@tuskers Can you figure out the difference between the one you linked and this one?
There’s something black in the middle of the one you linked. Guess I’d have to see them side by side to understand.

To me, it looks like the black area is caused by the reflection off of the stainless steel filter as opposed to a glass or plastic filter. I’d choose stainless steel over anything else for durability and to avoid toxins leeching out of heated plastic.

@fivetalents both say they have stainless filters. I was thinking that the black was the plunger and maybe the plunger on the one OP posted is narrower than the one I linked? Maybe the one I linked is more like a coffee press, kwim?
-
@my4mainecoons Hmmm, I was looking at the pics of the empty press on Amazon and it didn’t look like stainless steel and the description was vague. Maybe the narrower width of the filter is a factor then?
ETA: I don’t think the plunger is the issue since you see the shadow in the Amazon pics even when the press is empty and/or the lid is off.

The OP is stainless steel, the second one is plastic.
I own both from a previous clearance @ JCPenney.
This looks like the original:

The press may be stainless, but the container that holds the tea is plastic. It is very possible that it is inaccurate description as well.
-
@dangeruss a clear plastic teapot? seriously? never seen such a thing

Not the teapot, the filter is plastic. The press that you press down on may be stainless I don’t remember.
-
@dangeruss I think you’re saying that the tea basket is plastic but the compression plate might be stainless?
So the OP’s basket and compression plate are stainless? As the owner of both do you use either of them?

I used them for a while, but frankly I don’t drink loose leaf tea anymore, so they haven’t been getting much use. These days I either just drink filtered water straight from the faucet, or microwave a cup of tea. If I got a good deal on some mighty leaf loose leaf I may start using them again.
The stainless basket is obviously higher quality.

@dangeruss thanks for “unselling” me. I don’t drink loose tea that often and have a collection of infusers. Usually just making one cup so mug + infuser is fine.

Bodum also has things like this for single cups:

@dangeruss thanks. That’s sort of my system now. I use this with covered mugs. When flipped over the covers sit flat and hold the basket. Mugs are porcelain and came with porcelain infuser baskets but the basket holes are too big so I use the nylon one. Sort of like this .
