@MrsGuin Yes, I think you need to reconsider your search technique given the frequency of your reposts. Searching is often not a “one and done,” but a process of elimination, so that could be the issue. Please bookmark this reply/post or print it out and refer to these tips every time you post a new thread until it becomes second nature to utilize various search techniques as applicable/depending on the nature of the new thread:

    • Try using single word searches (e.g., “Bic” instead of “Bic razor” or “free razor”) since the search engine does not handle multiple words well, and might not find existing threads.
    • Unless you’re absolutely certain a word will be in the title, search both titles and posts, e.g., the OP forgot to put the seller in the title but put it in the body of the thread.
    • The more unique/unusual your search word, the better (e.g., if the deal requires a code, use the code as your search word… try searching model numbers or inventory numbers, search “Sam” instead of “club” or “Sam’s Club,” etc.).
    • Don’t use apostrophes, only search the text to the left of the apostrophe (search “Kohl” instead of “Kohl’s”) so you’ll also find posts where OP leaves out the apostrophe.
    • Don’t assume that threads always get posted in the right forum or where you think it should be posted… always search the whole site first because something you think should be in Free Stuff might be posted in Hot Deals… or even outside of the Deals forum (e.g., in GPT), you can always narrow your search later.
    • Don’t assume words are spelled correctly. If your results don’t return any threads on that topic, try another spelling(s) or search 2 or 3 other/completely different words. There may not even be a spelling error, just alternative word usage: you might be searching using an abbreviation like “JCP” but the original poster may have used “JCPenney,” you may search for “saving star” but the OP used “savings*,” you may search for “Exp” but the OP used “Expires” or “Through” or “Until,” etc.
    • It may be easier/more accurate to skip the search engine: If you know that the deal was just newly announced by a website, just look at the first page or two of the forum(s) the deal is likely to be posted in or the first page or two of your unread posts inbox list
    • Every time one of your threads gets locked as a repost in the future, stop and take the time to figure out why what you/how you searched did not work. Add that reason to this list (I strongly suggest you also go to the Expired Deals forum, find your locked reposts, and do this now).
