@fivetalents https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.io .io is a top level domain, like .com. .org, etc. These were allowed on FW, so I assumed it was okay here. Fresh Step uses frsh.stp.io/stringofnumbers&letters & freshstep.com/nameofpage. This is different than link shortening services like TinyURL & Bit.ly

RE: Free Sample from Cantu Beauty Men’s Collection - Facebook
Link in post just took you to their FB page. Wasn’t sure if the problem was PW or FB that did that. Clicking on the actual FB post will give you a more direct route with a specific URL (that string of numbers at the end). FB has a habit of changing the order of posts, so even though the freebie may have been at the top, it got moved/changed by either FB or Cantu.
This is why it’s better to click on the offer, to open up a new page, and get a more direct link - avoids a problem if the order of posts (or highlighted ones) change. If you click on the post, and you see an URL in the address bar with that string of numbers at the end, you have a direct link to the post. c&p and you should be good to go. FB can be fickle.

Please use the add-a link-function (Linking chain symbol), instead of c&p long links in a post. They almost always break. It only takes a few seconds to use the add-a-link function. You can give it a name, or simply say something like “click here” or “link”.
Please note that @dangeRuss does not want links posted using the linking tool, but wants them copied and pasted to allow the auto-insertion of pictures and product/website blurbs to work. If copying and pasting is causing links to break, he definitely needs to look into that since he doesn’t want us to use the link tool for links to deals.
Not that I don’t want people using it, more of you should try it without using the link tool first and see if it gives a better experience. If the link by itself doesn’t provide a better experience (LInks with _ in them break for example), then by all means use the link tool. Or for any other reason. I just want people to be aware of the iframely plugin and that it will provide a better experience most of the time.
Thanks you for the clarification, as I was somewhat confused regarding the use of the add a link feature. That feature was used on FW, and I see it being used in HD by many. Wasn’t aware that c&p somehow allowed insertion of other content. I just add my own pics to posts I make using the picture or upload image tools.

@mistercheap I was wondering why it was moved to HD, though that wasn’t part of the discussion, so thanks for explaining that.

RE: Fake Freebies
en dot pkpmegatex dot com is a manufacturers website for dental equipment. They don’t make dental floss, and the free dental floss sample offer (Megatex) floating around the freebie boards is mentioned nowhere on their website. They also are a business selling supplies to another business, not consumers. This is obviously a website hack.

Why Won't Coupon Link Work? And Why Can't PDF's Be Added to Posts?
Just read this thread here, https://phatwalletforums.com/topic/3651/free-can-of-blue-buffalo-wet-dog-food-at-petsmart-petsmart-petperks-members-expires-1-12-18
The coupon shows up at SD & HTSFF when clicking their links. The link works fine there, but here it gives an invalid message. I was able to save it as PDF, but apparently you can’t post PDF’s here.
Maybe somebody can figure out what is preventing a link that works just fine elsewhere, from working here. And consider allowing PDF files (the original link is a PDF from an email link - maybe that’s why it won’t work???).
-
RE: Free Can of Blue Buffalo Wet Dog Food at Petsmart - Petsmart Petperks Members Expires 1/12/18
@my4mainecoons It was working, there was a coupon there to print. Tuskers original link took you to a blank page. Now I see this message, “The coupon code is not a valid PetSmart coupon”. And your link is showing the same message. The URL appears to be a link from an email, and maybe it was meant to only work from an email. I guess if you get emails from PetSmart, check to see if you got this, and try accessing it from there.
ETA: Went back to the source where I found the link, and when I click there, it shows the coupon. Trying something here, don’t know if it will work. When I go to my source, if I c&p from the address bar into a new tab, it shows the coupon. When I put the URL here, then c&p from here into a new tab, I get the blank page. When I first posted the link, the coupon showed, but now it doesn’t. Maybe this is something for the tech team to look at.
I was able to save it as a PDF, but this forum won’t allow PDF’s. It gives me some error message & says I don’t have enough privileges. <sigh>
-
RE: Please Read before posting
Please make sure your links work. Users shouldn’t be scrambling to find a working link on a competing site. Everyone should test their links after posting. And use the add-a-link function when providing real long links, they almost invariably break up.
Some sources don’t allow direct linking, so state that one must c&p the link, to get it to work.
-
RE: Free Can of Blue Buffalo Wet Dog Food at Petsmart - Petsmart Petperks Members Expires 1/12/18
Please use the add-a link-function (Linking chain symbol), instead of c&p long links in a post. They almost always break. It only takes a few seconds to use the add-a-link function. You can give it a name, or simply say something like “click here” or “link”.
ETA: Your link still didn’t work, I had to go find another. Can you please take the time to ensure that you have working links in your posts?

