Looking good @kateivan! Maybe we should keep our options open for awhile and see if enough people try both sites to get a consensus. Do you know if this site will create pages like FatWallet?
-
Thanks for checking it out, @AuntLinda! Not sure about pagination, but I’ll snoop around and see what I can find.

Yes, you can go to “Settings” and check the box labeled “Paginate topics and posts instead of using infinite scroll” and choose the number of posts per page. I tried that and then went to the Welcome FW refugees thread which has a lot of activity. That made a pagination area appear in the bar across the top of the page, showing the numbers and single arrows to page up and down and double arrows to zoom to the first or last post. The view seems wonky to me though. Maybe I need new glasses.

It worked! This might be the deciding factor for some people. This site works and feels very much like FragileDeal but with the pagination option it’s a little more similar to FatWallet…sort of like the best of both worlds in my opinion. I just set my “posts per page” to 3 so I could see how the pagination works and it looks great.

Yay, glad making that settings change worked for you. I tried “3” as well but for some reason it’s still wonky. I would think that the single arrows would take me up or down by 3’s, and it doesn’t. And then it only takes me up so far before it stops. I think that has to do with the post number at the end of the URL. I’ll fiddle about with it some more but for now will take a break from the testing aspect and post some content.

I finally discovered the page counter “hiding” at the bottom of the Welcome FW Refugees thread.
Now I “get it” and pagination works exactly as it should.
And I am laughing at myself. I do need new glasses.

BTW, on this site you can also choose the sort order of posts - oldest to newest or newest to oldest. Another neat feature if you’re so inclined. I always prefer newest posts at the top rather than at the bottom.
-
Thanks for all the upvotes, @AuntLinda! I’ve followed suit with all your posts so you are now at reputation level 3.

Hello BeeBuzz folks. I’d never heard of this site before today, but looking at what it offers, it seems to apply to an internal discussion we are having about where GPT threads should go. In your opinion, is BeeBuzzPoints a GPT site, or a contest and sweepstakes site?
By GPT, I mean sites were you get paid to (view video, take surveys, click links to partner sites, test products, play games, do tasks, etc. You can then cash out points for rewards like gift cards, merchandise, magazine subscriptions, airline miles, charity donations etc.
The title and the tags on this thread mention a contest, but the link indicates no contest with a defined start and end date, just ongoing activities that sound like a GPT site. How would you guys define BeeBuzzPoints and why? TIA.

I am here now and from what I have viewed and read this site looks like a good home for us…

I’d be happy to try to walk you through it.
What format is your picture in, meaning the 3 character file extension at the end/after the period (e.g. jpg, png)?
The general procedure is: To change your avatar, click your current avatar, then click on those 3 little vertical dots all the way on the right inside the blue circle. Click edit, then change picture. Then select the upload picture box. To the right of that, select the box with the plus sign and upward pointing arrow to actually browse your device for the pic you want to upload. Click on choose file. Click the blue upload button. Click save your changes all the way at the bottom of the screen.
As usual, It does matter what format your image is in and, depending on the source, how you saved it. Try the steps above and tell me exactly wnat happened. TY.

We are looking for a new home for activities heretofore conducted on the BeeBuzzPoints thread at FatWallet’s Contests and Sweepstakes forum. We have been exploring options like Facebook groups and such, and PhW is a contender. So we started a thread in the complementary subcategory here on PhW to try to get a sense for usability. The ability to paginate threads has given PhW an edge.
As to what we do … BeeBuzzPoints is our local newspaper’s reader loyalty program. Our newspaper participates in Triton Media’s sweepstakes program (as do a number of radio and TV stations across the nation). Each participating media outlet has its own member site. Each member must reside in his/her respective media market. Members can earn points for performing tasks like responding to questions where the answers are printed in that day’s newspaper (e.g., what is the headline of the 2nd story on the left side of the “local news” page). Those points are then redeemable for entries into contest drawings. These are contests/sweepstakes because of the element of chance. You do not simply redeem X number of points for an item assigned a point value of X. Rather, you throw your NNN amount of points in the hat with everyone else who wants to win that specific item and hope that one of your entries is drawn. Like electronic raffle tickets. Sometimes the sweeps are national (across all the participating media markets) where you can enter a drawing for, say, an Amazon Tap. Sometimes they are local, where you could enter to win a pair of passes to a movie screening at a local theater). Current contests may be found at http://buzzpoints.sacbee.com/asp2/contests.aspx?status=current where the start and end dates are defined for each.
I’ve never heard of GPT, but you’ve piqued my interest. I do participate in Microsoft Rewards which seems like the bunny slopes compared to what I saw when quickly Googling “GPT”.

Thanks for such a thorough reply! It sounds like a unique hybrid between contests/sweepstakes and GPT, but the GPT crowd would not be happy about their points not having a known value (or no value if they lost). So, it sounds like this thread is in the right forum. If we do get a GPT forum, you are in for a world of goodies my friend. It’s definetly a big genre and some sites are much better than others, but that’s a story for another day.
I hope that your BeeBuzz group feels at home here and decides to stay. Remember that we had very little notice to get this up an running and to open it to the members (we’re not even a week old). There is a lot of tweeking, coding, and programming to do to get it just the way we’ve been used to and/or want it (it took FW many years to get their site the way it is). That’s why your feedback is critical. Please feel free to post feature requests or technical problems in the PhatWallet Support forum and we’ll work with you to address your concerns as best as we can, and search any available coding or programming options to work on down the line if it is not immediately possible.
Again, welcome and enjoy.

Thanks for the comment, which I see was downvoted?? (Not by me, though I imagine it could be because “agreed” might not meet the community guidelines.) Am I correct in assuming that userids are displayed for upvotes, but not for downvotes to help avoid conflict? Or am I missing something? And if this is answered in the FAQ or elsewhere, please don’t hesitate to tell me to go look there.

If someone wants to down vote me, that’s fine - can’t expect everyone to agree with everything. When it’s in response to a compliment, just ignore it and move on! I can’t speak into the reasoning behind only seeing upvotes but your logic on it seems like a good reason - @dangeRuss would need to answer definitively however.

taurus742Welcome @taurus742. You should be able to update your list as needed. At the very end of your post you’ll see three (3) vertical dots on the right-hand side. If you click on those dots and select “Edit”, a dialogue box will appear (it will contain your original post) and you’ll be able to make any necessary changes/updates. When you’re done, use the blue “Submit” button on the right to save your changes. Using a new site will be an adjustment and I think we’ll all feel disoriented for awhile. I definitely do.
