Offer is now live.
Kudos to Staples for offering rewards back on a variety of things and not just AA or AAA batteries like Office Depot did (but evidently now stopped doing) for years.
I have a bunch of Staples rewards saved up. I am thinking of buying a new laptop with my points. The laptop I currently have is outdated.

I am pretty sure you can’t pay with Staples rewards points and still earn Staples rewards points… Perhaps you can pay for part of it with Staples rewards and part of it out-of-pocket and you will probably get the part you paid out-of-pocket back in rewards.
-
@mrvietnam I won’t earn more rewards. I am happy to use our huge Rewards balances to buy Xmas gifts and free ship to our nephews .

The only downside is you don’t get the free extended warranty if you don’t use the correct credit card.

I think my credit card will give me the extended warranty, even if I put only a portion of the purchase price on the credit card. So I can use mostly rewards and just put a small amount on the credit card and I think it will still be covered with American Express at least.

@mrvietnam Trust but verify.

@mrvietnam Trust but verify.
From Google AI:
American Express extended warranty coverage applies even if only a small portion of the purchase price was put on the card, as the benefit is limited to the actual amount charged to your eligible card for the item. The coverage amount will not exceed the actual charge, the original cost of the item, or a specific maximum, typically $10,000, whichever is least.

Oh, I see. Maybe it won’t work because it says the coverage amount will not exceed the actual charge, so say I only charge $25 using my credit card maybe they will only cover it with their extended warranty for $25
But even without the extended warranty, I think I would still get a computer because computers generally, don’t have issues if they don’t have issues right away.

If you are satisfied with only representations from Google AI for financial questions, go for it.

@sonofzeus Of course I would verify like you said, but unfortunately, from reading what Google said it looks like it would not qualify because they would only cover it for up to what you paid on your credit card. So if I only paid $25 of the laptop price on my credit card, the extended warranty would only cover up to that $25 that I use my credit card to pay with. But, like I said in one of my earlier replies, I am happy to forgo the extended warranty to get a good deal on a computer and cash out my gobs of points (before simeone else does it for me, as has happened in my rewards account already).

Is it the “huge” Reward balance that makes one a Most Valuable Customer?
That recently started appearing on my account page.
Site says that I’ve spent $60 this year. I used to spend $1K/yr.
Anyone else have more than $1500 in Rewards? 😋Anyone else receive the $5 in points wyb $5 offer? I didn’t understand it so called CS. Recording said that as a MVC I would be at the front of the line. Waited less than 2 minutes.

I don’t have nearly $1500 in rewards. Much less actually. It’s very possible that you have a most valued customer designation because the amount you have banked in rewards. With that much in rewards, you better be very careful about your account security because if somebody compromises your account all that could go away in minutes. I would change your password regularly. Now I think for a big amount they require you to show ID when redeeming. Before you could just give any phone number and redeem any amount of points. My household actually has two rewards accounts. Mine and one for my wife, which I manage for her.
-
I read just now on Slickdeals that when Staples has 100% offers they tend to jack up the price, so it is very important to pricematch whatever you buy.
Regarding cash out of points, it may be beneficial since Black Friday is so close by to wait to cash out until Black Friday and pricematch whatever you want to buy at that time with companies like Amazon or Walmart.
Also, passport photos are 100% back and rewards this week.

@mrvietnam I didn’t know if MVC was based on Rewards balance or possibly the amount that I’ve spent on prepaid gift cards. Technically they’re supposed to ask for ID with any Rewards redemption. Once when purchasing on my “friend’s” account I was asked for ID. I’d recycled on the account a few minutes beforehand. I told the cashier that I didn’t have ID because it wasn’t me. The cashier let it go because I’d just recycled on the account and possibly because it wasn’t much money.
I recycle 36 carts/month @500 pts each and was saving for a Dell Latitude. I haven’t used any points other than for the recent “spend $5 earn $5” offer. I bought $9.99 Kcups, used $5 in points and paid $4.99 oop. Earned $5.30 in Rewards because break room is one of my Favorite categories. (Earn 6x points per $1 on Favorites.) I recycle and buy things on my dad’s and on my friend’s accounts. They can only recycle 6 carts/month. I got an under counter refrigerator with Dad’s account and lots of clearance Cottonelle on the other (resold most of it). The friend whose account I’m using recently had a baby so I used her account to send her diapers & baby wipes.

how do you do 36 carts month?
i have the plus and only get the 20 + 6.
is there a way to get the extra 10?
-
On both my account and the one I manage I am only allowed to recycle only 6 carts a month at $2.50 each. I am allowed to recycle an additional 10 at a measly 50 cents each, which I pass on. So each month I am only able to add $17.50 to my rewards balance from recycling (the extra $2.50 is for recycling a single alkaline battery).

@ohsheet I’ve gotten 30 since the program changed. The account was Premier (?) based on spending $1K annually on the old program. I used to make sure to reach $1K even after all the FAR stuff went away. My dad’s and my friend’s accounts initially got 15 (+10) but now only get the 6 that everyone gets.
