RE: Avis rental car - authorization amount on credit
The most my cc has been hit is 10% more than the amount of the rental reservation, which I presume is for a full tank of gas.

RE: AmEx Offer: Spend $99+ On Amazon Prime Membership & Receive 5,000 Membership Rewards
Good question, @jeffd. I’ve only got Amex blues, so don’t know the value of Membership Points. I wait for the $79 deal on prime, usually around the Emmy awards, but might break out my unused green card if 5k membership pts is worth the effort. OTOH, I don’t want to encourage BezoBozo to keep the $99 price. He, or someone he trusts is obviously a numbers guy, as they have already folded on the free shipping amount.

And it’s still up, but I can’t wait much longer. I’ll have a sip of an adult beverage to toast their demise.

I got a cancellation, but their reason was that the pickup location no longer had stock.

Get daily Dark Web Internet Surveillance from Experian ($10/month)
OMG, Ron Popeil might blush at that. Ignore the chutzpah of charging, and just think about “Get daily dark web internet surveillance”. I’ve heard that the population is getting too lazy to think, but really? It’s Experian, Equifax, Transuntion, etal that we need to surveil. I wish we could just lock them in the dungeon?

RE: **Resolved** 2mb photo limit
If it does auto resize, I think 2MB is more than enough … unless your reading PWFwith a PETScan monitor.

@mistercheap They didn’t even ask for a cc. At least that part of their cart logic is impressive.

I agree. Now I have figure out how to get a virtual cc.
When you’re looking for a source, you may want to confirm that the virtual cc is good for one, and only one, use.

RE: Best Safe Way To Pay Google Play
@meed18 I understand that they are both behemoths, but I believe that Amazon would sell their non-existent soul for the data hooks that Google has.
Yes, Amazon knows some of what I occasionally purchase, but they don’t know too much about the places that I digitally surf, nor anything about the places where I physically surf, nor where I might have an adult beverage.
Google knows all of those things, and even if they say they don’t collect anything personally identifiable, they collect enough info that, tied together, identifies me perfectly.
If I were younger, or had a better memory, I might lose sleep over it.

RE: Best Safe Way To Pay Google Play
If I understand the question, in order of safety
- Never provide your cc or bank info to Google
- Provide Google with a rebate or gift card number
- Use a virtual cc number
FYI, in a moment of insanity, I used Google Checkout many years ago when they were offering all sorts of discounts and never suffered any ill effects … other than a sore backside from the many times I kicked myself for trading my info for a handful of silver.

Limit 1 statement credit(s) per American Express® online account.
The way that a M-F Amex rep explained it to me – just make sure that you have an online account for each card. I’ve gotten the boxed.com and Martha Stewart wine offers on multiple cards, and have received the credit on each of them.

RE: CCleaner hacked with malware
@fivetalents said in CCleaner hacked with malware:
In a blog post by vice president of products Paul Yung, he states that the company identified the attack on Sept. 12 and had taken the appropriate action even before Cisco Talos notified them of their discovery. Yung says the attack was limited to CCleaner and CCleaner Cloud on 32-bit Windows systems—fortunately, most modern PCs will likely be running the 64-bit version.
Sounds like Mr. Yung is ready for politics.
Wouldn’t part of the “appropriate action” be to announce the hack?
Of course, in the same breath we can say that we don’t care about non-modern PCs … and make that sound like a positive. Sheesh. -

Yikes! NY and premium gas - deadly combo … guess it could be Cali or Canada.
With that much weight on the tires, the roads probably don’t feel quite so bad. -

What a treasure of Amazon info. Not sure how I missed it at FW. Thanks for posting it here.

RE: Official Crown Vic Thread
@barrytuneup Congrats on your Grand Marquis. You’ll get a little longer age out of your tires if they are occasionally used. A mile or two every couple of weeks is better than none. Also, if you ever have to leave it parked outside for a long period, put some tire covers on them.
