PayPal is great as long as you’re not a seller. If you’re a seller with a linked bank account, they don’t think twice about raiding your account - which, since they are not a bank and are not subject to banking regulations, means you give them pretty much free license to do whatever they please with your account by accepting the user agreement.
Learn from my experience - if you have a linked account, keep only the bare minimum in the account. Otherwise you may find your funds suddenly locked up for ~180 days while they “investigate” a completely false claim from a buyer (which you know the buyer will ultimately win, 'cuz that’s how PayPal rolls).
I used SkyAuction.com back around March 2000, @ruthie, and won a stay in a nice chalet in the German Alps, near the Swiss border. I don’t think that I was also able to win airfare, but I certainly tried…those were the days of pay-by-the-minute, 56kb dial-up Internet…
The chalet offered day trips each day; I went on one to Lugano, Switzerland/Luino, Italy (twin cities) and toured a chocolate factory.
The whole trip was really nice, no problems, whatsoever.
****I took your advice very seriously and opted to sell my TRU gc on the Bay.
Had 6 $25 gc. Listed 2 sets of 3 ($75 ea) for $66 ea. Most listings gave 10% discount, ie $22.50 for $25 gc. It was worth $1.50 to ship 3 at once vs. 3 separately, ie $66 vs. $67.50
I copied a listing where seller posted “gift cards will be shipped 2 business days after payment to avoid fraudulent charges”.
I photographed the back sides of the cards showing silver on the PINS had not been removed.
I photocopied receipts showing cards had been activated and enclosed copy w/ the cards.
I created shipping label immediately so qualified for TRS discount, but chose mailing date 2 days later. I offered refund if cards were returned with PIN’s still hidden and funds present.
I also really lucked out. One buyer bought both sets a few hours after I listed.
I checked him out. He had >3000 positive feedback. He’d bought a lot of TRU gc from other sellers and they’d all left him positive FB. He sells high priced Lego sets.
Raise was offering $18 for $25 gc plus I would have paid to ship cards to an online seller.
After shipping, fees and 10% TRS discount I made $18.75/card but I have the money and +FB.
@my4mainecoons … no refunds. scammers have machines that put that silver strip on the back. so somebody might get the cards info. return them … wait for it to sell to somebody else … drain the card.
Better safe than sorry
