STAPLES REWARDS: No Longer Expire (YMMV -see post)
-
I was at Staples tonight (Philadelphia area) and was informed by the Manager on Duty that they are now accepting expired Staples Rewards certificates as long as they haven’t been previously redeemed.
I pressed him for how long past expiration, he said it is at the discretion of the store manager, but in his case he said up to two years, he didn’t care, but he said some may limit to 6 months past expiry.
This is going to require some fact finding on all your parts, as it may vary store by store, but start asking around. If so, this means you’ll be able to bank multiple certs. to make a larger purchase like a laptop or iPAD.
I have not yet tried to use an expired (but unused) rewards voucher at this store so not sure how it works, but according to this manager, they have a way to pull it up and use it in the system as long as the certificate wasn’t previously redeemed.
As you find out info, please add to this thread and keep in mind this will be very helpful at Black Friday/holiday sales. Much nicer to have $120 in certs than $40 to use. (3 months worth banked from now to then)

After giving me credit for only 10 cartridges when I turned in 20 cartridges as a Premier member, and the delay in issuing the August rewards, I have less and less confidence in the Staples Rewards program.
-
@c3 Yeah I know. It’s almost as if the Rewards part was being run by a separate company or something. I’m still waiting to see any of my rewards or purchases from this month to show up.

@c3 always be sure to get a paper receipt and check that you were properly credited. it shows the # of carts turned in on the receipt at the store. if it’s off, you can have it corrected then and there. that’s definitely a cashier input error.

My rewards account says: recycled 20, rewarded 10. I’m waiting for the actual reward coupon before I complain.

I haven’t even stepped foot in a Staples store for several months. They are becoming more and more irrelevant to me.

Staples is probably relieved as they’re saving money.
OP: Next trip to Staples I’ll ask the store manager about this and post here.

@c3 sounds like they dropped you out of premier status.
-
@mistercheap that wouldn’t happen mid-year.

typically not, but if it does show he recycled 20, but only got rewards for 10, it does sound like they changed his status for some reason (or glitch). only thing that makes sense really, wasn’t the store’s doing.

It doesn’t say how many you were rewarded for on the receipt. I think it does say something like limit 10, but we know it doesn’t apply to premier.

My rewards account still says premier. I have the Staples More card, but I don’t know if that was ever properly linked to my rewards account.

@dangeRuss it does show the count how many you’ve turned in. and that’s what you need to verify before leaving the store. I once had a cashier who credited me for ONE cartridge when I turned in 20. were probably new and didn’t know you had to enter a quantity. Had to fight it out with Staples Rewards to get the 20 and they took my word due to my history of recycling 20 per month for years. (made no sense). Since then I always make sure I check the receipt, and get a PAPER and e-mail receipt. I don’t want to wait til I can check it on my phone or get home to read the email receipt.
-
@mistercheap Yea, for sure you need to check how many the cashier said you’ve turned it, I’ve had issues with that myself a few times. What I mean is it won’t tell you how many you’re actually going to get credit for (but I do think the actual verbiage says something like limit 10)

I was dropped this time of last year, and how i found out was exactly like him - recycled 20 and received credit for 10. So i called them and was told my membership changed. So yes, that do happen mid-year.

why did they drop you mid-year? You should have earned Premier for the year. Had you not earned Premier and they finally figured it out?

The Premier upgrade is no longer based on the calendar year. This was changed a while ago.

That’s what they told me - policy change. I didn’t ask for more detail as for 1, i never really understood their policy; 2, i was tired of having to follow up with multiple calls or emails every month to ensure they received/recorded my mail-in cartridges correctly and give me the rewards. I now no longer recycle with them. Feel like huge weight off my shoulder!

BTW, staples.com no longer price-matches.
