Because most free stuff items are inexpensive odds and ends (samples of products, recipes, bumper stickers, etc) when a free item would otherwise cost you above $10 to purchase it, it has always been a hot deal post (this is a carry over from the Fat Wallet posting policy) such that it gets more visibility on the site as most people check HD and not always free stuff.
Common examples are photo gifts like this, software downloads that are worth $40, magazine subscription valued at $10 or more, free TV show or movie downloads with $10 value up. etc.

That’s not a valid reason to put it there. just as many keep up on the HD posts.
Best suggestion is to ‘follow’ the posters, such as @MrsGuin , @ctgolfer , etc who tend to contribute the best free stuff deals, that way no matter which thread area their post is made in, you get the notification of their latest posts.

@mrsguin It worked right from my computer. You do have to have an account, but I don’t have the app, and I got mine.
