@ultrahugewallet Same price at Best Buy (color idk) and Target (black). Amazon has all 4 colors.
-
I heard you can’t get any of the Google apps (You Tube, etc) on Amazon products.

Yes, it only comes with the Amazon App store, but can be hacked pretty easily to access Google Play.

I have several Amazon fire tablets, ranging from 7" to 10". I use them as little portable TVs. They are great for the price.
Years ago I did the hack to add Google Play on my 1st fire tablet. It worked. Then months later I noticed it didn’t work anymore. I did it again, and months later it didn’t work anymore. So I gave up. (The apps that I downloaded from Google play couldn’t get updated after I lost Google play.)
The Amazon App store has the Xfinity app which is the app I mostly use – I didn’t need Google Play afterall.

@mrvietnam You heard wrong. I’m not very tech savvy but I’m currently writing this on a Fire. This is my 2nd Fire ($20 net after deals on Amazon) and I’ve installed Google Play on both of them. The tablet comes with Silk browser. Using Silk you download the Play Store. From the Play Store you download Chrome. Easy Peasy. 🙂. The only thing I wish it could do but doesn’t is iBotta.
My first Fire was working fine when I traded it in for credit towards newer model.

Is it really that easy? Thanks, Maine. I am sold. My kids will use this to watch You Tube videos. It is about 4 times cheaper than the cheapest.
-
@mrvietnam instructions here. When Fire OS updates you may need to add Google Play again. Because Fire OS is a tweaked version of Android, some Android apps may not run but many will.

I want to get the 10" to watch videos but have to figure out the best way to do it. Appreciate others thoughts.
- Amazon. I have hundreds in Amazon gc from converting Bonus Cash. Now it’s not as easy to convert BC since the coupon limit changed to 4 like coupons. I can use Amazon gc to buy gas and supermarket gc so they’re very useful.
- Staples. I have $80 in Rewards on 2 accts. Rewards are easily earned. No sales tax when you pay with Rewards. Usualy I use Rewards to buy ink to flip which converts Rewards to cash.
- Best Buy. I have BB gc that I bought when you could use BB gc to buy 3rd party gc. I didn’t use them up in time. I’ve been slowly cashing them out at a profit. Using a BB gc feels like paying real money. I bought them at RA and earned BC for the purchase but I think I paid for them with money not with Plenti Pts/BC.

I bought my Fire HD 8" last year for less than $40.
Installed Google Play.
It’s a great infotainment device.
Buy what you need/want as cheaply as possible.
Recoop the outlay through MM opps.
-
I read that during Amazon Prime Day the Fire 10 went down to $70. I wonder if I hold out until Black Friday and into the Christmas shopping season if it will dip even lower than $75?
To get 64GB it costs an extra $40. Since it will mainly be used for video watching, it probably is not necessary to pay the extra for 64GB, right? I wonder if the Amazon app store has a wide range of apps available.
Why can’t you use the Inotta app on a Fire 10? It’s not on the Google Play store for download?
-
@mrvietnam The Fire comes with a micro sd slot. You can get a 64gb micro sd card for under $20 or a 128gb for $20 on Amazon. If you plan on buying more than 1 Fire you can get multi packs of sd cards. SDXC is the latest high speed format.

Could you link to a recommended 64gb micro sd card and a 128gb micro card that would be suitable for my new 2021 edition 10" Kindle Fire. I want to get one, but I wasn’t sure which would be the best one to buy. I bought the Kindle with 64gb capacity, but I want to add more. Thanks.

@dionaea This is a well known brand & these are made for Amazon devices…or so it says.
-
@mrvietnam IBotta app on Google Play is “not compatible with this device”. AFAIK you can’t scan bar codes with Fire.
@sonofzeus I paid $20 last year for my current 8" Fire. Two years before that the net price was $0 after the dust settled. So the idea of paying anything close to the selling price is anathema to me. I guess the cheapest is Staples because 40 empty inks gave me $80 and the empties were < 20¢ ea. So $8 and no sales tax.
@Dionaea I found a FAR microSD card in my stash. I have no idea what brand it was (I think it might have been San Disk) but it worked. Too bad I forgot to remove it when I sent the tablet back to Amazon for recycling credit. I’d transferred the contents onto my laptop and I forgot about the card.
For my fellow cat owners, the charging cable is micro USB-C. I picked up a couple of cheap spares on eBay.
I presume this model comes with ads. You have to pay more for ad-free.

@dionaea Here’s all the info you’ll need concerning sd cards & Fire.

Both of those instruction links provide the baby-step detailed information I needed, AngryEyebrows, and thank you as well for providing links to the memory cards on Amazon.
-
I will probably get mine from staples.com as they don’t charge the $4 recycling fee in California while Target and Amazon do.bi would much rather use rewards and get it at Iffice Depot, but they don’t carry it.

@mrvietnam Use your $5/$10 TCB offer to buy a $10 Staples gc from giftcards.com.

Ok. Your idea sounds like a good one. Hope the giftcards.com purchase tracks though…TCB has been a crapshoot for me lately on having purchases track.

If it doesn’t you’re the problem . I’ve gotten it for gc purchases and last week MrC got it.
Giftcard mall also has cb but theirs starts at $20+ vs giftcards.com will give you the pennies.

I just tried to order a $10 virtual Visa from giftcards.com and they wanted a $5.95 fee which would negate any bonus received from TCB.
-
@mrvietnam Why would you order a Visa card with a fee??? Stick with the Staples gc. Or get a Safeway gc. Or Kohls. Or anything else without a fee.

Ok. I didn’t realize they had Staples cards. Will they send the card number immediately?
-
@mrvietnam Read up a few posts. Didn’t this start with my telling you to get a Staples gc? Yes.

Well, I just ordered a $10 gift card sent to me immediately via e-mail. I will give it until morning to see if it tracks for cashback and if not I will place another $10 giftcards.com Staples gift card order in the morning and see if that one tracks. I figure since the tablet will be $80 after tax I could place up to 8 $10 orders. How many gift cards will Staples allow you to apply to a single order?
EDIT: i just Googled it and it looks like the answer is 5, so I will have 5 tries at the bonus from TCB.
No more than five cards may be used for any single purchase. Cards may not be returned or consolidated.
The screen resolution on an Amazon device is not nearly as good as the screen resolution on an Apple device, but my kids won’t care or probably even notice a difference and the price is right.

I just placed my order for 2 from Staples and t said the special pricing expires 11/28/21, which is this Sunday. That makes me wonder what the price will be on Cyber Monday, the day after the special pricing expires. Time will tell.
-
I ended up getting one directly from Amazon using the Discover 40% off offer when you use your cash back balance. Took $30 off the total so $44.99 plus tax. Pretty sweet deal if your account is eligible for the offer.
-
IDK how it will work, its small and YMMV but this rang up $1.46 @ Staples when I price checked it today.
-
I recently got a Fire 8 tablet from Target for $40. (had a bunch of Circle credit that paid for most of it).
Anyway, was disappointed in the app offerings from Amazon and their browser sucks IMO too. So I followed the directions at this link (takes a little time, maybe 15 minutes) but worked like a charm and now my Fire Tablet works like my android phone with chrome and many apps I wanted on it from my Google Play library.
BTW, Fetch Rewards works on it, but Ibotta doesn’t. Not sure why IB isn’t compatible with the tablet, but no biggie, will just use my phone.

My HD8 (2020) runs Google Play apps.
However, Hulu app says: not compatible.
Workaround?

Note: It worked! 9-)

Now price back up to the regular price of 149.99, but you can still get it for 74.99 at Game Stop and at Amazon.
