I would usually buy my go-to gift card for this offer, which is a Walmart gift card. Upon looking, I see TopCashBack gift cards do not carry Sam’s Club or Walmart gift cards anymore (or at least right now). I wonder why. What gift cards are you guys getting? I am open to suggestions.

Well, I was going to get Staples because it is always nice to have a little money at Staples so I can pay for amounts remaining after I use my rewards points to buy something, but then I saw they had Albertsons gift cards, so I went with that option instead as food is the way to a man’s heart. So 16.5% off $20 at Albertsons it is. Hopefully they are just restocking Walmart/Sam’s Club gift cards and they will continue to be an option for future TCB bonus offers.

@mrvietnam Why not Disney? Don’t you have a trip planned?
I bought Shaws egc and used 4 of them to buy a $75 Chewy gc and received the $15/$15 grocery q last week. YMMV
Even if you use the Albertsons (?) gc.for groceries its a better discount than the 6% your Amex gives.
If you get another pet then you can get PetSmart, Chewy & Petco gc. 😉

I only have the Am Ex Blue Everyday card (no annual fee) that gives 3% back at grocery stores. However there is a AAA credit card that you can get that gives 5% back at grocery stores and 3$ back at club stores like Sam’s Club and Costco all for no annual fee) that I will be applying for soon. It is called the AAA Daily Advantage Visa Signature® card.

@mrvietnam did you give up your other Amex?
There’s an option for Your Gift Choice which sounds like a Zift card but IDK which merchants are included.

I have that Amex too but don’t use it for groceries because it’s only 3%. I go for 5%.
I used to buy groceries with Visa gc from Staples (5% Chase Ink) but I assign each Visa gc transaction to an account and it was ridiculous tracking all my small grocery purchases (<$3). So when Discover was giving 5% back for supermarkets I bought $100 Shaw’s gc. That’s a single entry of $300 in “Grocery” vs hundreds of small ones. If I run out of Shaw’s gc I’ll buy more using a prepaid Visa from Staples.

I try to avoid paying annual fees for credit cards, so I ditched my Am Ex Blue long ago. I like the free version better though too because it gives me 3% cashback on online orders and a free Disney+/Hulu subscription.

I wonder if the Your Gift Choice card has a minimum amount to purchase or if you can redeem for that option for whatever amount you want to buy it for.

TCB used to (perhaps as late as a few years ago) give you $3 cashback with a $15 spend, but I guess those offers are gone forever. Now they give you less money back for a larger purchase, but something is better than nothing.

    @mrvietnam how about eBay?

  • Walmart was my go-to, as well, one of the few everyday retail options. Bummer if it’s gone for good.

I’m hesitant to buy certain restaurant/retail cards because I don’t like to tie up funds unless I’m sure it’g going to get redeemed quickly. And for a lot of these, it’s not as good a deal as it seems when you can get a better discount buying direct from the restaurant/website with frequently offered promos or redeeming Discover cash back with a bonus. Stores like Old Navy/Gap, Chipotle, Panera, Kohls, and Jersey Mike’s are examples of this.

I wish there was a detailed description of Your Choice Gift, Google gives some possible choices, but it’s not clear what stores are definitively available. Also, the minimum spend is $25, not $20. Anyone ever try this?

An option I have done from time to time is Taco Bell. TB cards are not often discounted better from other platforms/promos. This is also a place where I can dumpster dive for receipts to get rewards points. And lastly, they have a “Tuesday Drop” every Tuesday at 2 PM pacific time where they make available a limited quatity deal. Sometimes it’s a contest entry for merch, but it’s usually a discounted food item. Typical examples are items like a Chalupa Supreme, Five-layer Burrito, or Gordita for $1, a big markdown from regular price. The catch is that the offer must be used that same calendar day.

How do you know for sure Walmart is gone for good? When you click on “gift cards” and it takes you to the home screen it still shows the picture of the Walmart gift card, among others. They may just be restocking or something. I guess only time will tell.

  • @mrvietnam I just now (5:30 pm CDT) checked TCB gift cards and Walmart does not show up when I use their search function.
