RE: Car rental for Kona 4/10-17 dilemma
@sonofzeus So, looks like we lucked out. I hadn’t canceled one of the early reservations that I thought I had canceled… That is a week at just over $300 for a mid-size SUV. I have a backup reservation at just over $600 for the week for a Jeep. As much as I’d like the Jeep, Hawaii is expensive and I think I’d rather spend less for a car, especially since one of our travelmates backed out. Since the prices have skyrocketed, there’s no way I’ll get that $300 rate again, so thinking that’s the best option. Unfortunately, the time it’s due back is 1pm (it was for our old flight) and now we’re leaving at 11pm (same day). So, I’ll see what their hourly rate is for going over the time and returning 8-9 hours later.
It’s through Hertz and I am President’s Circle status with them although in reading some of the forum posts, they assign a car and don’t have a “take what you want” option at this location.

RE: Car rental for Kona 4/10-17 dilemma
@sonofzeus love to try one out. But can the Tesla keep me dry on the ride over to Hawaii? LOL. I seriously do want to try to drive one, though.

@sonofzeus yeeesh! Glad I got what I could.

RE: COVID Test for Hawaii "fee" with insurance
@my4mainecoons gotcha… ok, not sure that’ll work as Hawaii requires specific travel partners for their tests to be performed, surprisingly hospitals are not considered part of the group, only very specific places and CVS/Walgreens. Might call the office and ask anyway… thx!
-
RE: COVID Test for Hawaii "fee" with insurance
@my4mainecoons thanks!! That helps out a lot. Do people just ask generically like “I’d like to get a covid test at Walgreens” for example, to avoid the “for travel” purposes portion
Thanks again!! -
RE: COVID Test for Hawaii "fee" with insurance
Thanks Rick… This is a bit different in that it’s not about the vaccine, but a test from a “trusted partner” that Hawaii authorizes the tests from. There are a lot of free tests at home, but sadly, they are not trusted partners despite them being the same tests that Hawaii requires.
It seems like insurance will be billed from the “trusted partner” test, but it’s up to the insurance company as to whether they’ll accept the claim or bill me.
Thanks for the help and stay well!

COVID Test for Hawaii "fee" with insurance
Hi,
So Walgreens is a provider of the approved tests Hawaii requires to enter the state. They advertise “$0 cost”, but in reality, they are billing your insurance company for the visit and it’s up to your insurance company to decide whether the test was medically necessary.
I live in CT, where we are spiking again. I realize the test, from a trusted provider, for travel will likely be deemed “non-essential”.
In reading further, it says that they bill the insurance company $129 for the test. I attempted to get a straight answer from Anthem as to what to expect, but the agent wasn’t helpful in getting a definitive answer based on the explanation of benefits and ultimately said I “might” be billed unless a doctor ordered the test.
So, do people really call their doctor, pay a co-pay for the doc to order a test, just to avoid this fee? Seems like a huge unnecessary waste of resources and I’m sure my regular doc has better things to do than make an appointment with me for this (they do in-person, Anthem, I was told doesn’t cover telehealth any longer).
If it’s $129, I’m fine with that – just don’t know what to expect. I’ve read some reports online that bills were outrageous vs. others that said they never received a bill.
Didn’t know if anyone had any recent experience?
TIA!

Just wanted to update - they said they didn’t have any recommendations. Doubt Autoslash will find anything cheaper at this point but was worth a shot.
Appreciate the suggestion anyway!

RE: Whopper Wednesday 3/17 in BK APP: $1 Single Whopper, $2 Dbl, $3 Triple Whopper
Never can get the payment to work in the app. The reviews in the app store are ridiculous about the same problem - you’d think they’d pay attention to this error.
Nevertheless, thanks for the share!

Car rental for Kona 4/10-17 dilemma
Hi gang,
Hoping someone can share some “recent” codes that might work for some steeper discounts. Looking at a Jeep (which I know will be a premium) but coming up at $600± through Autoslash.
I love Autoslash and usually they are able to find much better deals (been a few weeks so far and no “movement” in price). I’m sure demand has a lot to do with it.
Didn’t know if anyone had any other codes that worked recently for them to try that maybe Autoslash wouldn’t either try on it’s own or have access to?
TIA!

RE: FREE Unlimited Premium Coffee All Summer at Panera Bread w/Free Unlimited Coffee Sub thru 9/7/20 OR 10/31/2020 w/2 new subscribers
@high-technology I had the subscription before it went “free” and agree - it’s been consistently bad/weak. I actually canceled the subscription right before the free promotion started - so figured I’d get a few months for free. But, once it’s over, I’m done.
I wish McDonald’s would start a coffee subscription!

