RE: How to buy used/pre-owned car, PWF/FWF style
I bought a used car from a dealer that was listed below book value, because it wasn’t the kind of car the dealer sold, and they wanted it off the lot to make room for something else. They would buy lots of autos from auctions, most of them are stuff they sell, but sometimes there’s something that’s the odd man out, and they’d sell it below book value to get it off their lot. I found a coupon in the local advertising circular (Penny Saver) for $250 off any used car from the dealer. Went to look at the car, liked it, negotiated trade in, and after the price was calculated after trade-in value, I presented the coupon. The sales guy said, “Oh, you’re a smart one! Most people hand that to us right up front, then we negotiate trade in. But we already agreed on trade in, so you get the coupon on top of the trade-in value because you are so smart.” Basically, the trade-in they offer is less if you use the coupon. It didn’t say anywhere that they do this on the coupon, but apparently they do. I drove home a car that was nearly a $1000 below book value, and 6 years old. I drove that car for almost 12 years, and the only major fix was the timing belt. And even that I saved on, found the belt on eBay, and took it to the local mechanic, who said he couldn’t have bought that wholesale, for the price I paid on eBay. It was OEM too. Sold the car to a college kid (Sis’s BF’s nephew), who drove it another 6 years. Sooooo… see if the dealer has any coupons in any newspapers or advertising circulars, and read the wording on it (fine print). If it doesn’t say you have to present it up front, wait until after you’ve negotiated price minus any trade-in. Because I strongly suspect that many dealers reduce trade-in value if you present a discount coupon, and most people probably do present the coupon up front.

RE: Free Relax Essential Oil Sample
@ruthie I just tried it using a fake info, and you are correct. This has all the hallmarks of a fake offer on a page that was inserted by a hacker. Plus, there’s no link to this offer on any other page on the website. This is not the first time we’ve seen these spa freebie pages where the freebie page was a hack. Several are on the Fake Freebie List. The 3rd party website is classic MLM scam, which is never a good sign.
-
RE: Fake Freebies
Free Relax Essential Oil Sample from favospa dot com is a website hack. Leads to classic 3rd party MLM scam after submission, like all the previous hacks. Local Spas don’t mail this stuff to people all over the country, they hand them out to visitors. This is probably the same scammers responsible for previous spa freebies. They get found out, and they find another spa page to hack. Then send shills to post on select freebie boards. Wash, rinse, repeat.

RE: FREE Watermelon Coloring Books, Posters, Stickers & More
@tuskers She’s not being negative, she’s stating that there isn’t a clear way to order, and you gave her a non-answer. It’s not clear on the website how to select quantities. I see what MrsG is describing. There is no way to select quantities of individual items. They are all currently set at “0”. If you click where your cursor switches from an arrow to a hand, nothing happens.
I tried fiddling around with it, because following your instructions to MrsG doesn’t. You either didn’t get what she was saying, or you didn’t do this, and don’t know. I figured it out, clicking the green box, that your cursor recognizes, doesn’t change quantities. But if you click and drag the green box to the right -> -> ->, the quantity changes, with up to 10 of each item you can request.
ETA: Some quantities are as much as 100 (mostly brochures). You’ll have to play around with sliding the green box.

Well, the Whois is solid. Nothing shady-looking there. And I see fivetalents provided multiple resources in links. This has been around, it was posted on FW in the thread about the Equifax breach in Finance. It’s a reputable website, but it’s always a good idea to check its Whois and it’s history & status via a Google/Bing search, when in doubt. The crooked scammer sites are usually dead giveaways, often by perusing their Whois alone.

RE: FREE Hello Sweet Mint or Activated Charcoal Toothpaste if chosen
@tuskers Is there a posting war as to who posts it 1st? Why does it matter who posted 1st?
I don’t check PWF as often as I do H4F, so I did this when I saw it there. On FW, 1st 100,000 or 1st 100k would typically be in the title, the inability to choose which would be in the body of the post. It’s about making informed posts. The point being made was about having needed info in the posts, not about who posted 1st.
The info comes straight from the sign-up page, “we’re giving away 100,000 samples of our awesome fluoride free toothpastes”, is right at the top of the form. At the bottom it says, “*please note we cannot guarantee which of the two products you will receive.”