@mrvietnam said in Free Montgomery Ward Holiday Catalog:
I didn’t even know they are still in business, They have all closed down long ago in my area.
This isn’t the same ‘Montgomery Ward’. They fully liquidated & closed down in 2001. Recognizing the value of the intellectual property (name, logo, & advertising value), Direct Marketing Services Inc (owner of many other mail order/online stores), purchased them & relaunched Wards online & through catalogs. In 2008, Swiss Colony bought Wards & the others, and renamed them Colony Brands. It is a new and completely different company than the original Wards. It’s just using the Wards name/logo.

No More Exactly Free Sample Boxes
If you managed to get in on this when I posted it on FW, Exactly sent out announcements plus posted on FB today that they are ending the program.
“Hello!
We want to take this opportunity to thank you for being a trusted Exactly member.
As of 5 PM EST today the service will be shut down.
All your information will be deleted from our servers on or before December 1, 2017 at 11:59 PM EST.
Thank you for your support over the past year.
The Exactly Team”I wondered when the promised seasonal/quarterly boxes weren’t happening. Exactly has another program that is tied with vendors such as Amazon, where they send targeted samples with Amazon orders, based on order history. It looks like they are continuing that, but not the quarterly boxes. They barely lasted a year. I did like the purple box they sent me.

RE: Free Sample Bag Purity Organic Coffee
@mrsguin said in Free Sample Bag Purity Organic Coffee:
This is a free trial which means “Your $22 bimonthly shipment of a 12 oz bag will automatically start after two weeks, but if you wish to cancel, you can do so anytime.”
That’s correct. There are two different offers, as I stated above. The free trial is on the website, and OP’s link is redirecting to that. The sample offer has ended, according to both their FB & Twitter accounts. They stated that they will announce any future sample offers via social media. The current sampling off has ended, the supply was limited.

RE: Fake Freebies
This is the original FW wiki on spotting fake freebies that MumzOf2 & I provided information for. This is the reference referred to when someone ask how to recognize fakes from legitimate ones. As things change, I’ll update this wiki to keep it current.
How to spot a possible fake scamming, spam harvesting, phishing website.
This information is copied and pasted from another thread where the OP asked how to determine the validity of some of the questionable ones out there
SweetClover said:
Some tipoffs are how recent the site is, the fact that it isn’t affiliated with the manufacturer, that it adds weird disclaimers that basically absolve them of sending you anything, among other things. To further confirm my suspicions, I do a network ‘whois’ search. You will see others do this too, they use an online tool that allows them to research the domain. Here are a few I use, the first I have had/used the longest.Domain Dossier
This is an oldie but goody, been on the net as long as I (1998), and offers several type of domain lookups. I recommend checking the domain & network whois boxes (the two on the left).ARIN WhoisNo longer active. All Nettools Smart Whois Lots of great tools here, the SmartWhois will give you info about the domain & network.
With any of the above, enter the IP address of the offer in the dialogue box, and click submit. You get a complete history of the domain, who created it, when it was created, the server hosting it. Anything new with 1 year or less licenses is most likely a fraud, intended to harvest for spam, or phish for information. Other signs are who is hosting the domain, and who is the registrant. Common sources such as HostGator, GoDaddy & DomainsByProxy are commonly used. Images are frequently hosted on a Cloudfront server. Images are often stock images manipulated in photoshop to add custom logo’s.
There are a lot of bogus offers being put up on the intrawebs lately, obviously intended to sucker in the clueless with a freebie. Chances are, if it’s not the manufacturer, or a reputable company authorized by the manufacturer (Like WalMart, StartSampling, etc.), it’s a fake offer.
MumzOf2 said:
(username removed), after a while you’ll know a bad site just by looking at it and it will prompt you to look up the domain. I can’t explain it, but the site will just have a look to it. Google ADS…if it’s a site only a few days old usually by weeks end it will be full of Google Ad Sense, a full size product too good to be true type of thing, the graphics, etc… Plus at the bottom of the page it will say not endorsed by such and such company like one other member mentioned. Some bad phishing sites are better at making their site look more professional, but usually a few links will always be “under construction.”
SweetClover said:
And to add, if you have any doubt, those Whois domain searches will give you lots of clues. I keep them bookmarked, so I have access to them at any given time. MumzOf2 is right, the site will just look ‘off’ for some reason, usually cheap layout, and such. A legitimate site will have a professional layout to it. These phishing/scamming/spamming sites, all are very amateurish looking. Some of these have been around for years, though, so sometimes you only find out by experience. KCWEB is an example of this. They’ve been scamming and spamming since I went online 10 years ago.More info: If you don’t see the offer on the website elsewhere, that indicates a possible hack. So the next step is to see if the company uses social media, and was this an offer exclusive to their social media accounts. If found on social media, that legitimizes the post. The social media account from which the the offer was posted, belongs in the OP.
Post your link, then go to the link, then check the homepage for a freebie link. None there? Try the main product page (because sometimes it’s there instead). Still nothing? It’s either a) a hack, or b) it’s source is elsewhere. Next step, check social media accounts linked on website. Is it posted on the official FB, Twitter, other social media account? If yes, that’s your source. Go back, edit your OP, and show the social media account where the offer originated. If no, there’s a very good chance the freebie page is a fake inserted by a hacker. In that case, edit OP and indicate that offer may not be legitimate, and possible fake, because you couldn’t find a legitimate source for it on the website, or social media.
It’s important to have sources for freebie links, to verify their authenticity. Scammers count on lack of knowledge & info to take advantage of unsuspecting freebie hunters, and getting them to freely give their NAZ, email & sometimes phone #'s. They then sell this to list aggregators, who then sell the lists.

