Looking for a credit card that pays 5% for gas (fuel) & 3% for restaurants (no annual fee) to replace Sam's Club Mastercard

  • I currently have a Sam’s Mastercard that pays 5% cashback for gas (fuel) & 3% cashback for restaurants, but we do not use our Sam’s club membership enough to justify the $45 annual fee. Fuel is the most important category. Excellent credit. Recommendations please and thank you!

Not sure there’s one card out there besides the Sam’s Club and Costco cards that offer 5% gas and 3% restaurants on the same card(actually the Costco card is 4% on gas). The best alternative I know of would be replacing with 2 cards:

Click on the Platinum tab for 5% cash back gas card:
    http://www.fortknoxfcu.org/visa.html

And then this one for 3% at restaurants(I’m sure there are other alternatives for 3% on restaurants):

Not as easy as the option above, but if you happen to qualify for the Platinum Honors level of the Bank of America Preferred Rewards program, you can get their standard cash rewards card. That card allows you to pick one 3% cash back category, and the Platinum Honors bonus bumps that to 5.25%

  • PenFed has a Platinum Rewards card that earns

    • 5% in points on gas purchased at the pump
    • 3% in points on groceries
    • 1% in points on everything else

However, those aren’t true CB rates (1 point = 85¢), so

    • 5% —> 4.25% CB effective rate
    • 3% —> 2.55% CB effective rate

ex. One must redeem 5,880 points for a $50 Visa GC…

According to @TheDiggler, PenFed previously offered a Platinum CASH Rewards legacy card, which earns a straight 5% back on gas paid for at the pump, with the credit posting automatically. Not sure if one can upgrade to that card or not… 🤔