RE: Free Montgomery Ward Holiday Catalog
@mrvietnam said in Free Montgomery Ward Holiday Catalog:
I didn’t even know they are still in business, They have all closed down long ago in my area.
This isn’t the same ‘Montgomery Ward’. They fully liquidated & closed down in 2001. Recognizing the value of the intellectual property (name, logo, & advertising value), Direct Marketing Services Inc (owner of many other mail order/online stores), purchased them & relaunched Wards online & through catalogs. In 2008, Swiss Colony bought Wards & the others, and renamed them Colony Brands. It is a new and completely different company than the original Wards. It’s just using the Wards name/logo.

RE: FREE 14-Day Sample of L’Oreal Revitalift Triple Power Moisturizer
This is still available, got mine from a post on a different forum. It’s a sheet of 14 small sachets/packets, just tear off one to use.
ETA: The packets appear to have enough in them for at least 2 applications, so you could get 28 days of use out of these.

RE: FREE Lean Java Bean Sample
It’s on the Fake Freebies List. “The folks that run the freecoffeeoffer.com scam page are back with a clone at a new URL, tryvitae.com. Neither are legit. ETA 9/23/2017: And theirrrrrr baaaaaack! Another shill posting, another link for free coffee from Vitae. Same scam, different URL. Slimroasttrial.com.”
The scammers keep changing the URL, then send their shills to post it. And unless the OP posted this here, she just c&p misinformation from another freebie site.
Some other URL’s I found for this fake offer, tryleanjava.com/free-sample, freesampleofjavanow.com/
ANYTHING from Vitae coffee is FAKE, a scam, a freebie that does not exist. A real company wouldn’t need to keep creating multiple URL’s.

RE: Free Samples Lingzhi Rich Black Coffee, Latte & Royal Blend Tea
I knew there was something about this, but couldn’t recall what it was, had to find old FW threads (via Google/Bing cache or Wayback Machine). Linghzhi is a mushroom extract, added to tea & coffee in China, Japan, & Korea. The coffee sample is instant coffee granules to which the extract is added. You have to provide a phone number, to verify request. Company is a MLM company, so even if you are only interested in purchasing, and not distributing, expect to be hounded to earn money from sales. Once you submit, you are taken to other MLM companies. No one has reported receiving this, but it can take a few months to arrive, and many forums have already archived the post. Some forums have questioned this. It’s always a red flag when you can’t find a TOS/TOU, Privacy Policy and a physical address & phone # readily available on the website. Too many red flags to recommend anybody take a chance on this. This was flagged by FW as being questionable, in the past. Sign up at your own risk.

RE: Free Sample Bacon Wrapping Paper
This isn’t really a ‘sample’, it’s a promotional item. ‘Sample’ implies a ‘try before you buy’ item, which many products do to encourage purchase of the item, if you like it. A promotional item is used to promote a brand/product. In this case, it’s the National Pork Board promoting pork consumption. Delete the word ‘sample’ from title, it doesn’t apply.

Curious where you got your information from @Tuskers.
They’ve been floating around various freebie boards for awhile. And, they are already in this thread further up, and rsuaver pointed out that the 1st 3 have already been posted (By MrsG), next 3 are expired. No need to post these yet again. At one point many found you could enter the last 3 again, even if you did before (this worked for me when this info was 1st posed on FW, I think 2 of the 3 worked). This is a very big YMMV. This was in the FW thread. The 1st 3 are the new users codes that can be used by those who signed up and haven’t used them.