RE: Possible FREE Muse Grain-Free Cat Food Sample
Surprise, surprise! Actually finally got something from these people. A box came with two Muse samples today. There was a can of Muse food (same size as Fancy Feast can), and an itty bitty bag of kibble.
I’ve been on the fence about Skosay, I’ve applied for previous samples and received nothing. I can now happily say that sometimes you get a sample.
PS I was never notified, it just showed up in the mail today. Couldn’t recall signing up, and then saw ‘Skosay’ on the box. Lacie will love the freebies.

RE: Earn 10% eBay Bucks on $50 or More YMMV
@kohlspowrshopper I never get these, and when it came to where to make a recent purchase of items, ebay or Amazon, Amazon got the purchase this time. Usually it’s eBay because I get eBay bucks and cashback fro BeFrugal or eBates.
Whatever algorithm eBay is using, frustrated users getting overlooked are going to go elsewhere - instead of using eBay. I really hate the games being played at times.
From that link you posted about theories, “Readers suggest that accounts which are active in that you make purchases, earn eBay Bucks and generally browse the eBay site, are more likely to get targeted.” Well… I can flat out confirm that is false, as I am active. make purchases, earn eBay Bucks, but no love from eBay. I’m a long time user of eBay too, I sometimes got the PayPal offers when PayPal was joined at the hip with eBay.
Maybe if I send a nastygram to eBay saying I’m about to take my $$$ elsewhere because I, as a long-time eBay user, am overlooked repeatedly for these targeted offers. After all, the idea is to get more people spending money there, correct? Should either relax the criteria, or just offer it to everybody.

RE: Free Sample Good Earth Loose Leaf Tea - First 35K
I attached a screenshot, I just scrolled down & saw the form on the page, see screenshot below.
This is what you should see. It’s about a 3rd way down the page.
Not sure why you are getting the message you are getting. Did you perhaps request a sample in the past? If so, you might be getting an old message stored in your browser’s cache. Try clearing your history & cookies (or at least any cookies with goodearth in them), and see if that fixes the problem.
You could also try a different browser, sometimes stuff works better in another browser.

@tuskers said in Free Sample Bag Purity Organic Coffee:
Just so I understand , you agree this is legit right?
Absolutely! As I stated directly above your posted question, “In this case, the offer turns out to be safe, and the company & source are legitimate.”
Now that you know it’s source (Both FB & Twitter), you should add that the offer originated on FB (or Twitter), and add the link to the FB or Twitter account (You can c&p right from my post) for others to see. Then there’s no doubt as to it’s legitimacy.

posting that review video by a malaysian girl on official kose site is questionable. and right above the video, the most. important part is misspelled. “SEKKSEI” not “SEKKISEI”
Good catch! I missed that. Scammers aren’t good at spelling or consistency. They often make errors just like the one you pointed out.

RE: Free Sample Bag Purity Organic Coffee
@tuskers said in Free Sample Bag Purity Organic Coffee:
So, you question this offer but found no actual proof this is fake
Correctomundo! I initially questioned its legitimacy, but found evidence to support the fact it is not fake, and is in fact a valid freebie. If anybody else expresses doubts, they can read what I found.
If your source from where you got this, doesn’t have a direct source from where they found it - it makes it look questionable. Especially because of the plethora of fake coffee sample offers. At first look, it appears as a hack, it’s when I checked social media links on the website, that I saw where the sample link came from.
If you don’t see it on the website elsewhere, that indicates a possible hack. So the next step is to see if the company uses social media, and was this an offer exclusive to their social media accounts. If found on social media, that legitimizes the post. The social media account from which the the offer was posted, belongs in the OP. In this case, both Twitter & FB had a link.
You could do what remick did on FW, once remick understood the issues, and learned what to do (He asked questions of me & mod staff, we helped him). Go back, edit your OP, and show the social media account where the offer originated (In this case you have both FB & Twitter, you only need to provide one). remick would go back & either state he couldn’t find a legitimate source, therefore the offer may be fake, or he or a responder to the thread, found the actual source, which was added to the Quick Summary or the OP. We don’t have a QS here, but mods can edit and add to OP upon request of a member, for legitimate reasons.
In this case, the offer turns out to be safe, and the company & source are legitimate.

