I don’t know that it’s really considered software - but, anyone here using a VPN that they would recommend?

I’m using PIA vpn service and it has worked well for last 3 years.
I have nothing to compare it with since it has been the only VPN I have ever used.
So, take it with a grain of salt.

Thanks @marcopolomle !

FYI
Went to install “Cute PDF Writer” and Malwarebytes found a PUP in it.

@redmed pup in cute or malware?
-
seems the PUP is because of detection of the Bundle
https://forums.malwarebytes.com/topic/183399-best-malware-free-pdf-printer/?do=findComment&comment=1041096
If you uncheck, they say it doesn’t get installed.

I’m a Google girl
I have these on my desktop, Chromebox, Chromebook, and android phone.
Keep - can share notes (perfect for grocery list), can “tack” notes to the top, choose reminder dates.
Backup and Sync - Can sync items you choose (Drive, Desktop, Photo’s, etc)
Contacts - Will stay synced between pc and phone
Drive - On my pc, this would be “My Documents” folder. Inside of that I have folders for each of my boys that I share with them. You have no idea how many times this has saved us over the years! Copies of their driver’s license, copies of our auto insurance, vaccination records, medical records.
Music Manager - uploads “My Music” folder so that I have access anytime to my music (I have around 20,000 songs!) need to set to wifi only on phones so data doesn’t get used.
Families - especially nice for sharing movies, books, and apps across family members.Other ones:
TeamViewer - perfect for working on my 86-yr old mom computer from home so that I don’t have to drive to her house to get her “cc:” field back in her Outlook, lol. Or my lazy butt to go turn off DS’s pc he left on in another part of the house. I can also work on college son’s pc when he requests help (rare, but still nice to have). Our high school distributes MacBook’s to all the students… except I’m mean and force my DS to use his Chromebook from home. For one class that needed to use a program, he used TeamViewer on his pc at home to run the program via his Chromebook at school.
CCleaner
Malwarebytes

You go G Girl !
I’m learning so much from you guys
I never knew all these existed.

I was lucky enough to get a lifetime license one time they ran a promotion in the past. Even if you have to get it with annual renewal fee, it’s money well spent in my opinion. It has often detected potential threats that my anti-virus did not.

I use Nitro PDF (FAR from Frys back in the day) in FF & IE.I use it to convert Word documents to PDF.
Also, along with PDF X-Change you can do many neat things to a PDF and “print” with CutePDF.

I wonder if anyone is using Sandboxie.
It’s a great little program with many uses.
It basically creates a virtual machine on the fly.

Wonder why didn’t you use it.
I use it every day. In fact I am currently running six instances of Chrome in separate Sandboxes. That way Google and others cannot track me what I am doing in the other Sandboxes!
Also, sometimes when I encounter a webpage which holds your browser hostage unless you click on what they want you to click on in order to install a malware on your computer, I just right click on that Sandbox and click “empty” and all that shit goes away.
You can also block access to your sensitive files.

i always used it as a software tester

Used X-Change PDF viewer in the past
Switched to FoxIt PDF
Went back to X-Change PDF viewer:Used to fill in information in Menards rebate forms B4 printing using X-Change PDF Viewer. Then switched to FoxIt PDF and all of a sudden I could not figure out why I could not fill in the rebate forms like I used to. I tried changing the settings in FoxIt but couldn’t get it to work like B4. Recently, after reading this string, I remembered that I switched from X-Change PDF viewer to FoxIt PDF. I changed back to X-Change PDF viewer and can now fill in the rebate forms and print them out. With FoxIt PDF I had to print the forms. Then fill in each form by hand. A tedious, repetitive, frustrating thing when I knew there was a better way. Great Thread!

i don’t really have a “favorite.” i like many of the options that allow me to boot to a non-windows OS, permanently. i’m probably partial to debian at this point, but i don’t have a problem with the redhat variants
-
Microsoft image composite editor
Google PicasaYes I know both have been retired and no longer supported. But they’re both better than their replacement.
-
All time best find ever: Ninite
It allows you to install most of the programs discussed here with one single executable. You select the products you want, click “download”, and get a tiny executable which then downloads and installs your selections automatically in the background. Plus you get the basic clean versions of all the programs, not the packaged bloatware. It cuts system build and configuration times dramatically.

Xming for X server windows work. Although I’ve been meaning to try out VcXsrv.
-
Microsoft Office Picture Manager. It was deprecated in 2010 but is still available in various ways. Getting a free copy of Sharepoint Designer 2010 is probably the easiest way and X out everything except Picture Manager to just install it.
Not as versatile as Irfanview or Gimp, but for my limited needs, it’s fast and easy and I prefer the interface. YMMV.

LastPass plugins and Android app. Now free synch of passwords across all platforms. Form filler works great!

Glasswire, very good firewall program that shows graphically where your traffic is going.
