Rite Aid Bonus Cash

  • Global Moderator

This is a memo from corporate to the stores. Here are some changes coming to Rite Aid’s Bonus Cash in the coming weeks:

We have listened to your feedback from our customers and plan to make some enhancements to the program in the coming weeks, which include:

    1. Improved receipt messaging including tallying a customer’s accumulated amount.
    2. Ability to redeem a large Bonus Cash Rewards at lower increments (partial redemption).
    3. Allow a customer to choose whether or not they want to redeem their Bonus Cash in a particular transaction.

In the meantime, please huddle with your team and reinforce these points to better help our customers understand Bonus Cash:

    1. When a customer earned a bonus cash reward, please point out the reward to them by highlighting or circling the reward on their receipt.
    2. If a customer asks what rewards they have earned, you can look it up on the register by pressing the green Card Status button (after scanning their Plenti card or entering their phone number look up).
    3. Remind customers that rewards will be available for used on the next business day following the earned and are available for 60 days.
    4. Remind customers that the reward amount will automatically be deducted from their next purchase, provided the net purchase amount of eligible products is greater than the Bonus Cash Reward value after all Gold/Silver discounts are applied.

One last awareness item: When a customer presents paper coupons, paper coupons trump (will be accepted before) Bonus cash, but there are some corner cases where Bonus Cash can prevent the use of a paper coupon. We are fixing these corner cases over the next couple of months, but in the meantime if you have this issue, you can scan the paper coupons before entering the customer’s Plenti/Welness+ number to get it through.

Nothing about a pin, in case someone uses your number and still no option to have your Bonus Bucks printed on your receipt either.but these are great steps!

thanks for sharing this Mr. V…

Yes, hope they add a pin for redemption.

Received ab e-mail from Rite Aid yesterday about Bonus Cash:
(You would think they would have sent this weeks ago when Bonus Cash was just rolling out, It seems like the change from Plenti to Bonus Cash was kind of abrupt. Makes you wonder why.)

As a loyal wellness+ customer, we want to thank you for your business and provide you with some facts about BonusCash rewards.

    What are BonusCash rewards?
wellness+ BonusCash Rewards are digital coupons earned on participating items and promotions throughout the store and online, loaded automatically to wellness+ or Plenti card for use in-store or at riteaid.com

How do I use my BonusCash rewards?
Your rewards will automatically deduct from your next eligible transaction at Rite Aid. Your transaction total (after discounts or coupons) must exceed the amount of BonusCash rewards you have. For example, if you have a $10 BonusCash reward, your transaction total must exceed $10.00 in order for the reward to be used. Exclusions apply.

How can I see the BonusCash rewards that I’ve earned?
BonusCash rewards will print on your receipt during the transaction that you earn them. You can also just ask an associate next time you’re in one of our stores. They are not currently available on your monthly wellness+ statement.

    Do my BonusCash rewards expire?
BonusCash rewards expire 60 days after they are issued.

If have Plenti points, can I still redeem them?
Yes, you may still use your Plenti points at Rite Aid.

  • Can you use Bonus Cash to buy gift cards?

  • Global Moderator

    @harperr No, you cannot.

  • Newbie question. If I use my Plenti card to use Plenti points for the purchase, will I get Bonus Cash to my Plenti card or I need to have my Wellness card too?

Plenti card = Wellness card. You will get BC on your Plenti/Wellness card
The big difference is that the BC is earned in fixed $ amts and has to be redeemed in those amounts. e.g. If you earn a $5 BC you can’t use it on a $4 purchase. Have to have $5 before tax to redeem it.

Also, unlike Plenti there’s no PIN required to redeem the BC so can be used by anyone w/ your phone number if that’s how you identify your acct.

  • One more. If I want to do the buy $20 and get $5 BC, do I need to buy all the items at once or they track?

    they track

  • Global Moderator

@MrVietnam any further word on them breaking large BC amounts into smaller?

Finally was able to roll two $20 BC rewards from early January today on 2 cards but that isn’t always easy to do.

In the very near future look for a big update to the Rite Aid Wellness+BonusCash program! While we love the fact that we score great deals with the program, there were a few downsides…

    1. You have to spend the BonusCash in the same increments as you earned it
    2. You had no control over when you wanted to use it. So if I wanted to make a couple purchases and use my account, I would be forced to use my BonusCash even though I might not be earning BonusCash in return.

Sources with Rite Aid say that starting April 16, 2018, all this will change and the changes we’re about to see will make shopping and earning your BonusCash much more appealing!

