Google Home Mini $5 after iBotta and Best Buy $20 rebate
-
Best Buy has Google Home Mini on sale for $25, with in-app ibotta offer of $20 rebate and 1% cashback. Item must be purchased in store and you must use ibotta QR code off of your receipt

Ibotta
What does “must use ibotta QR code” mean? Does it mean that you have to scan the QR code off of your receipt? I have BB gc to unload and this seems like a reasonable way to cash out $25.
-
@my4mainecoons yes, I edited post to reflect that.
-
@ctgolfer Thanks. I’m new to iBotta so need a Barney. So I would purchase online via iBotta-- for pick up in store? Then when I pick up they’ll give me a receipt and I’ll scan the QR code off of that, right?

I believe that iBotta assigns you a QR code in the app to scan at the Best Buy register at the time of payment. Find/pull up your iBotta in-store purchase QR code in the iBotta app and scan that BEFORE you pay. The $20 should credit to your iBotta account WITHOUT ever needing to upload your receipt.

OK, I figured it out. I was thrown because when I activated the offer it said INSTORE in the upper left corner. So didn’t seem like I could order online.
Delved into their Help articles and here’s what I found.- From Home, tap Find Offers on the Navigation Bar. Select Best Buy and add any desired offers.
- Tap Redeem on the Navigation Bar and tap Best Buy to create your customized Best Buy Ibotta QR Code.
- Go shopping! Please make sure to review the offers details for exclusions.
- Once at checkout, present the QR Code to the cashier before providing payment.
- Verify that “Ibotta” was printed on the receipt to confirm your receipt submission.
- That’s it! Your purchase will show a “pending” state within 24 hours in the Activity Stream of your app. We’ll verify your purchase within 72 hours.
I’ve activated the offer and will wait until I’m in the store to generate the QR code. Just afraid that I’ll lose it once I’ve generated it. If it doesn’t say iBotta on the receipt I’ll return the Mini immediately.

I’d recommend generating the QR code at home where you’re less stressed and can take the time to figure it out without distractions. Once it’s generated, it’s your assigned/permanent Best Buy QR code assigned to your account (it doesn’t change and you don’t have to generate one for that merchant again). If it makes you feel better, once you get it to generate, just take a screenshot of the code and you can scan the screenshot in store if you can’t get the app to pull up your QR code at the register for some reason.
-
I don’t know how to take a screenshot 😮. I bought a $19.99 AT&T go phone at BB. No phone service, just WiFi. I just use it for iBotta and CO51. I’m trying to cash out BB gc. Ive probably made back the cost of the phone so that’s one $25 gc down, 7 to go.
-
If the go phone has an Android OS, one of these 2 methods should work (depends on the brand):
- Simultaneously press and hold both the power and volume down buttons until you hear a camera shutter/click sound, or see a visual notification that the screenshot was taken (likely a brief framed smaller image of the screen)
- Simultaneously press and hold both the power and home buttons until you hear a camera shutter/click sound, or see a visual notification that the screenshot was taken (likely the screen shot itself with the option to edit it by writing/drawing notes on it, whiting out content, sending it elsewhere on your device/sharing it with others, etc.)
Images are automatically saved in the yellow file manager/my files folder on your desktop (usually under all files --> internal device storage --> pictures --> screenshots). You can rename the files and move then anywhere you want, and you can do other things like edit and save/save, write on, redact, draw on, rotate, crop, etc.
I usually put nonessential apps like shopping apps (iBotta, Coupons. com, etc.) and rewards apps on a non-activated WiFi only device too. Lately, however, I’ve noticed that more and more stores are blocking access to their free WiFi (e.g., Kroger, Walmart, Sports, etc.) on my android devices. So, if a problem occurs like a shopping app requires WiFi/data to even open (so you can’t scan your QR code or verify required size/flavor to get an offer), or a e-coupon doesn’t automatically apply (so you can’t show the cashier/manager the coupon loaded on your account for a manual override), you’re out of luck. I now take screenshots of all of this stuff before I leave home so I’m covered since neither apps nor WiFi/data are required to access screenshots.

I have exactly $25 bb certificate that will expire on 7/20. Unfortunately my local store is oos. Why, why me??
-
I got the mini yesterday. The GPS in the phone must have let the phone know that I was in Best Buy. As soon as I woke the phone up a QR code appeared. Followed the instructions. My receipt had iBotta on it. Just waiting or the $20 to post.

Anyone got the credit to their Ibotta account? took how many days?
I say a pending next day but it’s now gone and no credit a few more days later.
-
@mmyk yes. 4 days. Purchased on Monday, credited on Thursday.
It never showed in my Pending transactions and I never received any confirmation I’d redeemed the offer but $20 showed up yesterday.

Me, too. It was pending, and now it’s gone. I did get the 1% back, but that’s it.

I sent an inquiry though the app. Waiting on their reply.
Perhaps it’s because this was supposed to be for the Google Home, not the Mini?
-
@arthurpeale The offer was definitely for the Home Mini. That’s what I got and I received the $20 from iBotta.
-
Ibotta has a history of ending offers early. If it was still listed in your offers at the time of purchase, you should get the money, however, they pulled this offer as soon as word hit the boards about it being a great price. Offers can (and very often are) pulled at any time. I have to scan my receipts right after I check out now, had too many pulled by the time I get home or even just out to the car. That is the biggest downfall to Ibotta. Saving an offer doesn’t mean anything, unlike other savings apps that just limit the number of people that save an offer.

What I didn’t like about this particular offer was how you have to redeem it. You don’t redeem it through the app, you scan a QR code at the store, and then that gets uploaded to Ibotta at some point.
I’m just wondering why the $20 would show as pending, and then just gone.
My nearest BB is 60 miles away, so logistically it’s a hike. I can’t realistically even bundle other things into the trip to return it. I’d spend almost as much in gas.
-
@arthurpeale Did your receipt have iBotta on it?

I got a digital receipt, and hadn’t checked it until you mentioned it.
Indeed it does!
-
@arthurpeale I read the T&C very carefully before I purchased and it said that iBotta had to be on the receipt. So you did what you needed to do. They just need to pay up.
OAN: They’re promoting scanning the QR as better than not having to scan a receipt. When I send them a scan I get paid within 24 hrs. I had to wait 4 days for them to give me the $20 from BB. Absolutely no incentive to scan QR over receipt.
-
I was right about the offer. It was for a Google Home, not the mini. They must have pulled the offer for the mini.
They did credit me anyway. Here’s a cut and paste from their reply.
“Thank you for writing in. I apologize for the delay in response. We are currently experiencing a higher than normal amount of user requests. I reviewed your Best Buy receipt and the reason you did not initially receive credit for this offer was the Google Home offer required the purchase of the regular sized Google Home, the product purchased on this receipt was the Google Home Mini which did not qualify. Be sure to scroll down on each offer page and review the details/requirements.”
-
I will just return my Mini since I never got the $20 Ibotta credit. Bestbuy allows return within 15 days.

Why not contact support first? They may offer an account credit (it sounds like they screwed up the offer description/terms).
-
@fivetalents I think they pulled the offer. The offer was for the Mini and I got the $20.

I think maybe there were two offers? The offer that I saw was for the regular Home, but since everyone was saying that they got it, I shrugged and went with it.
Others are saying that the offer that they got was for the Mini.
I wish everyone who has not yet received it luck on getting it!
