checkout51 terms of service update - 180 days of inactivity will charge $3.99 monthly against account balance

They linked to the new terms of service update in an email. I guess they didn’t want to highlight this in the actual email.
Account Management Fee
There are costs associated with the creation and management of the Services, and those costs are covered by the fees Checkout 51 earns when you redeem Claimed Offers. Therefore, if you redeem at least one Claimed Offer during the prior 180 days (one year for residents of Quebec), your account will not be assessed any Account Management Fee (as defined below). If, however, you do not redeem at least one Claimed Offer during any 180 day period (one year for residents of Quebec), Checkout 51 will deduct from your Cash Back Credits, on a monthly basis, the lesser of (i) $3.99, or (ii) the amount of your Cash Back Credits (in either case, an “Account Management Fee”). No Account Management Fees will be charged or deducted during the first six months (one year for residents of Quebec) after you initially register for the Services. Checkout 51 will attempt to notify you by email to the address in your Registration Data before any Account Management Fee is deducted from your Cash Back Credit. Subject to Checkout 51’s right to terminate your account under these Terms, Checkout 51 will stop deducting the Account Management Fee from your Cash Back Credits for six months (one year for residents of Quebec) if you redeem at least one Claimed Offer. Under no circumstances will you ever pay an Account Management Fee with anything other than amounts of your Cash Back Credits — we will never ask you to make a payment for Account Management Fees with credit or debit cards, checks or cash. If your Cash Back Credit balance reaches $0.00, your balance will remain at that amount until you earn more Cash Back Credit or your account is terminated in accordance with these Terms.

This isn’t new. iBotta has an inactivity fee as well. I just cashed out CO51 and then I’m going to close the account. IDK what TADA is going to be but there hasn’t been anything worth doing on CO51 since Q.com bought SavingStar.

It used to be $2 monthly after 21 months of inactivity. Then I think they changed it to one year. Now it is 6 months.

@my4mainecoons I wouldn’t close it out. Why? Keep your options open. At times they’ve had offers that are limit 5 that make for MM’s at various stores. I’m sure even watching one of those 3c videos ‘counts’ as an offer, so complying with the 6 months rule isn’t that hard. As soon as you hit $20 at any given time, cash it out in case you hit a dry spell. But I can’t possibly see any upside to closing it altogether.

@mistercheap I last redeemed an offer (watched a video) 5 months ago. The time before that was 7 months ago, again a video. Its not worth my time to watch videos for 3¢. IDK what TADA will involve but if they become more like iBotta then I’m even more uninterested. I do something every 6 months to keep iBotta active but I can’t be bothered to keep CO51. Just received my $68.25 payout.

Your choice of course.

I plan on keeping my two CO51 accounts. I don’t think it’s asking too much to do a rebate offer at least once every 180 days.
-
@mrvietnam I can just see myself forgetting to do it and being very unhappy at being charged $3.99.

After you do a rebate you can schedule on your online calendar (I use the free calendar in Hotmail) to remind you a month before the 180 day mark.

Thanks for heads up bc I’d be super mad if I got charged the inactive fee. I agree that there hasn’t been much worthwhile offers except once it a blue moon. Might as well cash out 1 of 2 account.

I finally ran into this because of the lack of appealing offers (to me) or video watching for pennies offers.
Checkout51 will send you a heads up email and you have 30 days to redeem a new offer or watch your balance evaporate.
-
They must not have been enforcing this before because I went 18 months between offers and that was actually a rejected offer. I did redeem an offer 3 months ago, but there are so few items on here, that’s it’s difficult for me to use it. I only have $3.72 in the app so if they start taking $4, I’m done and deleting the app.

what’s amazing is, this is the app Shopmium sent its former users to as a ‘great replacement’. Luckily I did redeem an offer last month on CO51, not sure where I’m at towards $20 to cash out again, but it’s been, on average, taking a FULL YEAR to hit $20 to cash out which is a joke. Compare that to IBOTTA where I routinely have $20 each month to cash out. Not only that, the offers seem to get ‘depleted’ on CO51 far faster than any other coupon app I’ve ever used.