RE: Free Sample Good Earth Loose Leaf Tea - First 35K
I attached a screenshot, I just scrolled down & saw the form on the page, see screenshot below.
This is what you should see. It’s about a 3rd way down the page.
Not sure why you are getting the message you are getting. Did you perhaps request a sample in the past? If so, you might be getting an old message stored in your browser’s cache. Try clearing your history & cookies (or at least any cookies with goodearth in them), and see if that fixes the problem.
You could also try a different browser, sometimes stuff works better in another browser.

RE: Please Read before posting
Please make sure your links work. Users shouldn’t be scrambling to find a working link on a competing site. Everyone should test their links after posting. And use the add-a-link function when providing real long links, they almost invariably break up.
Some sources don’t allow direct linking, so state that one must c&p the link, to get it to work.

how does boscov sell some of the la z boy recliners so much cheaper than the la z boy store? sometimes i wonder if they get “seconds”.
These are closeouts of remaining stock, they aren’t seconds. You are limited to the styles & colors in stock, which isn’t very many. I have one coming Tuesday next week. That’s what makes this such a good deal, can’t beat the price, if your aren’t picky about the limited colors choices for the models available. The quantity is limited to the remaining stock. Mine isn’t even coming from the Boscov’s near me, in Wilmington, DE. It’s actually coming from a New Jersey location, across the river from me.

RE: Get a $100 Kmart Gift Card for only $90 (Limit 2 Codes) - Email delivery by ppdg @ eBay
You can actually often find these cheaper by going to giftcardgranny.com, both Sears & Kmart (They’ve had $100 ones for $89.50, I bought 7, used them to buy my new fridge). Gift Card Zen typically has the lowest, Gift Card Bin is good too. Gift Card Granny lists all the different offers available from various sources, including eBay. Looks like there currently aren’t any cheaper than eBay - they do come up, but go very quickly. Unlike eBay’s limit of 2 codes, you can buy as many as you want from the discount GC vendors. I saved $18 on a Boscov’s $100 GC from Gift Card Bin. It’s always wise to check around, and see if you can get a GC cheaper elsewhere, which Gift Card Granny will help you do.

RE: Free Gillette Treo Assisted Shaving Razor
@sonofzeus said in Free Gillette Treo Assisted Shaving Razor:
I am neither disabled nor a caregiver.
Nevertheless, in 4 1.Don’t count on it coming. From bottom of form: “
While supplies last. By signing up, you are opting in to potentially receive a sample of two Gillette® TREO™ razors. Limit one sample per household; must be 18+ and a U.S. resident. Offer expires 11/30/2017 and is limited to 10,000 participants. Please understand that signing up does not guarantee that you will receive a product sample.”People should not abuse offers not intended for them, there is a reason why this is limited, it’s designed for caregivers who shave a client who cannot shave themselves. It’s oriented in a different way then regular shavers, because P&G/Gillette found that using traditional razors designed for shaving oneself, are awkward to use when shaving another person. They want caregivers to try these out, to see if they find these user-friendly when standard razors are not. They are not designed, and will not work properly, for self-shaving.
There’s a reason why they ask the questions they do, to determine that you are a caregiver. You don’t have to be disabled; your client is, the one you are a caregiver for. Therefore you had to be dishonest on the form, if you claimed to be a caregiver, if you are not. It isn’t 1st 10,000, it’s 10,000 out of all signups. Probably so they can weed out ineligible people such as yourself. Which they will probably do, in order to get this in the hands of caregivers of people with disabilities that need help with shaving.
This is a press release issued 2 days ago, Gillette Invites U.S. & UK Caregivers to Trial First Ever Assisted Shaving Razor
Please read the FAQ FrugalFreak posted, it’s the one that was used by FW, and I see FF kept the comment about ethics (“Ethics:
Free stuff is awesome, and seeking out free items is part of the fun. Receiving it is the other Part. Many free offers have B2B restrictions, Please give the offers some thought before applying for them. If you don’t qualify, don’t request. Leave the freebie for someone that is eligible.”). -
