Actually you can invest up to $10,000 a year in series I bonds and not just $10. I bought $10,000 worth in early November and in January I am planning to get $10,000 more.

You might look into the Air B&B equivalent of car rentals (people who rent their cars to others instead of their residences). I don’t know the names of any of these sites but it may be worth searching for reviews to see if it’s a viable option/saves a lot of money.

Thanks. I did look at this option and saw just enough of horror stories of cars that die or fail in some way to keep me from pursuing. I have a certain level of faith that rental car companies maintain the vehicles in drivable condition so as to not have to give refunds.

I don’t think “glad” is the correct description. If you purchased in April, you would have 6 months of 7.x% and 6 months of 9.x%. Now, you don’t know what happens after 6 months of 9.x%.

Right, that’s correct. Say you bought the 7.x bond in late 2021, you’d earn six months from your month date (say 1/1/22) of 7+%, then on 7/1/22 it goes up to 9.x% To be honest I don’t see inflation coming down much anytime in the next year. Oil prices will be even higher this summer than recently with demand and likely Russian boycott from Europe, supply chain issues from China and elsewhere. Labor costs going up as people demand more money for wages to keep up w/inflation. It’s a bad spiral when it gets like this.

Consider that a money market acct is paying .5% right now. Anything above 4% in these bonds is pretty darn good not to mention the interest hit is deferred until you actually redeem them.

Even if you cash out at the end of the first 12 months and forego three months of interest, you’re still way ahead of a savings/mma or CD. I bought in Novenber 2021, and then again in April 2022, So did my wife. Took the money out of a savings account paying around 0.5%. Would be great if we could buy more than $10K per person per year. Not getting a tax refund, so can’t use that to buy a $5K paper iBond on top of the $10K bonds.

@phat200 You’re going to pay for email hosting anywhere from about $1 per user per month on up to $6 per user per month, or even more. If your web host includes email and the total price is lower, then just don’t use the web hosting.

Google Workspace is $6 per user per month and you can bring your own domain name.

@mtnagel I use messages.google.com as well, but the phone app gives you access to files. I have a Samsung phone and use the DEX app to control the phone from the computer and transfer files.

I found the app and I’m trying to figure out if I have any use for it. Not sure I see any reason to make a call on my computer if I have my phone. And it looks like you have to connect you phone to your computer, right? I some times want to transfer files from my phone to my computer, but I just send to google drive. What do you use it for?

I never make calls on my computer. I like being able to control the phone from the computer and it’s very easy to transfer files. I initially connected the phone by cable to get the app going, but only the first time. Now I just have to put both computers on the same network. My PC is plugged into a wireless router and the phone is on the same wireless network and they communicate very nicely.

Sounds like something I could use but never saw this warning before. I guess it’s just freaking out because it’s an “unknown publisher”.

Don’t sweat it too much. If you don’t want to download it, other free alternatives work just as well and are not restricted from getting updates like this offer is.

I’d be curious to know what alternatives work just as well (given you didn’t name a single one). That was never my experience, many either had limits or trial periods and/or a very user unfriendly/cumbersome interface.

It all depends on what you want to download. Will not successfully download DRM protected files, but neither will VCap.

I’ve used the ANVSoft tools for years and they have worked well.

@my4mainecoons Nope. 8GB should be OK. You can always add it later if you need it. If you are doing a scratch Win 11 install and don’t have the Dell utilities, 8 GB will be fine. Even with the Dell utility, most people are OK. If you start doing video editing or anything with creating and editing large files, you will likely need the extra RAM.