RE: 1-Year Sam's Club Membership + $45 Instant Savings Offer $45 (new members) exp 3/8
So interesting data point… Used those sign up links. Used new email, etc. Membership lasted for a day before they canceled it. Before they canceled it, I did have the $45 loaded onto the account but hadn’t used it yet as I didn’t expect it to be canceled. None of the bonus e-gift cards were issued. Tried logging back on and said my membership was canceled.
Surprisingly, on that same email, I then got the “$45 off $45 membership” deal that other people got. Guessing the other links caused an issue… who knows.
-
RE: 1-Year Sam's Club Membership + $45 Instant Savings Offer $45 (new members) exp 3/8
@dangeruss Yes - it stacks. Just use a new email addy to be on the safe side for the $45 to be placed in your account. (Don’t use previously used email for Sam’s).

https://www.walmart.com/ip/3-Pack-L-A-Looks-Mega-Mega-Hold-Styling-Gel-20-oz-Bottle/23570341
3 pack of hair gel from LA Looks for $5.55 (don’t forget about cash back portals). Free site to store pickup.
Says each one is normally $5.72 (I have never seen it that high at Walmart - more like $3 in my area) but still a good deal for a 3 pack.

RE: Office Depot.com 10 Ream Case Paper $5 or Free after offers and $40 MIR OD GC (limit 2) (see post please) Free Ship
@mistercheap Ah!!! Gotcha. I already canceled mine, but I’ll try to reorder since it’s in stock. Thx!
-
RE: Office Depot.com 10 Ream Case Paper $5 or Free after offers and $40 MIR OD GC (limit 2) (see post please) Free Ship
Make sure you check order status… I tried doing a $34.99 subscription on this, confirmed it, then when I saw that the order was out of backorder, price was $39.99 (and no subscription). Also didn’t take the 20% off coupon, which it did during the checkout. I was already at $48 with taxes, so canceled.
I’ll try placing another order and see what happens. New offer is cheaper anyway!

@fivetalents Gotcha! Thanks!! It is a great deal at $9.99, I just didn’t know if I was missing something with the math. Appreciate the post!!

RE: Crock-Pot 5 Qt Slow Cooker + Bonus Mini Dipper/Warmer $9.99 (or $7.99 AC) @ Kroger B&M YMMV
Quick question - the coupon says $5 off $25, but the first crock is only $9.99… how would it work? I don’t see how it becomes 7.99 after the $5 coupon, either.
Was gonna give it a try though but wasn’t sure I understood what you meant.
Thx!

RE: 50 Valentine's Day Roses for $50 (Members) or $52.50 (Non-Members) + FS @Costco - thru Feb 11 or while supplies last
@llilith Cool! Glad they made it right. Did you call/email? I’m having an issue where, despite my shipping address being correct, apparently it wasn’t printed properly on the UPS label and they are trying to correct the address. They say can be 1-2 business days for delivery, now. Awesome.
Once they arrive, I’ll contact Costco and see what the deal is/was.
-
RE: 50 Valentine's Day Roses for $50 (Members) or $52.50 (Non-Members) + FS @Costco - thru Feb 11 or while supplies last
Thanks!! In for the red & white… some are sold out already. Really wanted that mixed color … but these will be just fine!
This price really is amazing considering it includes free shipping. Was even able to get the delivery date scheduled for Valentine’s Day… The other companies always charge extra for actual V-Day delivery.

RE: Amex Offer: Sam's Club membership - purchase online only - $25 back on $45
Out of curiosity (as my local Sam’s is now closed… both in my state, actually) - if I were to extend the membership, can I cancel my membership online and get a refund later? I travel for work and sometimes there’s a Sam’s that I’ll gas up at, etc. But, since I don’t have a Sam’s local anymore, visiting a local Sam’s in person to cancel would be a pain and planning to visit one on my work schedule, to cancel, wouldn’t be possible.
Thx!

How to "follow" all the social media platforms in one...
Hi gang…
Wondering what people use (if anything) to help them monitor their preferences for social media.
For example, I remember (Maybe it was Tweetdeck?) that allowed you to integrate a few social media accounts and you could see them update on your screen.
Today, I’ll be honest, I feel like my dad caught in technology and I’m 1/3 his age and embrace technology.
Between Reddit, FB, Twitter, Instagram, etc., I just find it hard to keep up with the latest trends and the interests I have (I don’t have huge accounts on either, meaning I’m not following a ton of people or things that I’m genuinely not interested in).
But, it’s just been hard to check reddit and figure out that mess, check FB, IG, etc. Just wondering if there’s anything that is made that kind of integrates everything in once (desktop application) so you don’t have to continually switch between platforms just to see what’s there?
I realize I could open multiple monitor windows, etc. But didn’t know what else existed (if anything?)
TIA!

