Neither of our nearby Sears/Kmart are closing but they might as well.
Empty shelves in some departments for months now.
-
Thanks for the list. Happy to see that we still haven’t made the cut.
I saw a list of stores that Eddie proposed to keep and mine was on that list.
IDK what that means if anything.

@mistercheap Thanks for the list. Sadly, my local Sears store is on it.
On the plus side, my garage is pretty well stocked with a variety of tools now.
End of an era regarding kickass deals, imo.

The time is finally up for the Kmart near me. Sears still hanging in there.

I think the whole operation is toast. Truly sad, loved KMart in their heyday, far better than I’ve ever liked Walmart.
To see Sears go under is like watching a piece of America die. they were the cornerstone of American retailing for over 100 years.
-
The last Sears anywhere near me is closing - of all places, the Mall of America!
-
The Sears website is showing that the Ridgedale and Rice Street locations are still open, @mom2jel…for the time being…
I remember carefully studying the Sears Christmas catalogs as a child to inspire my letters to Santa…an absolute dream book…
-
@kohlspowrshopper I suspect the rent at Ridgedale is a lot cheaper than the rent at MOA. Certainly cheaper on Rice Street.
I remember when MOA opened. It used to be my closest shopping center but got to the point that I only went to the anchors, rarely shopped the rest of the mall.
-
I spent many a weekend at the Ridgedale Mall when I was young. Is Dayton’s not around anymore? I remember Dayton’s, Donaldson’s (which became Carson’s), Sears, and JCP.
-
If I recall correctly, @briarycliffs, Dayton’s department stores became Marshall Fields, then Macy’s; while Donaldson’s rebranded as Carson Pirie Scott—which led to its quick demise—and soon after sold its stores to Dayton’s, which re-opened them as Mervyn’s of California, then Herberger’s…
The only Dayton-Hudson store that survived was Target…and store T1 from 1962 is alive and well (remodeled as a SuperTarget), due to Target’s ability to change with the times…
JCPenney has been struggling for a while, but its latest transformation, which seems to be modeled after Kohl’s, seems to be surviving…
With Sears now on the way out, it will be interesting to see who the new anchor stores will be, or if malls will have to reinvent themselves in order to survive…
-
I found an article from mid-October announcing the closure of the Ridgedale and Rice Street stores, so, it looks like just the Sears appliance store and small Hometown Stores on the extreme outskirts of the Twin Cities metro area will be left for @mom2jel to shop at…for the moment…
I can’t even begin to imagine what $$$$$ rents the MOA commands, @my4mainecoons; however, with over a million shoppers crossing its threshold every year, I can well imagine that there are a lot of major stores salivating at the prospect of taking over the prime real estate now occupied by Sears…
