For the curious, this is apparently a garage door opener.

No, a control panel for a garage door opener.

Good clarification. I was referring to title ie Liftmaster. Not sure how the average bear would know what that is… 🙂

  • These are replacements for the door control units that came with these openers (think replacement button inside the garage). I have 3 of these openers, and while mine have been okay, many people have had the control panel burn out and/or randomly open the door.

This can replace the wall controller for the Liftmaster/Chamberlain openers made in the last 20 years or so (since 1998 with red/purple “learn” button on the opener itself). As far as I know, its only compatible with these openers, and not with any other brands/models…

@high-technology These are IoT units, right? I bet there’s a default password in there somewhere and random people are just connecting from the internet and messing with the units.

  • I had my unit burn out last year. At 6am last Jan my garage randomly opened and then wouldn’t close with a button push. I replaced my unit back then but I did see the reviews of the occasional fail similar to mine. A few people even had stuff stolen because of this. I looked for an alternative but had a hard time finding one w/o a 1 star reviews that mentioned the same thing. I figured I would just replace my unit every 3 years to try to prevent this problem. I wonder if this offer is a response to a class action lawsuit?

  • @mrsguin You’ll need a valid credit card to checkout with for verification or it won’t let you continue checking-out to get to the next 5th step of review before submitting

  • They do require cc but don’t appear to have submitted an authorization on mine for the replacement. It just seems that they programmed to assume some payment will be due so they check the card number for validity (there are some checksums in the various card numbers they can test without submitting for authorization).

  • I’m also getting the 404 error so manually went into liftmaster.com and searched for the product model number. I found this:
    888LM Quality Program:
*We have resolved the loss of function affecting some of our LiftMaster 888LM Control Panels. These units were packed in with garage door opener models 8500 and 8500C, and/or sold as an accessory, such as MYQPCK.

While the incidents of improperly functioning units are low, we are extending the warranty for affected customers until September 2023.*

For any customer who wishes to receive a replacement 888LM Control Panel for free, please use the following link to complete the form: Request Replacement 888LM.
The link mentioned above generates the same error.
I suspect if/when they fix the link folks will need to contact the company directly. Perhaps they received more requests than actual product ever sold. A derivative of the old “Fat Wallet Forum” effect.
