Three AMEX Blue rewards card...merge them?

  • Hi! My wife and I have somehow over the years accumulated 3 AMEX Blue accounts. I think they started off as different rewards cards, then got switched over to the Blue one. Anyway, is it possible to consolidate them into one account with a combined credit limit and balance? If so, are there ramifications to our credit score? I’m thinking if they could combine the credit limits, then it wouldn’t be a negative hit, right? Or is it more valuable to have three separate accounts?

  • Leave them separate so you can take advantage of Amex Offers multiple times.

  • No, don’t consolidate them for the reason @doveroftke said. In fact, for the cards that are primary, get you or your spouse added as AUs (authorized users) so that you get up to 3 more cards. Create online accts at Amex for each of the new cards and when a great offer comes along, you have greater odds of receiving it multiple times.

  • Thank you for the advice!!!

Is there a certain combined credit limit among several Am Ex cards in which you are more likely for an Am Ex account review? At one time I heard it was a combined credit line of over 25K.
