checked and applied toward the new items in my shopping cart; however, not wanting to accidentally complete the purchase early, without a discount, I unchecked it, and it disappeared. 🙀

How irritating! 🤨 The GC should stay visible at least until I log out of PayPal…

I plan on calling eBay customer service tomorrow to request a $75 credit (rather than be a jerk and cancel the entire purchase)…anyone have experience with doing something like that? 🤔

The same thing happened to me a few months ago. I submitted an order about 10 minutes before the expiration of a discount code that was correctly applied… but the order stuck in processing mode until the coupon expired, then they confirmed that my order had been processed at full price. I immediately called eBay (in less than 1 minute) and they refused to apply the discount to my order retroactively or to apply the amount to my account as a credit.

They said the only thing I could do was pay full price or cancel the orders (5 different sellers, in one cart). I said that I only placed those orders because of the coupon and would not pay full price since their site screwed up and I did nothing wrong… nor did I feel it fair that I had to waste additional time figuring out how to cancel 5 separate orders. They offered to cancel the orders for me and they included a note, at my request, that I dictated explaining that I only ordered based on an eBay coupon that appeared at checkout but not on my receipt. All cancellations were completed within 10 minutes of the order, but only 3 sellers acknowledged the cancellation. The other two ignored the cancellation and shipped the items, and there was no way for me to return them (I think they were drop shipped).

The whole thing still leaves a bad taste in my mouth… I called within seconds of the coupon expiration… eBay should have credited me in some way. It also made me realize that drop shippers probably shouldn’t order items until the cancellation windows closes if there’s no way to ship returns back.

Good luck. If you don’t get an accommodating CSR, try asking for a manager or calling back and speaking to someone else.

  • Just got off a 50+ minute phone call with Mia at eBay, @fivetalents…after lots of confirming, verifying, and back-and-forth with her manager, she was able to secure a $75 coupon for a future purchase for me, valid for 30 days. 😲

She asked me if she could help me with anything else, so I shared the story about my botched cell phone purchase attempt earlier in the week (where PayPal kept logging me out of eBay each time I selected my method of payment) and then asked her if her computer showed a calendar of upcoming promotional coupons that would include cell phones, so that I would know when to re-try my purchase…

She tried to steer me toward the page where eBay posts its Hot Deals, but I told her that I had already selected the exact phones that I wanted, and only wanted to see if there would be a promotional coupon that would apply…

She either didn’t quite understand that all I was looking for was a sneak peak into future sales promotions, or she truly didn’t have this super secret information available to her. 🤫

Here’s to hoping that PRESENTSGALORE shows up in a day or two… 🤞🏼
