Lunar New Year 2020 - The Year of The Rat
The Lunar New Year festival, is an annual celebration in most Asian countries, including China and Vietnam. This is one of the biggest holidays for these cultures associated with a range of traditions and customs, and praying for good things for the coming year. This year the Lunar New Year is celebrated January 25, 2020 - February 8, 2020 and marks the beginning of the new moon according to the traditional Chinese calendar.
Each year is represented by a zodiac animal on the lunar-solar calendar. 2020 is the Year of the Rat, the first in a dozen years. The Rat is the first of the 12-year cycle of animals which appear in the Chinese zodiac related to the Chinese calendar. There are also five types of Rats, named after the Chinese elements. In order, they are: Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water.
Red envelopes with gifts of money are also a common Lunar New Year Tradition.
In celebration of the Lunar New Year, we are gifting a “Year of the Rat” coin to visitors of any F&M Bank branch office.