RE: Free Samples Sekkisei Facial Mask, Lotion & Herbal Gel
Did you read the Whois info I posted? The scam site has nothing to do with the legitimate Japanese & USA websites that are owned & operated by Sekkisei’s corporate company, Kose. Scammers Brandjack legitimate companies all the time. The Whois doesn’t lie, and in this case, the Whois for SekkiseiSocial looks just like the other scam websites. Case closed.

RE: Free Current Freeosk Samples at Sam's Club Freeosk 🆓
Someone on FW pointed out that these samples are very, very, small. And stated it’s not worth the transportation cost to go just for a freebie. If you are already planning on shopping at Sam’s Club, or are in the area already for other business, then by all means check the Freeosk. These threads were never popular on FW for just that reason. You’d spend more time & gas then the ‘freebie’ was worth.

RE: Free Sample Bag Purity Organic Coffee
This offer does not show up as a link elsewhere on the website, just a separate trial offer. The source of this comes from FB & Twitter, the signup page is theirs, but at first look it seemed to be a hack, since no links to this page are on main website. So the next step is to see if the source comes from social media, as company’s offer stuff exclusively to those who use social media. They then create a separate sign-up page on their domain, and link to it from their social media page exclusively.
Here’s the FB link & message: https://www.facebook.com/mypuritycoffee/ “The greatest health benefit is right under your nose. Did you know that the #1 source of antioxidants in the western diet is coffee? At Purity we believe that switching to an organic, mold and mycotoxin free brew is the easiest change you can make to get healthy. Try a sample bag on us, and feel the difference: https://buff.ly/2ARHpwU”.
Twiiter link: https://twitter.com/purity_coffee "At Purity, we make sure that each cup has the most #antioxidants of any brand, for a #coffee that is truly beyond #organic. Sample a FREE 4oz bag: https://buff.ly/2ySCafQ " Note that Twitter says it’s a 4 oz bag.
There have been so many fake free coffee sample offers, and many have been either clones of legitimate company’s, Brandjacking/hijacking, or hacked websites, or fake websites made to look legitimate. It’s always a good idea to provide full links, especially if they are bit.ly or buff.ly or other shortcut links you find on social media. Scammers/spammers use shortcut links to disguise their URLs, for that reason FW banned use of bit.ly, et al. It’s also good to provide the original source for the freebie link (FB, Twitter, etc), if it’s not on main website, to establish the legitimacy of the offer. And in this case, to avoid being taken in by a fake free coffee offer from a cammer.

RE: Fake Freebies

From sekkiseisocial-dot-com
This was questioned on FW, somehow it missed being added to the sticky there, when it should have. Another case of the scammers at work, hoping to fool the unsuspecting. The truth is in the Domain Whois lookup.
-
RE: Free Samples Sekkisei Facial Mask, Lotion & Herbal Gel
I have seen this before, don’t recall anybody reporting ever getting anything from this, and the sign-up page just screams 'fake". After some sleuthing (Plus domain Whois courtesy of DomainDossier), I am absolutely convinced that this is a scam link set up to harvest info for sale on spam and junk mail lists. I think this was questioned when it was posted on FW, and for reasons I don’t know, it wasn’t added to the Fake Freebies sticky, when it should have been. Anywhoo… here’s my evidence as to why this is fake.
Repetitious (Send My Sample, Send My Sample, Send My Sample) signup buttons. Scammers like to highlight the free samples, they want you to click that button/ Legitimate websites don’t do this .
Where’s the Privacy Policy, Terms of Use/Service links?
Link back to main website is missing. Plus string of data on the bottom identifying company & copyright dates. You find this on the real Sekkisei Japan (Copyright © 1996-2017 KOSÉ Corporation. All rights reserved.) & USA websites (© 2016 KOSÉ America. All rights reserved.) .
The USA website has NO link anywhere to this ‘sample’, nothing, nada. zilch. The only samples offered, are when you make a purchase.
But here’s the final nail in the coffin, the domain lookup.
This is Sekkisei Japan

Here’s what you should see: the Japan & USA websites share the same Registrant & Admin info. They share servers, hosts - the fake website should share the same. Instead it uses sources commonly used by scam operations.
Avoid this like the plague, adding to the fake freebies sticky.

RE: SHOPRITE Black Friday 2 Day 11/24-25 Grocery Specials (KCups, Charmin/Bounty/Tide), Shrimp, etc)
@barrytuneup Haha, I did the 3 Mini-Wheats for the $3 of a gal of milk, and used KFR Q’s. Also had clipped a SR e-coupon for $1 off on 3 Kellogg’s cereals.
Bought the Twinings tea, saved over $6 off regular price.
