If any one else has IHG hotel points soon expiring I found an easy way to extend their validity for another year. You can get e-books with your hotel points. I found some e-books are priced as cheaply as 150 IHG points. That is an easy way to have activity in your account and keep your points active, extending the validity for another year.

I’ve had success extending my IHG points for another year by booking a room about a month out and then cancelling about two weeks before the reservation date. They’ve given me my points back and extended the expiration. YMMV
