Are you getting a % back from iBotta on your instore grocery purchases?
-
I’m now getting 2% back on instore purchases at Shaw’s. I haven’t tried scanning a receipt that doesn’t have an iBotta offer on it but it seems like it gives 2% back on the receipt total. Does anyone have experience with this feature?
A receipt had no iBotta offers other than 10¢ for any receipt. I scanned a receipt on which the total was $5.88. Received 22¢: 10¢ any receipt and 2% Shaw’s instore purchase.
A receipt total was $7.06. I had 4 yogurt that earned 55¢ ea.
I received $2.20 yogurt, 10¢ any receipt and 14¢ for the 2% back
I got credit for 3 transactions towards a bonus.
The 2% looks like it resets like other offers.I rarely spend more than $10 at a time but I may look for abandoned receipts to scan for my next “any receipt”.
-
I have 2% for Safeway. I just submitted 3 receipts without any other offer.
-
2% at Acme as well. Guess it’s at all Safeway/Albertson’s owned chains.
-
@my4mainecoons Is there a daily limit on Shaw’s etc. submissions?
-
@sonofzeus One. It’s like an “any receipt” offer. I have a new 10¢ any receipt offer. I haven’t activated it yet even though I submitted a receipt yesterday. I submitted a RA receipt and that would have counted for the “any receipt” but then I wouldn’t have it for Shaw’s. I’m saving the “any receipt” for my Philly cheesecake receipt from Shaw’s.
I noticed that they removed it as counting towards a bonus. I had 3 transactions now tracking only shows 2.Tnis week I converted RA BC to Amazon g.c.
Will buy Shaw’s g.c. from Amazon.
Buy $20 “cheesecake” from Shaw’s. Earn 2% + 10¢ from iBotta. (50¢)
Since I don’t usually spend more than $10 at a time I might create a one time use J4u account to get a $3/$30 coupon, spend $27 and get back $20.64.

Does the offer go away after you scan a receipt, before it resets?
I scanned 3 receipts back-to-back without any other offer, because the 2% offer stayed in my account, but only 1 actually went through. The other 2 came back with “no matching offer”.

Yes, the offer is like any other offer. It may still show as available right after you submit the receipt. Once the transaction is recognized it goes away.

I bought $175 in Shaw’s gc+ $20 for Philly rebate. Paid with Shaw’s eGC from Amazon. Earned $4 from iBotta: 2% of $195 plus 10¢ for any receipt.
-
Hmmm. Gift cards are supposed to be excluded.

When the 2% back first appeared I thought that it wouldn’t be long before they lost too much money on it. 😁 I wonder if it will be L5 like a normal offer or if it will reset with every “any receipt” offer. If I get it again I will buy another Shaw’s gc with my Shaw’s gc.

Today is the first day of Discover 5% cb at grocery stores. I just bought $400 in Amazon g.c. at Shaw’s and received $8 from iBotta. Should receive $20 from Discover for net 7% discount. IIRC the limit on Discover is $1500 for the quarter. Last year I bought Shaw’s gc but since I can get Shaw’s and gas gc with Amazon gc I went with Amazon. Too bad no “no activation fee” Visa or MC.
-
Today’s submission did not work for me. $500 GC + $5.95 fee returned only $0.12 rebate. Maybe the program has become smarter.
-
@c3 Did you buy anything besides the gc? I made sure to have grocery items on the receipt as well.

Nothing else for the last one. 2 prior transactions worked before, 1 with grocery, 1 without. I don’t think it would make any difference because I received 2% rebate for the fee.

Worked fine today, with grocery. However, I don’t think not having grocery was the issue yesterday.

By “worked fine” do you mean that you got 2% back on g.c. purchase?

Yes, so it’s not dead yet.
-
@c3 Is it still working?
I never earn Rewards and just saw that one of my accounts has 8 Rewards??? I guess the gift cards that I’ve been buying for 2% back from iBotta have counted? I also get 2x pts on meat and produce and I’ve probably spent $50 on chicken for the cats in the past month. The acct has an offer for 2 Rewards wyb $50 so I’ll get another $100 gc and see what happens.
ETA: Just read this: One (1) point will be awarded for each whole dollar spent using your Shaw’s for U™ or Star for U™ account on eligible/qualifying grocery and pharmacy purchases, and two (2) points will be earned for each whole dollar spent to purchase eligible gift cards.
ETA 2: Just came across the 4@$100 Amazon g.c. So that’s what earned the 8 Rewards. 2 Rewards per g.c.
Didn’t earn Rewards for Shaws gc.$400 on Discover for g.c.
$8 back from iBotta
$20 back from Discover
Earned 8 j4u rewards. 7 Rewards = $10 off groceries
Net $372 for $400 in gc and $10 in groceries. Can use Amazon gc to buy Visa gc. so better than buying the Visa from Shaw’s. Can’t buy variable load in my state so was thinking that I would get one in NH. Now there’s no need.

Can use Amazon gc to buy Visa gc.
I don’t think so.
-
@c3 I can’t even order Visa or MC gc from Amazon. Not allowed to ship to my state.
I bought $200 more in Amazon gc so ended up with 12 J4U Rewards which is good for $20 in groceries.

-
@c3 I hadn’t tried it yet, lol. I just figured that since I could buy Visa gc with Shaw’s gc that I should be able to buy Visa at Amazon. We don’t have variable load Visa or MC and no Amex gc of any kind allowed. It didn’t occur to me that they couldn’t ship here since I bought an Amex gc from walmart.com and they shipped it to me.
-
@my4mainecoons If you can buy Amazon GC with Shaw GC, then you can buy them in a loop to rack up more rewards. Not something I would even attempt in my area.
-
@c3 egad. I’ve been using Amazon gc to buy Shaws gc. It didn’t occur to me to buy Amazon gc with Shaws gc. I wouldn’t do it at my usual stores. What I might do instead is to use my Amazon gc to buy Shaws gc then buy a prepaid Visa w/ Shaw’s gc.
-
My offer says it expires on 1/21, at 6:12am.
-
It’s dead, at least for my account.
-
@c3 When I redeemed it yesterday it said “one more day”.

That’s the way it is with Ibotta. Expiration date and time can change very quickly, especially for popular offers. It was 1/21 when I posted 2 days ago. If an offer has only XX hours left, it may be gone when you get back from your shopping trip.
-
The iBotta is gone but I’m trying your suggestion.
In a few transactions I bought $600 in Amazon gc using Discover. Earned 12 j4u Rewards which I redeemed for $20/$20 in groceries.Used the $600 in Amazon g.c. to buy $600 Shaw’s eGC from Amazon.
Bought $600 in plastic Shaw’s gc with the Shaw’s eGC. (Swiping plastic is less noticeable than handing the cashier a paper eGC.)Bought $400 in Amazon g.c. using the Shaw’s gc. Earned 8 j4u Rewards.
Already have 1 Reward on the account so just need to buy another $150 in Amazon g.c. to have 12 Rewards for $20/$20. I believe the $20/$20 is L1/month. I’m using a different account in case it is L1.
-
It’s back!!!

It’s back!!!
I don’t see it in my account (Safeway).
-
@c3 maybe it will show up on West Coast time?
-
I bought $21.95 in groceries & $600 in Amazon g.c.
Paid with 3@$200 Safeway eGC that I’d bought on Amazon, $20/$20 j4u and $1.95 on Shaw’s g.c.
Got back $16.04 iBotta.
Earned 12 Rewards which I will redeem for another $20/$20.
-
still nothing here
