I don’t know when this one started but today is the last day.
Previously it was $15 off wyb $200 or $10 wyb 2 @ $50 vgc.
This is the first time I’ve seen $100+ which means the variable load card might work, IDK.
Someone would have to check DoC or try it.
In the old days I would have used this to consolidate a bunch of smaller value prepaids into a $500 prepaid but the register won’t let you do that any more.
SO this is only a deal for a few such as Mr.V and his 6% back on groceries Amex and for me.
I have a new Chase Sapphire with $800 sign up bonus for $4K spend in 90 days.
$5.95 activation fee so $4.05 in free groceries per $100 gc.
We have more than one J4U acct so will get a few at $100 rather than 1 @ $500.

Actually I do not have that 6% back on groceries Am Ex card anymore (It is called the Am Ex Blue Preferred card). I am going to wait until the early summer to upgrade my Am Ex Blue Everyday card again. That way I can double up on the 6% benefits as they have a cap on the amount you can earn at 6% each year, but by upgrading in June I can straddle two years and get twice the benefits, at least that is how it has worked before when I did it.

I know. used to be sweet to use a previous Visa GC to buy a new one. Good things always come to an end. But learned that Shaw’s GC does work - confirmed yesterday.

so you buy a shaw’s gc and use it to pay for the Visa? can you then use the Visa to buy a Shaw’s GC or no?

Based on the recent data, using a store’s GC to buy GC is still allowed by the system (why?), but that’s highly YMMV depending on the cashier. Extremely unlikely to work in my area.
I buy $500 for tax payment. Need a similar deal for MC.

Check your account in the Amex Offers section for upgrade offers. I just got $0 fee for the first year, and $150 bonus for $1000 spending in the first 3 months. Equivalent to $245 upgrade bonus.

Totally OT: I’m trying to spend $4K in 90 days to earn an $800 sign up bonus. My homeowners insurance is escrowed. BUT to get $1000 towards my $4K spend I called my homeowners insurance company and paid for 2021 in advance using the new cc. Three weeks later I received a check from my insurance agency refunding what I’d put on the cc. So I increased my cc spend by $1K and got the money back.

For the Visa/MC available from Safeway, MC does not work with PayUSAtax/Pay1040, and Visa does not work with Official Payments.
