Staples.com Online Savings Codes

The last thread was moved to expired. It had the date in the title and 5Talents had to edit the title each time there was a new code. Here’s a new thread with no date in the title that hopefully we can just keep updating.

Are the dollar off codes you receive almost weekly in your e-mail personalized or are they just general discount codes that an be used by anyone? Is there any easy way to differentiate between a personalize coupon code and a non-personalized coupon code? Maybe the 5 digit coupon numbers are general use and the longer numbers on coupons are account specific?

  • 500 Club

Generic codes are 5 digit and multi use, ie you can use the same code again as long as you use a different email address.

One time use codes are 16 digits and most recently have been for $25/$75.
While the 16 digit codes are one time use they can be used with any email address or acct.
Codes for $3.50 reams last week (?) were 16 digits and one time use.

  • These 2-day coupons don’t give you much time to plan purchases, especially if I need to go to the store to use partial rewards.

  • 500 Club

@c3 I’m sure there will be new codes on Monday/Tuesday.

I know, but that’s probably going to be a 2-day coupon as well.

That obviously ongoing thread was expired several times despite me moving it back to Hot Deals each time. Then it was commandeered and completely rewritten, so I gave up and expired it myself.

The codes are included in their generic deals roundup emails, but are also posted online: https://www.staples.com/deals/Coupon-Details/BI1870517

  • Any discounts for the Staples Plus membership fee? Mine will expire near the end of this month.

  • 500 Club

@dionaea Mine is expiring in mid-July. Promo last year coincided w/ Prime Day. Pretty sure you can’t get a deal on renewing existing membership. Not positive but I think you can pay for it with Rewards.

My plan is to recycle in early July then cancel PLUS. Then when and if a sale for PLUS happens (maybe with Prime Day in September) I’ll buy it again. My PLUS acct is a second acct so I don’t mind not having PLUS for a few months.

Thanks for the tip, which you had posted in the past. I placed a kiosk order today with a new email address but with my regular phone number. Hope that will work.

I bought a $130 monitor with $40 in 2 online coupons and $90 in 3 rewards. The cashier and the manager looked at each other and seemed to be reluctant to process the transaction.

The $90 in rewards shouldn’t have raised any eyebrows. The online coupons maybe, I’m not sure what the policy is on using those on kiosk orders.

  • 500 Club

@dangeruss I use online codes at the kiosk fairly often. I might use the same code 4 times using 4 different email addresses. Never had a problem.

I was ordering cases of tp and Bounty at the kiosk to the minimum required for the coupon.
    Usually the $15/$60’s.

    1. Order as a guest
    2. Fill cart with $60 of product after special discounts applied, e.g. sales on Charmin
    3. Apply coupon code. $45.
    4. Choose pay at register, use $40 Rewards check.
    5. ~ $5 or less if have more Rewards oop (Chase Ink)

I don’t keep track of which emails I’ve used but I don’t use all the codes on my Rewards acct. There’s no upside if you won’t be earning Rewards on the purchase.
When I share codes I share them from emails that have rarely placed orders. Keeps activity on the address. Also, I don’t want any one address to be too busy.

I guess because you’re using rewards to pay you won’t earn anything on it?

No. 1) I don’t want my Rewards acct to look like it’s abusing coupons. It’s ok with me if an email address that doesn’t have a Rewards account gets flagged but not my Rewards email. 2) When an address uses a lot of coupons they stop sending them to that address. My Rewards emails don’t receive coupons. In the past friends would give me codes. After I used a lot of their codes they no longer received any.

That order got me worried for a few days. It was supposed to be shipped on 6/18 and ready for store pick-up on 6/22. It finally made into the UPS system today (6/23).

  • @my4mainecoons Please forgive my laziness, and perhaps this belongs elsewhere, but I recently got a Staples email saying my Plus membership will renew in 30 days.
I suspect it must have been on sale at “half price” (~$25) in July 2019. So I’m trying to figure out some stuff…

    • Can I buy a Plus membership using Staples Rewards?
    • If I let it expire somehow (not sure how to unlink my CC), what are the odds are another half-price Plus membership sale will happen soon?

TIA for any help with this.

