@MrVietnam Sad day, but not surprising. Have hardly shopped at RA since last summer.
-
I only go there to pick up a monthly prescription for my wife. The shelves have pretty much remained bare since their last bankruptcy.

indeed they have. for a time managers were telling me around the holidays/1st of the year things would be restocked, it never happened. Which made this news not the least bit surprising. I’ve met many nice/hard working employees at Rite Aid, I hope as many stores can be saved by another party as possible so people have jobs. However I am not holding my breath given the current climate for retail drug stores.

ripped from SD:

I was actually heading to RA today because I have a $10/$40 expiring today.
Hopefully can still use it to cover RA gc -> 3rd party gc. It’s only $10 but better to have 3rd party than RA gc.
-
Sad that they are finally biting the dust but I knew it was coming sometime sooner or later. I am glad though that I was able to get on the gravy train when I did and now have a garage full of stuff I got cheap, free, or MM from Rite Aid. Saves me a lot of money now. Instead of going to the store to buy things now at high prices I can just go into my garage.
-
There was a weekly ad online for this current week. It’s gone now. I wonder if everything will become full price. Tums are BOG50% this week. I have ~$200 in RA gc. Yesterday I converted $10 to a Staples gc, bought $40+ of stuff that I can use and transferred all my Rx’s to be filled there, including ones I don’t need now. That will leave ~$50 to use in a month.
ETA: Must be a site issue. The ad is available on non-RA sites.

(ninja edit) 64 locations of the 1,240 slated to close will be sold CVS. Prescription files for nearly 1000 stores purchased by CVS, Kroger, Walgreens, and Albertsons CNN article
Many jobs will be saved because it is an asset purchase, according to the Rite Aid press release.

@ctujackbauer did you read that article?
What has been sold is the RX files, not the stores.
Rite Aid has sold the pharmacy services of most of its stores across the United States to several rivals. The bankrupt company announced the fire sale Thursday, with CVS Pharmacy, Walgreens, Albertsons and Kroger scooping up Rite Aid’s pharmacy services at more than 1,000 locations.

I read online on the Nextdoor app that a customer at a Rite Aid near my home was told the entire chain will be closing June 19, 2025.
I will be on vacation to the Dallas area (the land of no RAs) until the morning of June 18, 2025, so when I get home I will rush off to my local RA and see if anything is left and at what discount.

@mrvietnam thirdhand news isn’t always 100% true. A poster on my ND area claims our nearest store isn’t closing. We all know that isn’t true.
-
@mrvietnam Thx for filling in the details. while it is all unverified info right now, I’d have to think store closings will be staggered by part of the country. Can’t imagine every store in every state is locking their doors on the same date. We’ll find out soon I guess.

Although the company has yet to reveal the two locations, Giant Eagle shared that they will be similar to four standalone pharmacies it operates, including in Edinboro and Greenville, per Chappell.
In addition to taking over the two Rite Aid spots, the chain will assume responsibility for the pharmacy prescriptions of 78 closing Rite Aid stores in Pennsylvania and Ohio, Giant Eagle announced last Thursday.
“We’re excited to welcome new patients to our Giant Eagle Pharmacy,” Giant Eagle president and CEO Bill Artman said in a news release.

On of the stores that is not listed as closing is close to me and based on its location, it wouldn’t surprise me if Giant Eagle operates it a a standalone pharmacy.
