@ukedog sigh… my store is hanging in there but some of my road trip stores are closing.
Last road trip I raced to a store before closing time only to pull into the parking lot and find it was really closed.
-
I’m lucky I guess. We still have three Sears stores in my county (Orange County, CA), with the nearest to me being only a mile away at South Coast Plaza. The only Knart store in my county is located about 5 miles or do away. I like riding the gravy train until their bankruptcy and it is easier to do that when they have s physical presence in your area.
-
@ukedog My local Sears store is not on a list (yet); however, there are lots of internal-looking inventory tally tags hung up on shelves and wall hooks where many remaining products are hanging out. You don’t have to be clairvoyant to see how this is all going to end!
Also, when dropping by to pick up online orders, I’ve noticed several times a UPS truck backed up to the loading area, with most activity being stacks of boxes being taken into the truck. I suspect many might be online orders being sent directly to customers, vs. shipments back to manufacturers or other vendors. I think this because my recent online orders of several items look to be coming from various Sears store addresses, vs. some central distribution point.
Sears self-liquidation at work!
-
@ukedog Sears has always shipped online orders from other stores. Its been that way for years. A few years ago during the Nakamichi headphone palooza I was ordering 10-20 sets of headphones a day. Some would come from corporate warehouse in IL (?) and some came from stores.
-
Must have been done-in by the coupon this week…
-
More by previous deals than the clothing coupon. Naka headphones were $10MM every 2 purchased. Clothing is just free and we don’t need clothing. Back then you could pay w/ SYWR pts and earn more SYWR pts. Bought 2 headphones for eg $50 paid in SYWR pts and got back $60 in SYWR points. That year I donated 135 prs of headphones to Toys For Tots when they advertised needing stuff for older kids. Folks got headphones and I got a Bosch dishwasher with my points.

Manchester, CT Sears and Vernon, CT SuperK. They always seem busy too!
-
@ctgolfer Heading down 91 to 15, Manchester and Vernon require too much of a detour. However, now that Holyoke, Enfield & Milford are going/gone I guess I’ll have time. One Thanksgiving I left southern CT around 10PM and headed north stopping in Milford, West Hartford, Enfield & Holyoke Sears. KM in Milford & Holyoke. Stores were open 24 hrs that BF. Reached the stores in southern NH around 6AM, got home around 8AM and headed north to the 2 stores there. Overnight the stores were quiet, serving coffee & donuts. One of my favorite road trip memories… those were the days…
-
@my4mainecoons That’s a lot of miles for shopping. Sears is 12-15 minutes from 91 via 291 - Kmart definitely out of the way for you. (another 10 minutes up 84 off 291)
-
@ctgolfer Family is in Fairfield Cty so I make the trip for holidays, etc. Stop to shop along the way. On the way south I probably “hit” Rite Aids. Depending on the deal, over the years I’ve also mapped out CVS, Petco, PetSmart and Staples stores along the way.

Maybe he can pay them back in points spread over 300 months.

Too bad I can’t read the new article UkeDog posted yesterday as I am not a WSJ subscriber, but I will search free media to read up on it.

@mrvietnam What, you have’nt found a free subscription by now?
Other similar, open articles are at Business Insider and CNN Money, among others.

A simple Google search gave me many options to read up on it. Sounds like they are really hurting. Probably time for another big round of store closures. I strongly feel that 2019 will be the year Sears “bites the dust’.