RE: Flood Insurance questions
That’s what I thought too… $317k. Price was listed on the package they supplied at the showing.
@atikovi said in Flood Insurance questions:
How much is the house worth? That seems like a lot unless it’s a million dollar property.
-
RE: Flood Insurance questions
Thanks!! Yeah - it’s in St. Pete, FL and will be my primary residence. I can totally appreciate sticking with one insurance company because I was worried about the exact scenario you mentioned.
Question though - since it’s bundled with your regular homeowners policy, can you tell how much the flood portion goes up? The realtor mentioned that it’s “locked in” and doesn’t go up, but I can’t imagine that that’s the case.
Out of curiosity - how much has your policy gone up? I was quoted $2600 just for flood insurance (flood zone AE) but it’s a concern of mine that it’ll keep going up and up to the point of not being able to afford to hold on to the property.
Thanks!!
@amiami44 said in Flood Insurance questions:
I have my homeowners and flood thru State Farm. Although flood is written thru FEMA its administered thru State Farm. If you are buying in Florida you get a standard premium. If you are a winter visitor (aka snowbird) you pay a surcharge, The reason its important to have both thru the same insurance company is the claims adjusters will find a meeting of the minds of whats flood and whats homeowners. During Charlie I had two companys and they couldnt agree where flood stopped and homeowners started. Take a piece of 4x8 drywall and no one wants to pay for the 4 inches in the middle. I would lock in my rates and understand flood will increase next year regardless because of Floridas and Texas claims

Flood Insurance questions
Hi PW’ers (feels weird to say that – so used to the “FW’ers”)
I am in the market for a house and the area that I’m interested in purchasing is in flood zone AE, so I’ll need flood insurance. Having never dealt with flood insurance before, I wanted to ask those that have experience with flood insurance, a few questions:
-
The realtor that I am using said that you “lock” into a rate for flood insurance once you get the policy, so the price wouldn’t increase for subsequent renewals years. Is that correct? My current premium for regular homeowners insurance increases, so surprised that flood insurance would lock in.
-
Are there varied rates on policy premiums for flood insurance or is this somehow regulated? I read up on FEMA’s website, but rather confused at their explanation.
-
The realtor also mentioned that I could get an elevation certificate which would certify the exact elevation and reduce insurance coverage. A question I had was, could this work against me if the house had less elevation than what the insurance companies had on file? In checking online, it didn’t seem like this would affect me negatively, but figured I’d ask.
-
I realize that in addition to flood insurance, I’ll need homeowners insurance. Is there anything I can reduce on the homeowners insurance side coverage-wise that would be covered by flood insurance so I’m not overpaying?
Thanks in advance for the help!!

RE: Sirius XM select 6 months for $33 or 5 months for $28 (YMMV, plus taxes/royalty fees)
I am up for renewal next month, too. Had it for Howard Stern (agree, it’s getting lame, but…) in any case, I guess to get H.S. you have to have the full deal. I also added web listening/app listening, so I was at $130/year.
Anyone have the car + web/internet deals to report? The ones posted above seem to be just radio, not internet listening (unless I read wrong?)
Curious to see what deals there were for my current plan.
Thanks!

RE: Buy a $115 Southwest Gift card for only $100 - Via Email by ppdg @ eBay
i tried to get in on this - unfortunately, PayPal put a hold on the account because I guess it seemed suspicious. So I call up PayPal to have the hold fixed… 1 hour 20 minute wait for a call back. What happens while I wait? Out of stock.
If you got in on this - awesome. Any ideas how to have Paypal lift these limits quicker? Not the first time - sometimes the purchases go through, sometimes not. Drives me nuts, especially since these deals don’t last long enough to get the hold lifted.
I’ve purchased from the seller before, many times actually. I would think their “criteria” for determining the validity of a purchase would’ve seen my spending habits by now…
Anyone else have any issues with the same problem?
TIA…

Wearable Technology Deals
My SO’s birthday is coming up at the end of the month. She says she wants either an Apple Watch or a Fitbit to help keep track of her being active, etc.
I haven’t been keeping track of wearable tech, so I’m trying to decide what to get.
She is mostly into fitness. While I think she would love to see texts, calendar, etc., on her watch, like on some Fitbits, I don’t know that she’d need a full Apple Watch (or comparable) to text back. I know she won’t use it for calling or anything more sophisticated than that.
I believe she’d like to (maybe) reply to a text here and there but as she’s a teacher, she doesn’t really have a lot of time to reply to texts now.
Any suggestions? Her birthday is the end of the month, so potentially, I can wait for a BF deal.
Thanks!

RE: movie pass how many movies have you seen and any snafus?
So far, I’ve seen about 8 movies. Had it for 2 months. So far, so good. What I’m concerned with is their latest terms say they can raise the price or limit the amount of movies you see rather than the all-you-can-watch now, which I knew was coming… just hopefully it will continue to pay for itself.
I mostly see movies first thing during the day, before work, so with matinee prices, I’d have to see 2 movies a month to break even … but shouldn’t be an issue. I have seen quite a few “I’m glad I didn’t pay for this!” movies so far…
