So, if this worked for you, you lucked out. Because my purchase through Shopback did track, but it shows the rate as 0%, thus the cash back amount is likewise zero.

Only a modest deal for me in the end to save $5 off $50 (I would otherwise use my Costco Visa to save 4%.)

Have you successfully gotten cash back this way before? As I expected, I read the terms at Shopback, and it says:

Terms and exclusions
You won’t get Cashback on:

• Any Gift Card, Voucher or store credit purchase

Most cash back sites always exclude gift card purchases (unless the merchant mainly sells gift cards, i.e., Gift Card Mall).

Looks like it’s mainly lame prizes like the last app game they had, this has become the going rate. But easy enough to play or skip or whatever.

I don’t think there’s any exclusions. The race day promo is 22¢ on top of whatever you already have in your account.

@yoregano I filled up on Sunday using my alt ID and it worked just fine. On the app, the discount doesn’t show, and at the pump, the discount only shows after I remove my credit card. Maybe the pump was just being difficult. 😐

I’m not impressed with the new Shell app.

There was definitely something wonky going on this time, if you read comments on other forums you’ll see several reports of things not working for some and/or working one way for some and differently for others. When I first tried this past Sunday, the alt ID method did not give the discount (which had worked all the previous times I’ve used the offer) but when I went back later and tried the app (per a comment from someone on SD), it did work for me.

To top it off, I got an email from Shell/FR on Monday acknowledging the issues and got a nice perk:
Dear Shell® Fuel Rewards® members,
Race Day Rewards didn’t activate as expected this past Sunday, 5/10. We see that you should have received your reward and we want to make it right. We’ve added 22¢/gal to your Shell® Fuel Rewards® account, which you can use on your next fill, maximum 20 gallons. No action needed, just make sure you use your ALT ID at the pump and your savings will be automatically applied. You have until 6/30/2026 to redeem these savings!

I waited for today (5/10) with my car on fumes expecting the discount, there is a race today, but to my dismay the discount did not appear. Anyone know why?

UPDATE: Someone on SD says the alt ID method didn’t work, but that paying with the app did. So maybe I’ll go back and try again. (Thankfully, my station is less than a mile away.)

UPDATE #2: Sure enough, I tried again, and the discount appeared by using the app. So maybe going forward, that is the way to go. Who knows, maybe it will be the reverse next time? C’mon, Shell, get your act together.

Confirming: yes, today’s Friday Fuel Up offer did combine with the ten cents I mentioned above. I have 35 cents off for today only.

Edit: Scratch that. The discounts didn’t stack. My app showed a higher discount because it switched to a bank account as payment, which gives a higher discount. When I switched back to a credit card, the discount changed to the standard 20¢.

I shop at QVC for one specific thing, as one of the sources to buy a phone bundle package when I do my annual Tracfone renewal. I would miss them for that if they went under, but otherwise, eh, it’s the modern retail landscape at work.
