Amazon to spend $800 million this quarter to make free one-day shipping the default for Prime members

Coolness. Thanks, Amazon.

Most other online retailers are complaining about the dramatic increases in shipping rates but Amazon is giving it away free? I guess you can afford to do that when you underpay your employees, pay $0 in taxes, and coerce several cities to give you over two billion dollars worth of incentives to open a satellite headquarter office there. More realistically, this sounds like a precursor/justification for an increase in membership fees. I’d rather they reduce the membership fee back to a reasonable rate and actually get all of my packages to me in 2 days like they used to do. At least let folks pay less if they don’t want all of the extras forced on us like Prime Video/TV, Prime Music, Prime Reading/Kindle books, etc.

this is great!

2 day is fine for me but I know a lot of people will be excited. I would rather a reduction in membership fee also. Maybe they could do 2-day shipping on 1 “amazon day” per week and charge half-price. I would be all over that.
