Jury’s out. Larabars have become my favorite and they;re based on dates with different crushed nuts (either peanuts, almonds, pecans, or cashews). Compared to Larabars, these were very hard and not chewy. I didn’t mind the firmness but they felt kind of like chewing straw, as if the oats were raw, and never softened as I chewed. I liked that they weren’t too sweet (which Larabars can be despite no added sugar on account of the dates).
I liked the flavor combinations on paper but they all fell flat for me upon tasting… nothing to write home about but not horrendous either. The one I expected to like the most, the chocolate, tasted the worst and had a strange aftertaste. The jelly one was just OK, but I’m not a big fan of jelly to begin with. If I had to buy another, I’d probably only pay for the coconut, which actually tasted very decent (just not enough to be craveable), and the shredded coconut reduced the density/hardness of the mouth feel.
The size of the bars were comparable to other brands in this class and large enough to tide you over until your next meal (each bar ranging from 210 to 230 calories).