Look for the changes to come, but here is what we know and wanted to bring to your attention:

    1. BonusCash will accure in a “wallet” and collect a total dollar amount available to spend.
    2. Previously earned BonusCash will be converted into the dollar amount and added to the customer’s wallet.
    3. The pin pad will prompt the customer to use their available BonusCash or save it for later.
    4. Spend BonusCash at any dollar amount. Customers no longer have to spend at least the amount of the individually earned BonusCash.

  • Those changes are definitely needed.

For those who still have Plenti points to use up, it is being reported on IG that the last day to use Plenti points at Rite Aid will be Tuesday, July 10, 2018.

I just called directly to Rite Aid corporate customer service and the rep said that the week of July 8th will be the last week to use Plenti points at Rite Aid. I then asked what happens if I still have Plenti points left. He said that is still being worked out, but most likely they would converted over to BonusCash. Don’t know if it is true or not, but that is what he said. I guess we can all just stay tuned.

From what I read on sd perhaps it is the entire Plenti program closing down July 10th, so I wouldn’y save your points thinking you will use them to buy gas later on because that may not be an option either. It will be interesting to see what Rite Aif and/or American Express do for those of us who can’t spend all out points by closing day.

If anyone gets a hold of the memo from corporate to the stores, please post.

This is another store memo reportedly sent to stores in April 2018…

    April 16th -
◘ wellness+ bonuscash enhancements roll out to the chain. You asked, and we listened.
we’ve made important enhancements to the way that bonuscash works.

    ○ BonusCash will accure in a “wallet” and collect a total dollar amount available to spend.

    ○ Previously earned BonusCash will be converted into the dollar amount and added to the customers’ wallet.

    ○ The pin pad will prompt the customer to use their available BonusCash or save it for later.

    ○ Spend BonusCash at any dollar amount. Customers no longer have to spend at least the amount of the individually earned BonusCash.

Good question. I do not believe so. When Rite Aid formally announces on 4/16 the end of Plenti will be 7/10, I will reach out and ask your question to Rite Aid corporate and give an updated reply. With that said now would be a good time to find out what phone number each of your Plenti cards is tied to and the PIN just in case you need to start entering your phone number and PIN at the register you will be able to do so.

Agreed. I wonder why it didn’t catch on. I think it was not as much as retailers leaving Plenti, as it was Plenti leaving the retailers. I guess it wasn’t making enough money for American Express. Perhaps they were not able to attract as many retailers as they were hoping for.

I think the retail climate hurt. Obviously the RA/Wags merger (RA being one of the largest chains in the program), Macy’s closing stores, etc. I’m sure it was not a cheap program to administer, not sure how it was managed financially, but obviously it wasn’t catching on and other factors found stores simply disappearing to shop at where Plenti was in place.

Now when you go to Plenti.com they have this announcement posted:

The Plenti program will end on July 10, 2018.

Please login or visit our FAQs for more information.

As of April 16, 2018, plenti.com is no longer accepting new enrollments. If you have a Plenti card and have not yet finalized enrollment, click “Complete enrollment” below.

Then once you log on it says:

    Important changes to Plenti

The Plenti program will end on July 10, 2018.

On that date, any unredeemed Plenti points will expire.

You should use your Plenti points by July 10, 2018.

It also says “Thank you for the ride. The sun will set on Plenti on July 10, 2018. Redeem points before they’re gone!”

    Dear Plenti Member,

The Plenti program will end on July 10, 2018. On that date, any unredeemed Plenti points will expire. You should use your Plenti points by July 10, 2018.

Here are a few important things you should know:

    Earning Plenti Points

You can continue to earn points on eligible purchases at participating Exxon and Mobile gas stations and BI-LO, Fresco y Más, Harveys, and Winn-Dixie supermarkets through July 10th.

    Using Plenti Points

You can use points for savings on eligible purchases at Macy’s and participating Chili’s restaurants through May 3, 2018.

You can also use points for savings on eligible purchases at participating Exxon and Mobile gas stations, Rite Aid stores and BI-LO, Fresco y Más, Harveys and Winn-Dixie supermarkets through July 10, 2018.

As always, you need to complete enrollment in Plenti and have at least 200 points to use points for savings.

    New Loyalty Program Points

Exxon and Mobil, and BI-LO, Winn-Dixie, Harveys and Fresco y Más are planing to enroll Plenti members who enrolled in Plenti through them or who have earned or redeemed points with them since July 10, 2017 in their new independently run loyalty programs.

