Robinhood announced today that they’ll offer a checking/savings/debit card linked to their brokerage account like a CMA account. It will pay 3% interest and be offered early next year. I do have a Robinhood account and signed up to their waiting list today. About 400,000 people are ahead of me.

I ordered it. You can switch it to buy the CD instead of download for the same price. I use this product each year. It suits me fine. Thanks.

RE: Roll Call...who uses ShopSafe or Citi's "Virtual Account Numbers"?
I haven’t used Citibank’s virtual account numbers in a while.
Years ago I used one and set the limit for $10. I tried to buy an item online that was listed at the wrong price. I forgot what the item was, but it was priced at about $5 in check-out when it should have been $150. After I submitted the order the company emails me stating there was something wrong with my credit card. They were trying to put a charge in for the difference. I didn’t really need the item. I told them to forget the whole thing and refund me the $5, that they did. -
RE: I want an checking account that pays no interest.
There are tons of checking accounts that pay no interest, or so little (like 0.05%) that unless you carry a very large balance you’ll never hit the $10 1099 reporting requirement. Anyway, entering interest earned on your 1040 is the easiest thing to do, and all tax software programs do it. There shouldn’t be any problems.
As far as not having anyone know about your account, that’s separate from the interest issue. You’ll still need to provide the bank your ID information, whether the account earns interest or not.
You could hide your money in some bank out of the country, but if your balances total over $10,000 you still must report the existence of it via a FBAR to the government, even if it earns no interest.

RE: Best type of (Vanguard) mutual fund for young adult, that will probably withdraw for a home within 10 years?
There’s also the Vanguard Star Fund. $1,000 minimum. It’s a balanced fund and good if you can’t make up your mind since it basically invests in a dozen other Vanguard funds.