  • 500 Club

@ukedog My membership expires July 15. I bought it on sale, a sale to compete with Prime Day.
So while there will probably be a sale on PLUS at some point (BF?) I doubt there will be one in mid-July this year.
AFAIK you can pay to renew PLUS with Rewards BUT discounted/sale price only applies to new memberships.
So you can renew old membership w/ Rewards or purchase new membership w/ e.g. Staples gc or other form of legal tender. You can’t use Rewards from one acct on another acct, kwim? To get sale price its a new acct.

My plan is to let PLUS expire then wait for a sale and sign up again at which time it will be a new membership. However, I also have a Premier account to play with. If you don’t have a 2nd acct you can wait for a sale or pay full price of $49.

  • I got the Staples More card (which is free) just for the premier membership.

  • 500 Club

@ukedog My bad. I just tried to pay for a PLUS membership w/ Rewards and it didn’t work. Sorry. 😞

Thanks for the info. I have the same problem - my Plus membership is expiring this month, has an auto-renew, and I don’t see way to get a discount on it. I have Rewards, but now I know I can’t use those. Sigh.

  • 500 Club

@dionaea I just looked at Plus account. Looks like I paid for Plus with a prepaid Visa-- expiration date is 2025. Any prepaid Visa I had in July 2019 is long since gone so they can’t charge anything to it but they sure could bill me. I tried to delete the card and got this:

This is your Staples Plus Membership Card
You must first designate a different card for your Staples Plus membership.
If you want to stop your membership, please call 1-855-815-5390.

Your card information is encrypted in our secure servers for added security. For privacy reasons, we don’t save your 3 or 4 digit security code.

lol. I don’t have the 3 or 4 digit security code either. I don’t even have the card.

YMMV, but I just got an email from Staples with the subject heading: “We’re saying thanks with a free item.” Check your email for possible free $10 rewards coupon.

It is a coupon for up to $10 Rewards Free Product with any purchase. First time I got one of these bonus rewards e-mails in a very long time.

Offer valid online at staples.com® or by phone at 1-800-333-3330. Excludes Daily Deals and Auto Restock orders and clearance items. While supplies last. Limit 1 coupon per customer, nontransferable. Offer is subject to change or cancellation at any time. Minimum purchase requirement must be met with purchases to which no other coupon or instant savings offer applies. No cash/credit back. Not valid on prior purchases or purchases made with Staples® Procurement or Convenience Cards. Coupon value applied pre-tax. Expires 07-04-2020.

EDIT: I had a pleasant surprise. A few hours after receiving the first e-mail with a coupon code, I received ANOTHER e-mail with ANOTHER UNIQUE coupon code to the SAME E-MAIL. Not sure why, but I’m not complaining. So looks like I will be getting a free $20 at Staples. 🙂

EDIT2: I was able to place 2 online orders. Each order had a 75 cent Imperial/metric ruler and a $9.99 surge protector and the total after coupon came to 75 cents plus 7 cents tax. Both orders will be delivered this Friday.

  • Mr V, glad you used your $10 free product coupons. I received a $10 free product coupon too. I printed it but didn’t use it. Today I received an email with the subject: “Apologies from Staples Rewards”. The email states:

    Dear Valued Staples Customer,

You may have experienced some recent issues with redeeming your Up to $10 in value free product coupons. We apologize for any inconvenience caused and we are looking at resolving these issues. In the meantime, we have suspended coupon availability. Please be on the lookout for a little something from us to say “I’m sorry”.

    Thank you for choosing Staples.
    Staples® Customer Service

So I guess I have to wait for a valid coupon.

    @kimi

Yes, I got lucky. Both of my orders were not canceled and shipped (I just checked their status). I should be receiving both orders today. I heard on another board they are replacing the $10 coupon with a $5 coupon.

Score! I just got TWO apology e-mails from Staples (each with a unique barcode) with a $10 Rewards coupon that expires 7/11/20. It said in the body of the e-mail “Things didn’t go as planned with the last coupon we sent you and we’re sorry. Here’s a $10 gift reward to use on your purchase.” The nice thing is though is that the last coupons did work for me, so when I take the $10 x2 from the last coupons and this $10 x 2 it comes to a free $40. Now that was easy.

    Check your e-mail.
