Amazon prime day was pathetic
-
So what did everyone buy?
I got the Fire 8 HD and a $25 gc. Received $10 credit for installing the app and $5 for buying the gc.
-
I only bought one thing, v8 energy drink, and it wasn’t a prime day special. Disappointed in the pet products.
-
@briarycliffs I didn’t see any pet product deals. Maybe I didn’t look in the right place?
-
@my4mainecoons I didn’t see any good pet deals either, that’s why I was disappointed.
I was hoping for, but didn’t get: head lights for my car, canned cat food, a cheap digital camera, and a hummingbird feeder. I spent way too much money this week anyway, both my pool filter and washing machine broke on the same day. At least the washer part was reasonable, unlike the way overpriced but had to have pool filter.
-
@briarycliffs Are you looking for a particular type of hummingbird feeder? I’ve seen them at KM. Most of what is on my camels list is pet related stuff.

I was looking for a small single hand held hummingbird feeder. We have 5 that feed here, 2 feeders with multiple slots, but apparently only 1 bird can eat at each feeder at a time, even though they are 40 feet apart. I did pick up a feeder yesterday from drsfostersmith. They had a small suction cup feeder in the clearance section. We will see if that helps.
Drsfostersmith has a really good clearance event right now. I picked up 15 packs of suet cake for $4.50 yesterday. I have mixed emotions though. Since petco bought them, they seem to be eliminating the horse section and really reducing the amount of pond and fish stuff. I will take the clearance off their hands.

@briarycliffs I had no idea that Foster & Smith had B&M presence! I’d be there all the time! Suet cakes were my filler for online orders at KM until I realized I have too many suet cakes. I hadn’t realized that Petco owned them now. I used to think of them as high quality but price-y. Petco owning them changes my impression re: quality…

Well they do have a store in Wisconsin, but I’ve never been. I was talking about an online clearance event. They are getting rid of seems like half of their products.
Since petco bought drsfostersmith and petsmart bought chewy, and amazon bought out wag, the pet deals have been few and far between.

@briarycliffs I’ve actually done quite well at PetSmart in the past 6 months. I bought $5/1 dry cat food ProPlan coupons and used them with the $10 PetSmart crt, each purchase generating another CRT. Ended up paying $1- $4 for 6 lb bags. Did 2-4 back to back transactions in stores until I’d used all 20 q’s. More recently did price match to dot.com using email targeted store coupons and current edition of the $5/1 ProPlan.Last year stockpiled Precious Cat & Oko Cat. Petco had a store q for $10/1 Precious cat and the 10 lb box was $10.99. I bought all there was in my area and had friends & family pick it up near them. Can’t recall the deal for Okocat but I was getting it at supermarket. When it runs out I’ll go back to using horse pellets.

I haven’t tried this one yet, but I have done all the ** off your first autoship, including chewy, I can think of. Right now, jet.com has 30% on wellness (certain varieties) and you can use the coupon 3 times. My diabetic 140 pound newfie eats the reduced fat kind only and this kind is finally included in their monthly pet sale. The others eat mostly Diamond, and it’s cheapest at the local feed store.
The small bags that people get free or cheap wouldn’t make it through one feeding for my herd. Plus the very long drive to make it to a chain pet store would kill the deal. Luckily, the fedex guy and the ups gal haven’t complained about lugging up heavy boxes and lifting them over the gate.

I bought a few boxes of Okocat with those coupons. Do the horse pellets work well for you? We buy them for the horse stalls a few times a year, but never thought about using them for the cats.
-
@briarycliffs Horse pellets work fine as cat litter.
Pellet stove pellets work fine as well.
The difference between e.g. Feline Pine pellets and wood stove pellets (and maybe horse stall pellets) is that pellet stove pellets are made from hard woods vs. Feline Pine is from soft wood (pine). In theory there’s an obscure reason one should use hard vs. soft wood for each animal but the reason was so unlikely to be an issue that I’ve since forgotten what it was. However, I switched from pellet stove pellets to horse stall pellets for some reason which I can’t recall. Maybe it was concern about additives. IDK.
Two of my cats came from a breeder who uses pellet stove pellets exclusively. Breeder buys the pellets as you would for heating-- by the pallet or ton and that’s certainly a lot cheaper than clay.I’d like to switch over completely from clay but I have a senior citizen who only uses clay. Once he’s gone and I’ll work on converting over. I really like being able to flush the solids & compost the sawdust clumps.
Distance definitey kills the small bag freebie deals for you. I use them to extend our regular food, putting a little of the freebie in with the regular. We go through one of the small bags a week but with freebie mixed in the bag will last 2 wks.

@my4mainecoons Question for all you Prime pro’s… I signed up for the free trial so I could get the Fire on Prime Day. I’m downloading some videos. Do I have to watch the videos before my 30 day trial ends?

Depends on whether you bought them. My understanding is that if you buy them, you own them and can watch them “forever” and as many times as you want. If it’s free with Prime, you usually have 30 days to finish watching a video (shortened to 48 hours after you start watching). I believe access to free rental videos made through Primes ends when you end your Prime membership:
"If you receive access to Prime Video as a part of an Amazon Prime membership:
- Go to Account & Settings.
- On the Your Account tab, select Edit on Amazon in the Your Membership section.
- Select End Membership and Benefits, or End Trial and Benefits (as applicable), and confirm.
Once you turn off Auto-Renew, the renewal date for your membership becomes the end date. You can continue to access Prime Video up until this date.
After this date, you will no longer have access to Prime Video on any of your connected devices, and must start a new membership to access the service again."