They will replace, at a minimum, any unredeemed Plenti points earned at their respective locations between May 10, 2018 and July 10, 2018 with new points in their new programs. The issuance of replacement points may take two weeks or more once the Plenti program ends.

Exxon and Mobile and BI-LO, Winn-Dixie, Harveys and Fresco y Más and other Plenti partners, will provide more information about their new loyalty programs in the coming months.

If you have questions about Plenti ending, please see the FAQs.

Thank you for participating in Plenti.

The answer to your questions are yes and yes. BonusCash is now working just like Plenti points. BonusCash now will even cover sales tax as Plenti points did. Unlike Plwnti points, BonusCash can even be used when the total is less than $2. Although online you can’t see how much BC you have in your wallet, on your receipt it will print how much BC you earned, used, as well as how much you have left, just as Plenti points did. Evidently they are converting accounts over to the wallet in batches, so your account may or may not have a wallet yet.

I am a little unclear about when or if the combined BonusCash balance expires. If anyone knows, please advise.

Plenti points cannot be used to buy gift cards, so that plan wouldn’t have worked even if Exxon sold gift cards.

  • Didn’t work for me. Tried to buy the 3 candies for $2 with $2 BC back deal with $3 BC. The register didn’t use my BC for the trans. I backed it out to will try it another day.

I believe the system keeps track of individual expiration dates for each BC. The frustrating part is there is no way I know of to check online the different individual bonus cash awards you have and their various expiration dates. It requires a call to customer service.

Yes, unfortunately there is still no way for you to check the expiration date of your BC online. The only way to check is to call or chat with Rite Aid customer service and they can tell you. It makes me wonder if customer service can tell you why can’t they make that information available so we can check on our own online? The only reason I can think of is it’s a business decision. Rite Aid doesn’t want you to know when it expires in the hopes you will either shop more in fear that it will expire or actually hoping by not letting you look it up that it will expire on you.

Bonus Cash will have a 30 day expiration effective July 27, 2019.

Riteaid Wellness + Bonus Cash to expire in 30 days instead of 60 days effective 7/27/19.
    Confirmed by a RA representative:

Yes, our Wellness+ Bonus Cash expiration dates will be changing from 60 days to 30 days. This will occur on Saturday, 7/27/19.

ETA: Sales flyer for week of 7/28/19 indicates in fine print, at the bottom of page 1, that BC expires in 30 days.

Just an fyi, RA has new system update starting tomorrow. Please be patient.

Something about BC earned from the return being deducted and if that BC had already been spent, we could get negative balance? And also refunded BCs from returns not showing up right away? They are saying this is the “new system” but this isn’t the case yet for my area and I made a return a few days ago.

  • Global Moderator

Here are the new terms once your area gets the update:

If you void a purchase or return your purchase, Rite Aid will deduct the BonusCash that was awarded for that purchase from your wellness+ account. If you have already redeemed that BonusCash, this could potentially result in a negative BonusCash balance in your account, which you may restore by purchases of other qualifying merchandise.

With the new system you have to call them 24 hrs or more after your return (you must keep the return receipt and give them the trans number other wise the receipt doesn’t even show up on your account, that’s the problem) , and they put the bc back on your account that you used to purchase said return.

I also noticed the other day when I did a return the Wellness points I earned were subtracted from my Wellness points total. That never used to be the case.

    2020 Wellness+ Program Changes

This doesn’t pertain to Bonus Cash, but it is a significant change on how you can earn status level discounts at Rite Aid starting 1/1/20. I just saw online at the Rite Aid website that they are tweaking how you can earn Wellness status levels starting 1/1/20. It said earn points between 1/1 - 6/30 and save immediately through 12/31. Since they are using a six month period to determine your eligibility now they have made Gold status only 500 points and Silver status only 250 points starting 1/1. Points will be reset to zero (0) on January 1 and July 1 of each calendar year. Your wellness+ status (Silver or Gold) carries over through the end of the following 6-month period.

I emailed RA asking if they will be extending BC expiration dates due to the pandemic like some other retailers. I haven’t received a response but noticed this morning it has been extended by 30 days.

Check your accounts–Bonus Cash expirations have changed. Looks like they have gone back to the 60 day expiration dates.

If you download the mobile app you can view when you earned all of your bonus cash and see when it expires. The app doesn’t list an exact date, but it tells you how many more days you have to left to use it.

I see online it says “from now until the end of April, your BonusCash redemption period is extended to 60 days.” So I guess starting with purchases May 1, 2020, the redemption period will revert back to 30 days/
