Just last week, CVS announced that customers can now enroll in its first paid membership rewards program online or at participating CVS Pharmacy locations nationwide.

Called CarePass, the new program costs $5/month to join (or just $4/month when you pay the discounted annual fee of $48/year upfront. One of the key perks of membership is you get a free $10 Extrabucks rewarded loaded to your card each month you are a paid member.

CarePass members enjoy the following benefits:

Free delivery on qualifying prescriptions (no minimum required)
Free delivery on eligible CVS.com purchases (no minimum required)
Access to a 24/7 pharmacist helpline
20% discount on CVS Health Brand items both in-store and online
monthly $10 promotional reward loaded to your ExtraCare card – AWESOME PERK!

That’s right – pay $48 over the course of a year to join CarePass, and you’ll receive $120 back in ExtraCare Bucks over the entire year! If you regularly shop the sales at CVS, joining CarePass seems like a no-brainer!

CarePass members also enjoy a variety of surprise offers and bonus perks throughout the year. As an example, members recently received free sports physicals at local MinuteClinics.

To enroll online, go to cvs.com/carepass or you can enroll in store.
There are also a FAQ section about Carepass at the above link.

I actually did a CVS survey about this several months ago when they were seeking input as to what people would most like - i.e. if we offered this, would you sign up - definitely, maybe, neutral, probably not, definitely not. I said definitely not or probably not to almost everything except joining for $5 or less a month and getting $10 free CVS Extrabucks each month. I’m delighted they listened to the survey responses and to customers. 🙂

  • If you do this in store, rather than on line, your cashier gets some type of ‘incentive’.

Thanks for the info. The cashiers at my CVS are really nice, so I’ll make sure I sign up in store and not online. 🙂

    FYI,

Have seen a promo at my pharmacy counter in store to get the first month FREE. But that my only apply if you pay monthly vs the yearly option.

Need to read up on the offer more next time I’m there.

Also, I’m wondering if they will offer an extra incentive to join this around Black Friday, as CVS typically offers FS no minimum for a stretch around the holidays.

  • I was invited to sign up for this a few months ago. In addition to the $10/month, I was also sent two 5 minute surveys that gave me an additional $10 each. Great deal.

  • Did mine today with a very pleased store manager.

  • Most of the things at CVS are marked up almost double that of a dollar tree or 99 cents only store. How are the bucks most efficiently used - prescription copays?

They can’t be used on RX co-pays.

Best use would be the following:

“roll” them on other deals which give ‘new’ extra bucks after paying with extra bucks (sometimes there are MM deals on things like make up and HBA stuff)

Grocery deals where the sale prices are similar to supermarket (ie, soda, nuts, tuna fish, bottled water, etc)

after holiday clearance deals (Halloween, Xmas, etc)

    Candy deals at Halloween (trick/treat)

check the deal boards for CVS on an ongoing basis for what the hot deals are week to week.

There s’b many ways in a 30 days period you can spend each $10 and get your money’s worth on what you buy w/o overspending.

  • Just as a datapoint to anyone that signs up for CarePass—( loving CarePass so far, btw) – just wanted to pass this along:

After your first/inital $10 Extra Care Bucks Reward for CarePass is loaded to your card, your subsequent “monthly” $10 Extra Care Bucks certificate is loaded to your card not at the beginning of the month, approximately one month after your sign up anniversary. They load it on the Sunday of that monthly anniversary.

So for example, if you signed up initially on August 28, 2019, 30 days would hit on September 27, 2019— however, CVS loads the $10 in ECB’s it on the Sunday of that week-- since Sunday is the first day of the Calendar Week, CVS would load the $10 in ECB’s on your Extra Care card on September 22, 2019.

    HTH

  • @mistercheap There are 2 options when signing up: pay for the whole year up front for $48 or pay monthly and get the first month free. I opted to pay upfront for the year so it is costing me $4 per month, get $10 per month in EBs, so a $6 money maker each month.

yeah, entirely up to each person. agree the year option is the better MM, but some way wish to try out the program first before committing to a year’s sub.
